UP FOR AUCTION.....

MY 1998 TDI JETTA.  IT IS A 5 SPEED WITH A GOOD CLUTCH AND THE CAR HAS A SUNROOF.

THIS CAR RUNS AND DRIVES, BUT HAS SOME ISSUES.  THE WAY YOU SEE IT IS THE WAY I GOT IT.

THE CAR RUNS, AND SOUNDS GOOD.  ENGINE IS STRONG, BUT I THINK IT IS LEAKING SOME BOOST FROM THE PIPING OR INTERCOOLER AT FULL BOOST LEVELS.  IT NEEDS FRONT BRAKES AND STRUTS.  SOMEONE SWAPPED THE GAGE CLUSTER, SO THE MILEAGE IS INCORRECT ON THE ODOMETER.  IT ALSO HAS TREK SEATS SWAPPED IN IT.  IT HAS A WORKING SUNROOF.  NO POWER WINDOWS.

THE GOOD---

RUNS GOOD, GOOD CLUTCH AND 5 SPEED

STILL PA  INSPECTED  TILL APRIL

THREE NEW TIRES ON IT

TREK RECAROS IN IT

SUNROOF WORKS FINE

THE BAD---

DRIVERSIDE FRONT BRAKE IS GRINDING

SCRATCHES ON IT, PAINT NOT PERFECT

DENT IN PS REAR DOOR

SOME RUST AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FENDERS

A/C NOT WORKING

STRUTS ARE CLUNKY

I AM ADVERTISING THIS CAR AS BEST I CAN.  I INVITE YOU TO COME LOOK AT IT AND EMAIL ME ANY QUESTIONS ON IT.   IT COULD BE FIXED, OR USED FOR PARTS, POSSIBLY A PROJECT.  AS IS, WHERE IS.  IT SHOULD BE TRAILERED UNTIL THE BRAKES ARE FIXED.  ITS UP TO YOU.

CHECK THE PHOTOS.

VW going turbo-only in 3 to 4 years

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

This really was a matter of when, rather than if. Volkswagen will apparently be the first manufacturer to phase out naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbocharging its full slate. VW is kind of responsible for ushering in this push towards small-displacement, turbocharged engines that's taken the industry by storm. When it dropped its direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo in the 2005 GTI it demonstrated that strapping an iron long to an engine can enhance the powertrain as a whole. VW made fuel economy gains, while also giving a linear, non-laggy turbo experience that it has replicated, model-after-model, to this day.
Speaking with The Detroit News, Volkswagen's executive Vice President of Group Quality, Marc Trahan, told the paper that, "We only have one normally aspirated gas engine, and when we go to the next generation vehicle that it's in, it will be replaced. So three, four years maximum."
Really, it's hard to get teary-eyed about either of these engines going away. VW has access to smaller powerplants that could easily match the performance of the 2.5 five-cylinder and the 3.6 V6, while gobbling up less fuel and providing a better driving experience. What we are sad about is that a similar statement about the extinction of NA engines came from the Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Ford, Joe Bakaj. We'd certainly get teary-eyed over a world without Ford's excellent 5.0-liter V8.

VW confirms development of 10-speed dual clutch, 134-hp/liter diesel

Fri, 26 Apr 2013

Each year, the Vienna International Motor Symposium showcases some of the up-and-coming technologies automakers are engineering for the use in passenger cars, and Volkswagen AG CEO Martin Winterkorn revealed some big developments VW is working on for its future products. Winterkorn discussed a multi-faceted approach that VW is looking to reduce its fleet fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
Some of the bigger news he discussed included a "high-performance" diesel engine that will produce 134 horsepower per liter and a 10-speed DSG automatic transmission. While no specific applications were mentioned, we can only hope this is for the Audi R4 we keep hearing about.
Another topic he touched on that caused us to perk up our ears was had to do with VW's plug-in hybrid technology. While we know the PHEV versions of the Audi A3 and Porsche Panamera are on the way, Winterkorn also said that these two models will be followed up by Golf, Passat, Audi A6 and Porsche Cayenne plug-in models. Scroll down for a press release highlighting the automaker's future fuel-saving initiatives.

Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.
