1989 Vw Jetta Mark 2 Gli 16v on 2040-cars

Year:1989 Mileage:201032
Location:

1989 VW Jetta 16v with just over 200,000 miles. Car is in super nice condition,  been in California it`s whole life until recently, no rust and very recent nice paint job. This
Jetta was manufactured in Germany (see VIN tag photo).   Recaro seats are in super condition too as is the overall interior, dash has only 2 small cracks (see photos). Car has
new headliner, new tires (General Altimax HP directional tread), alignment, muffler,  brakes (new rotors/pads in front and new pads in rear). I installed 2 rebuilt control units
very recently (ECU and Knock sensor). I paid $400.00 ea from AutoECM. I still have both of  the original cores.  I have all 4 wheel centers too.

I put on a cylinder head from a Jetta that only had 90k on it. This was done about 3 1/2  years ago and car has been driven maybe 30k since. I was going to put
in lifters when I came across the head and did this instead. I did a recent compression and all cyls right at 200psi. Motor does not burn one drop of oil
and runs very strong. No lifter noise at all too. I still have the original head with the cams which is in great shape, flat as a pancake, just needs the lifters.

Car also has Bilstein shocks, all service work done by me. I have been a German car tech for over 25 years, have most receipts. I just recently
moved to Oregon and decided not to do any more wrenching. I don`t want to sell the car, best car I have ever had. They don`t make VW`s like this anymore. I
don`t have a garage now and it kills me to keep it outside so it`s best to have someone who can garage it and have it stay inside.  I think someone who like to
tinker, has some VW mechanical experience or knows a good VW mechanic will benefit most from owning this car.

Other things done are Kingsborne plug wires (7 mos ago), high rated nice wires made in the US. Recent ignition switch, sunroof seal, door seals, trunk seal. Clutch was done about
40k ago, no chatter, I am very easy on it. Tune up about 5k ago, including spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter. I know there is more, can`t think at the moment.

Timing belt is due in a about 6 months or so. AC is nice and cold, heater is a bit marginal at the moment, only a problem when below 30 outside.  The idle is a little rough
at times and is a little cold blooded.  I usually give it a few minutes of warm up before taking off when cold.  I think either the idle control valve might be the
issue. Also, it wouldn`t be a bad idea to get a timing light (mine is broken) and make sure it is right on the money and have the fuel mixture checked to make sure it
is right where it should be also.

Last thing.  The odo as of the last couple of years doesn`t always advance.  The true mileage is probably about 10k or so more than indicated.  The speedo has always
worked and still does.  The odo seams to function about 30% of the time. Oh, recent motor mounts, lower ball joints and battery.

Any more questions, just ask.

Automakers score 8 out of top 20 most-watched ads on YouTube [w/videos]

Fri, 14 Dec 2012

Who would have ever thought there'd be a day where people are able to skip television commercials only to go to websites to watch them later? Such is the joy of a DVR and YouTube. AdWeek tabulated the 20 most-watched ads on YouTube, and found that nine were car-related including eight coming from automakers.
Volkswagen continued its Star Wars theme with two ads in the top 20, including the highest-ranking car commercial The Bark Side spot at number three with almost 18 million views, which doesn't even have a single car in it. Some of our favorites are from Chrysler with Clint Eastwood in It's Halftime in America and House Arrest with Charlie Sheen for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Chevrolet, Honda, Audi and Toyota were the other automakers in the top 20, but we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention one of the coolest ads on the list, the Hot Wheels corkscrew jump.
Of all the car videos, only the Fiat ad wasn't played during a Super Bowl. Check out all eight videos - in order - after the jump. Nike took the top spot with its My Time is Now ad that has been seen online more than 20 million times with Pepsi's Uncle Drew posted up in the runner-up; some of the other videos include four Old Spice commercials and an ad in which Snoop Dogg is pedaling Hot Pockets.

VW chair says component cost decrease keeps him confident of EV success

Tue, Mar 25 2014

Volkswagen AG is in the middle of implementing a comprehensive electric vehicle strategy, one that we've been documenting for a long time. The Group stands ready to offer dozens of plug-in vehicles in the coming years if it feels there is sufficient demand and believes that selling a million EVs in Germany by 2020 is reasonable. That would be a solid number, but remember that VW sold over 5,923,000 passenger cars around the world last year, and the group as a whole sold over 9.7 million. At the company's annual Media Conference and Investor Conference in Berlin recently, the chairman of the board of VW AG - surrounded by some decidedly non-green examples of the VW Group's vehicles (some absurd new Bugatti, for example) - took some time to put the company's EV plans into focus. The upshot is that Dr. Martin Winterkorn is still guiding his electromobility ship into new waters, saying that "many more [plug-in] models will follow." Winterkorn said there are three main reasons he is confident in the ability of VW (and Audi and Porsche, at the very least) to push EV sales upward. Batteries are getting better, he said, and if the ranges can be extended, then customers are happy. But the real secret lies in reducing component costs. He said (as translated): It is important to look at the cost of the components: the battery technology, the electric motor and the electric components. Whenever you go into volume production, you of course have economies of scale. In two to three years' time, if we are able to achieve the goals we are setting for ourselves with cost and reach sufficient volume, I do believe that we can achieve two to three percent [market share] within VW Group. So, hitting a million EVs by 2020 is reachable. With the e-Golf and the e-Up off to excellent sales starts, we're willing to be confident as well.

Volkswagen E-Co-Motion Concept brings electric mobility to the commercial set

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

Volkswagen sees a future where the bulk of the world's freight is moved into city centers by train, then offloaded onto a fleet of smaller, light-duty commercial vehicles for final delivery. Those vehicles could wind up looking something like the company's E-Co-Motion Concept that debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The EV features a modular underfloor drive unit comprised of a battery, motor and gearbox that can be paired with any number of cab and body configurations to suit a buyer's needs, from a refrigerated box to a standard flat bed.
The E-Co-Motion Concept features a rear-mounted electric motor with 113 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. A standard 20 kWh battery pack provides a driving range of up to 62 miles, while 30 kWh and 40 kWh packs could deliver 93 and 124 miles of travel, respectively. Check out the press release below for more information.
