2012 Volkswagen Golf R, APR Tuned stage 2+

You have to be a VW enthusiast to appreciate this car.  This could be the most fun car to drive at an affordable price. I purchased this car new and drove it like a sweet old lady until I had 1,000 miles on the clock, then the upgrades started. First I had it tuned to APR stage I and unleashed the horses which took the HP from 250 to 300. Unfortunately for my wallet this only gave me a thirst for more. So a new APR turbo back exhaust, a high pressure fuel pump, a VWR cold air intake and a ARP re-flash to stage II+ boosted this screaming howling hatchback to a peak horsepower of 362hp and 370 ft-lbs of torque. The stock clutch that linked this much power to the 6 speed manual transmission could not take the extra hp without slipping and required a further upgrade to the South Bend  DXD KFSI HD OFE endurance clutch and flywheel package. The stock wheels also whilst adequate did not quite look the part with the steel grey paint job so VWR 18” X 8” ET45 gunmetal grey wheels were also required to complete the package. The total selling price of this car new without taxes and fees was $35,817 in April 2012. In addition the total cost for the upgrades: $8,000 installed, for a total investment of $43,817.

This car is now offered for sale complete with the stock parts (including the stock aluminium wheels if you need them for winter tires) or if a buyer wants I will keep all these parts for sale separately and reduce the final sale price of the car by $3,000.

If you are still reading you are probably aware of the other specifications for the R as it only comes fully loaded, however to reassure you let me give you the additional details anyway; This one is a 2 door hatchback, 4 wheel drive with 6 speed manual transmission. Sun roof, leather R seats and metal finish pedals. I bought this car new in May 2012. It is in immaculate condition. This car has never been in an accident or had any kind of body repair. I have only used the car on the road; it has never been on a track or raced in anyway. All the upgrades were carried out by an APR dealer here in Atlanta, I have the invoices and the APR certificate. All maintenance has been carried out on time. All records and documents in hand.  Non-smoker, no pets or kids have ever been in this car.  Just under 12,000 miles on the clock. Full Warranty and Carefree maintenance package until May 2015 or 36,000 miles. Power train warranty until May 2017 or 60,000 miles. Premium 8 RCD 510 sound with satellite radio (not subscribed) and media/i phone/i touch connectivity but you don’t need i tunes music, just listen to the car.  Mobile phone package with blue tooth.  I have both sets of keys. Don’t even ask about the MPG because if you care you don’t want this car, but it’s better than a Corvette or a Mustang. Clear title in hand. This is a private sale.

Professional Inspection is welcome. Buyer is responsible for collection.

Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe Concept is an aspirational Jetta

Mon, 21 Apr 2014

Meet the Volkswagen baby CC. Okay, that's not really it's name (VW calls it the New Midsize Coupe Concept), but this sleek, four-door coupe draws more than a little inspiration from the CC while riding on VW's MQB platform.
It's a looker, we think, and is an eye-pleasing departure from the bland styling of the current Jetta. The sleeker front end is complemented by a wider body overall (it's wider than a Passat), while the more sporting roofline and the sharp rear fascia gives the New Midsize Coupe a decidedly sporting character. LED head- and taillights add a bit more personality to this already stylish design.
Thanks to its 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder, it should get along rather sportingly, as well. The run to 62 miles per hour takes just 6.5 seconds thanks to the 217 horsepower on offer. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is also fitted, and contributes to an estimated 37 miles per gallon.

Volkswagen's latest ad is not subtle | Autoblog Podcast #509

Fri, Mar 24 2017

On this week's podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman are joined by special guest James Riswick, who has been driving a lot of new cars lately. All of them are discussed, plus a few more from Mike and David, and Mike rants a bit about a new VW Atlas commercial. The episode wraps up with the traditional doling out of Spend My Money buying advice, during which David briefly goes out into left field. (He's back now, don't worry.) The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) Autoweek dubs GMC Canyon, VW GTI its 2015 'Best of the Best'

Wed, Dec 17 2014

For kids around the globe, tis the season for Santa, reindeer and presents. For the automotive industry, the last quarter of each year is reserved for awards, whether they come from Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Automobile, or yes, Autoblog. The latest to get released comes from our friends at Autoweek. The magazine has echoed other outlets, naming a Volkswagen hatchback and a small pickup from General Motors as its Best of the Best. Unlike Motor Trend, which handed out its golden calipers to the Chevrolet Colorado and Volkswagen Golf range, Autoweek doled out its awards to the Colorado's twin, the GMC Canyon, while singling out the hottest version of the Golf, the GTI. "This is the best hot-hatch on the American market – and it may be the best car you can buy for less than $30K," one AW staffer said in the publication's article on the feature. Other staffers praised the absolute value provided by the GTI and the overall fun factor. The Canyon, meanwhile, was saluted for being "the perfect size," not to mention its excellent build quality, feature-rich cabin and overall practicality. "It's truly a truck in the most honest sense of the word," Autoweek wrote of the Canyon. Scroll down for the full press release on the announcement from Autoweek, which includes comments from both Volkswagen and GMC. And then head over and read AW's full feature on the awards. Autoweek names Best of the Best/Car and Truck for 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI and GMC Canyon signal a strong year for design, performance and value DETROIT, Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Autoweek named the Volkswagen Golf GTI as its Best of the Best/Car for 2015, beating a group of finalists that includes the Alfa Romeo 4C, Ford Mustang and Mercedes-Benz C-class; and the GMC Canyon as its Best of the Best/Truck for 2015, besting the likes of the Chevrolet Colorado, Lincoln MKC and Porsche Macan. Autoweek evaluates every new or significantly updated model throughout the year and begins to identify the standouts. Performance, economy, fit and finish, design, value, significance to the auto industry and personal taste all combine to define the Best of the Best. Four cars and four trucks make the grade, and Autoweek editors put them through rigorous road-handling tests at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. This is where a vehicle transcends the numbers and shows if design, performance and pure driving passion meld into an Autoweek Best of the Best pick.
