I've decided to list my 2009 GTI for sale, its an awesome little car, but I've discovered I really don't like making a car payment, and think I'm going to go back to an older BMW. I believe I am the third owner. The first owner leased the car, and the second bought it for his daughter who drove it for a couple years before shipping off to college.

The car is in great shape mechanically and cosmetically, with 62,xxx miles on it. The mileage will go up slightly as I'm still commuting ~30 miles/day in it. Its United Gray over the Plaid cloth, optioned with the DSG, Sunroof, Heated Seats, 18" Huff Wheels, and Premium sound. The only options it doesn't have are Leather and Navigation. The 2009 cars are a bit of an oddball, with the MKV body and interior, but the updated TSI motor currently sold in the MKVIs. The biggest issue cosmetic issue is 2 of the wheels have somewhat significant curbing.

Recent Maintenance:
-58,xxx miles
--New Tires/Alignment
--New Rear Pads/Rotors (fronts are still have 80%+)
--Seafoam Treatment in crank, fuel and intake
--Oil Change w/Factory Oil and Filter, ECS Magnetic Drain Plug
--New Air Filter
--New Cabin Air Filter
--New Spark Plugs

The DSG Mechatronics unit was recalled at 14k miles and was replaced at a VW dealership. They gave it a transferrable, extended warranty until 2019 or 100k miles, so you don't have to worry about one of the biggest concerns with buying a DSG car. Interestingly enough the 3rd taillight has the same extended warranty, not sure why they needed to recall that...

The car also received a full paint correction around 58k. The factory iPod Dock fried itself a couple weeks after I bought the car, so I replaced it with a simple Grom Audio unit.

It will also come with a set of Monster mats that have been used for less than 1000 miles, a heavy duty cargo liner, a set of paddle shifter extenders that didn't work for me and my long fingers, and a vial of factory touch up paint.

The car is completely 100% stock, save for a few software mods using VCDS (factory Volkswagen Diagnostic Software). I turned on the Emergency Flasher function that flashes the hazards when you activate the ABS, the remote windows down/up feature, and made a long press of the trunk button release the hatch.

In the interest of full disclosure, the car currently has a CEL with the dreaded code P2015 which is due to the electronically controlled flap in the intake manifold. The car is not displaying any of the symptoms of the flap actually malfunctioning (lower fuel economy, reduce performance, rough cold idle), its just the CEL currently.

I have the replacement part on order and will be installing it this week, however, if someone would like to install it themselves, we can work that into our price. With the manifold replaced, my asking price is $15,500 OBO. This is an extremely nice, well optioned, completely stock and unmolested, well maintained example of a GTI.

Volkswagen hatches hotter GTI in Geneva

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

The all-new seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf hasn't even launched here in the United States, but over in Geneva, we're already getting our first glimpse at the hotter GTI hatchback. The fancy new Mk VII Golf is already off to a healthy start with positive reviews in Europe, and we have no doubt that this next GTI will work hard to regain its title as king of the hot hatches.
The big news for this generation of GTI is that for the first time ever, Volkswagen is actually offering two different power grades for the model, both relying on the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four. Standard cars pack 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, but an optional performance pack ups the horsepower number to 230. Hitting 60 miles per hour takes 6.5 seconds (6.4 with the performance pack) and top speed is quoted at 153 mph (or 155 with the performance kit). Volkswagen will continue to offer the GTI with both six-speed manual and dual-clutch transmissions.
On the visual front, the sub-3,000-pound GTI adds the usual bit of hot hatch aggression over the standard Golf, and those changes carry over to the interior with a flat-bottomed wheel and, of course, plaid seats. She's certainly a looker, and while some of us do find the new Golf's design to be a bit staid and evolutionary, the enhancements for the GTI indeed tug on our enthusiast heart strings.

The best Super Bowl car commercials from the last 5 years

Wed, Jan 28 2015

If you've been dipping into the Autoblog feed over the past days and weeks, you wouldn't even have to be a sports fan to know the Super Bowl is coming up. Automakers have been teasing their spots for the big game, dropping them days early, fully-formed onto the Internet and otherwise trying to amp up the multi-million-dollar outlays that they've made for air time on the biggest advertising day of the year. And, we're into it. The lead up to the Super Bowl is almost akin to a mini auto show around these parts; with automakers being amongst the most prolific advertisers on these special Sundays. The crop of ads from 2015 looks as strong as ever, but we thought we'd take a quick look back at some of our favorite spots from the last five years. Take a look at our picks – created from a very informal polling of Autoblog editors and presented in no particular order – and then tell us about your recent faves, in Comments. Chrysler, Imported From Detroit Chrysler, Eminem and a lingering pan shot of "The Fist" – it doesn't get much more Motown than 2011's Imported From Detroit. With the weight of our staffers hailing from in and around The D, it's no wonder that our memories still favor this epic Super Bowl commercial (even though the car it was shilling was crap). Imported really set the tone for later Chrysler ads, too, repeated the formula: celebrity endorsement + dramatic copy + dash of jingoism = pulled car-guy heartstrings. Mercedes-Benz, Soul teaser with Kate Upton One of our favorite Super Bowl commercials (and yours, based on the insane number of views you logged) didn't even technically air during the game. Mercedes-Benz teased its eventual spot Soul with 90-seconds worth of Kate Upton threatening to do her best Joy Harmon impression. (Teaser indeed.) It doesn't win points for cleverness, use of music, acting, or any compelling carness, but it proved that Mercedes' advertisers knew how to make a splash in the Internet Age. And, hey, it's still classier than every GoDaddy commercial. Kia, A Dream Car. For Real Life Like the Mercedes video above, the initial draw here is a pretty lady; in this case the always stunning Adriana Lima. But this Kia commercial really delivers the extra effort we expect while scarfing crabby snacks and homemades, too. First of all, Motley Crue. Second, a cowboy on a bucking rhino. Enjoy yet again.

VW makes $23K on every Porsche sold, more than Bentley or Lamborghini

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

It's a good time to be in the luxury car business. In Volkswagen Group's financial report for the 2013 fiscal year, it is revealed that that Porsche enjoyed an operating margin of 18 percent. That means the Stuttgart brand made on average about $23,200 per car sold, according to BusinessWeek. Bentley wasn't far behind, and Audi (which was combined with Lamborghini) posted a 10.1 percent margin. This compares to only around 2.9 percent for the Volkswagen brand.
"Luxury brands are on fire," said Dave Sullivan, an industry analyst at AutoPacific. He said that the average profit margin is between six and eight percent. Brands like Porsche and Bentley have the benefit of competing in rarefied markets. Buyers looking at one their vehicles have fewer models to shop against and don't care as much about price. They can also charge more for options, which further boosts income, according to BusinessWeek.
In a way, we should be more impressed by the continued success from Audi. Its models generally have direct competitors in every segment from the other premium automakers. Plus, their buyers aren't the captains of industry who are shopping for a Bentley. Still, the Four Rings is leading rivals in sales so far this year.
