2003 Volkswagen Golf Gti 1.8l 5-speed on 2040-cars
Dearborn, Michigan, United States
I HAVE DRIVEN THIS CAR PERSONALLY SINCE 2004. I PURCHASED IT IN OHIO WITH 10,000 MILES ON IT. I'M A 61 YEAR OLD PHYSICIAN AND THE CAR SERVED SEVERAL PURPOSES. IT GETS OVER 25 MPG, ITS NOT A HIGH THEFT CAR(BIG ADVANTAGE IN DETROIT) AND ITS AS MUCH FUN TO DRIVE AS ANY HIGH DOLLAR SPORTS CAR I'VE EVER OWNED. PLUS, AND ADDED ADVANTAGE IS I FIT IN THE CAR COMFORTABLY AT 6'7', 265. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN HARD, BUT WELL MAINTAINED WITH ALL OF THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND MOBIL ONE CHANGES AT 3K. THE CAR HANDLES GREAT IN THE SNOW WITH THE SNOW TIRES THAT ARE INCLUDED. I WOULD DRIVE THE CAR TODAY TO CALIFORNIA WITH NO WORRY. THE ONLY REASON THAT I'M SELLING IS MY WIFE BOUGHT ME A NEW GTI. THE BAD POINTS ARE SOME WEAR ON THE BOLSTER OF THE DRIVERS SEAT. I BOUGHT NEW FOAM AND WAS PLANNING TO REPAIR THAT. IT HAS THE CHECK ENGINE AND AIR BAG LIGHTS ON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FROM ONE OF THE O2 SENSORS. I HAD ONE REPLACED,,,,AND IT WAS THE WRONG ONE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO LEAVE IT, ALONG WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT WHICH THEY SAY IS A GIVEN TO HAPPEN WITH THESE CARS. THE ONLY OTHER PROBLEM IS A DENT ON THE RIGHT ROCKER FROM ME TURNING INTO A SIGN SUPPORT IN A BANK PARKING LOT COVERED BY SNOW. TIRES ARE MICHELIN MXM4s, SNOW TIRES ARE FIRESTONE.

Volkswagen shows off performance-ish Passat concept
Mon, 14 Jan 2013As part of its 2013 Detroit Auto Show debut package, Volkswagen has rolled out a sportier version of the Passat sedan, though it's strictly conceptual for now. A small dose of go-fast visuals have been added to the handsome Volkswagen, including 19-inch wheels, carbon-capped mirrors, an advanced front lighting system, LED taillamps and dual exhaust. Some carbon bits and upgraded leather are found inside the cabin, as well.
But the real performance chops come in the form of a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 250 horsepower to the Passat's front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. That's a good boost in power over the 170 hp of the base 2.5-liter inline-five, but not quite as potent as the 3.6-liter VR6. A lowered sport suspension and revised electronic steering are also on hand, making things slightly more involving out on the road... we assume.
It's not quite the performance concept we were hoping for, but a more enthusiastic Passat isn't necessarily a bad thing. Scroll down for the press release.
Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva
Thu, 21 Feb 2013After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
J.D. Power customer survey of dealers counts Cadillac, Buick as big winners
Mon, 14 Apr 2014Cadillac and Buick have taken the trophies in J.D. Power's latest Customer Service Index Study examining satisfaction with dealer service. Surveying more than 90,000 owners and lessees of 2009-2013 model-year cars, the study found that those with pre-paid maintenance packages were ten percent more likely to buy their next car from the same brand.
Dealer satisfaction scores have improved overall, Cadillac nabbed the luxury segment ahead of Audi and Lexus, taking the crown that Lexus held last year. Buick keeps the mass-market dealer satisfaction win in the family, finishing ahead of Volkswagen and last year's winner GMC. The study also found that service department use of tablets increased customer satisfaction, as did "best practices" like "providing helpful advice." Who knew?
You can find details on those and more findings in the press release below.
