Hi you are looking at a completely stock 2002 Silver Volkswagen GTI 1.8L Turbo 5 speed. Here is the most honest I can be about this vehicle, I manage a valet company in South Beach and an employee of our clients was transferred to Los Angeles.
He left his GTI in our garage planning to find a place and have the vehicle shipped out there. We were storing the car for free as a courtesy but after more than a month of having the vehicle I reached out to him to let him know the car would need to be removed soon and he offered me the car for a price I could not refuse and before I invest in the car and keep it for myself I will see if I can make a few bucks for someone who really enjoys these cars. Otherwise it gets much better MPG than my truck. As you will see in the pictures the car has its flaws and I will do my best to describe them I am an ex mechanic and I have test driven the car and had it looked at by a local private shop here in South Beach.
We shall start with the good, under 80,000 miles and only 1 owner. The clutch engages before the pedal is halfway out, makes no noise and feels very good. The brakes have very healthy pads all the way around and the brake pedal feels very good. The gear box makes no noise when shifting in to any of the gears. The motor blows no smoke on start up and as the back bumper is completely lacking of any exhaust residue I am inclined to believe the motor blows no smoke. The turbo sounds good and is noticeably doing its job when accelerating. The oil is crystal clear and the coolant is the proper orange/pinkish color that it should be. The suspension feels as it should when driving around town on smooth and pothole roads. (The front right does make a louder sound then I think it should when going over a speed bump above 5mph but as it drives fine and I cant say its a problem) The steering feels good and tracks straight. The exhaust is quiet and sounds as it should. I have had the car parked in the same spot for about a week (while waiting for title) and there is no drippings on the pavement. All of the gauges work. The power windows, locks and sunroof all operate as they should.
Here are the issues I have found and I have provided pictures to support.
Needs 1 tire on the front left, the rest are all healthy and I would say are no less than half tread.
The drivers side view mirror is cracked
The A/C system needs a new evaporator core and will not blow cold with out one
The CD player plays CD's but I can not get it to do anything else
The airbag light is on. (the mechanic forgot to check that even though I specifically asked him)
The rear hatch needs new support struts for it to hold itself open
All of the interior panels have cloth inserts from the factory and each panels glue has failed or began to fail causing the material to droop or begin to remove itself
The headliner has been victim to a repair by stapler and the sunroof shade/cover is present and functional but all of its cloth covering is gone
The tint on the rear windows was not professionally installed and shows a repetitive flaw however not bad enough to obstruct view.
There are multiple door dings and what appears to be one door crease on the passenger side however the drivers side seems almost flawless
The front and rear bumpers have had minor contact with multiple items removing paint but not actually damaging bumper cover
The car could use a complete detail the floor mats are present inside a garbage back in the trunk and I haven't opened the bag and find out why yet :)
Window switch for drivers side window missing but still operable
Console cover in place but not attached (stays in place but when you open console the entire cover comes up)
Driver side view mirror is cracked
both side view mirrors have paint missing from outer corners
Passenger side door has some paint missing from protective door molding and a decent foot long scrtach
Door dings present on passenger side door and fender
Door crease on passenger side quarter panel
Hood has indentation to the left side of center as if someone sat on it (hard to see but its there)
If I think of anything else I will update and list it for all to see. I will be as flexible as possible to help with any shipping arrangements the winning bidder makes. If you are local and would like to see the car you are more than welcome after reaching me by email. Car is currently not registered or insured so test drives will be have to be kept short. I want to share any and all things about the car that could be seen as a negative as I have nothing to hide and want to represent the car as I see it. If you would like more photos of any part of the car that I am able to photograph please make an email request and I will email them to you. As typical the car is for sale locally and could be sold at anytime therefore ending the auction early, there are no warranties or guarantees of any kind and this is an as-is sale.
I previously had this listed as a 2 owner however I read the issue dates of the title and assumed it had 2 owners. It went from the finance company to the owner after he paid it off and therefore it is a 1 owner car. My apologies I did not intend to be misleading, I just need to learn how to read a title properly.
$2,000 is my reserve price.

Weekly Recap: Volkswagen moves forward under Muller
Sat, Sep 26 2015Most stunning was the speed of it all. On the morning of September 18, Volkswagen AG stood atop the automotive world. It was profitable and sold more cars than Toyota and General Motors, its two main rivals for global supremacy. By nightfall, the company would be embroiled in scandal. Revelations the German auto giant cheated on diesel emissions testing in the United States reverberated from Washington to Wolfsburg, Germany. What started out as a problem with 482,000 VWs and Audis in the US exploded into an international scandal. Millions of vehicles have the rigged software, meaning VW broke environmental rules as its cars spewed pollutants all over the world. The fallout began immediately. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn – one of the most respected and capable executives in the business – apologized on Sunday and Tuesday. On Wednesday he resigned. As the week progressed, the company's stock took a beating and credit agencies threatened to drop their ratings. VW dealers and owners said they felt betrayed. The automaker hired a law firm that defended BP after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The EPA is already extending its testing procedures to look for "defeat devices" like the ones used by Volkswagen. On Friday the company announced a major restructuring. Matthias Muller, Porsche's chief for the last five years, took over as CEO of Volkswagen and is charged with picking up the pieces of a shattered company facing regulatory action and lawsuits. With GM, Toyota, and Takata scandals still fresh, Volkswagen will likely experience unprecedented levels of scrutiny. Additionally, VW's markets in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be combined into a North American region under the leadership of former Skoda boss Winfried Vahland, though US chief executive Michael Horn will stay on. The company is also realigning its brands by specialty and streamlining its board. Firings, government action, restructurings, and international outrage – things that usually build up over months or years – all occurred in about a week. With dizzying speed, Volkswagen's future has changed dramatically. It all happened, it's still happening, so fast. VW joins Daimler's protest of new A/C refrigerant as EU deadline for compliance passes
Sun, 06 Jan 2013The case of Dupont and Honeywell's refrigerant R-1234yf is doing the exact opposite of keeping things cool. The two chemical companies have spent years and hundreds of millions of dollars developing R-1234yf to replace R-134a, the new refrigerant shown to be 99.7-percent kinder to the environment than the one it is meant to succeed. Part of that development has been years of testing by governments, outside safety agencies and automakers to approve the chemical for use in cars. It passed the protocols necessary for the European Union to declare that new and significantly revised cars from 2013 onward needed to use R-1234yf, and mandated that every car as of 2017 must use it.
Enter Daimler AG. The automaker created a head-on collision test with a B-Class at their Sindelfingen test track that would lead to the pressurized refrigerant being sprayed on the engine. The result in 20 out of 20 test was that the refrigerant burst into flames as soon as it hit the hot engine, while Daimler says that R-134a does not catch fire in the same test. Another unexpected result of the R-1234yf test was the release of hydrogen flouride, a chemical far more deadly to humans than hydrogen cyanide, emitted in such amounts that it that turned the windshield white as it began to eat into the glass.
Said a Daimler engineer in a Reuters piece, "It was scarcely believable. The most complicated lab tests conducted using the most sensitive measuring instruments around found nothing and all we do is drive a car around a couple of times, open a tiny hole in the refrigerant line and the next thing you know the car is on fire." So Daimler said it wouldn't use the refrigerant, and it recalled the cars it had already shipped with R-1234yf.
Automakers want to stop the EPA's fuel economy rules change, and why that's a shortsighted move
Tue, Dec 6 2016With a Trump Administration looming, the EPA moved quickly after the election to propose finalizing future fuel economy rules last week. The auto industry doesn't like that (surprise), and has started making moves to stop the EPA. Ford CEO Mark Fields said he wanted to lobby Trump to lower the standards, and now the Auto Alliance, a manufacturer group, is saying it will join the fight against cleaner cars. The Alliance represents 12 automakers: BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, GM, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Toyota, VW, and Volvo. Gloria Bergquist, a spokesperson for the Alliance, told Automotive News that the "EPA's sudden and controversial move to propose auto regulations eight months early - even after Congress warned agencies about taking such steps while political appointees were packing their bags - calls out for congressional action to pause this rulemaking until a thoughtful policy review can occur." The EPA was going to consider public comments through April 2017, but then said it would move the deadline to the end of December. That means that it can finalize the rules before President Obama leaves office. The director of public affairs for the Consumer Federation of America, Jack Gillis, said on a conference call with reporters last week when the EPA originally announced its decision that it is unlikely that President Trump will be able to roll back these changes. Gillis also said on the same call that any attempt by the automakers to prevent these changes would be history repeating itself. "These are the same companies that fought airbags, and now promoting the fact that every car has multiple airbags," he said. "These are the same companies that fought the crash-test program, and now are promoting the crash-test ratings published by the government. So, it's clear that they're misperceiving the needs of the American consumer." There are more reasons the Allliance's pushback is flawed. Carol Lee Rawn, the transportation program director for Ceres, said on that call that the automotive industry is a global one, and many automakers are moving to global platforms to help them meet strict fuel economy rules around the world.
