i am selling my 2002 GOLF TDI 5 SPEED 50+MPG.  It has a 8/10 black exterior and 8/10 iterior.  Recently purchased this for my significant other and she told me she had to have an SUV.  the car is a manual five speed that was a commuter car 270k highway miles.  Its clear that all the miles were highway miles.  its a clean title 2 owner car that was purchased new in frederick, md.  it was sold with 170,000 to a local commuter and he put the last 100k on it.

Mechanically: The car runs great has had recent brakes, glowplugs, ebrake cables and tires within the last 10k miles.  the car has a fresh pa inspection(12/13).  trasnsmition is great with the exception of needing a new 5th gear.  This is an easy fix for any vw mechanic.  I was planing on doing a .658 fifth gear to get even more amazing mileage but she had to have an SUV.  The clutch feels great and every gear shifts fine with the exception of 5th.  when you put it in fifth it whines but there is no pull.  the car has no check engine light on(rare for a VW).  the suspension is great no rattles or shakes.

Exterior:  the exterior is in amazing shape for the mileage.  other then the few stone chips in the hood and a small door ding the body is perfect.  i put a set of VW Montreal 2 BBS wheels with great tires on it and took the factor steel weels off.  rust free body.  it has a very small stone chip on the windshield(passed inspection fine doesn't need windshield). the rear bumper has a small amount of adhesive residue from previous owners dog stickers that i took off.  the passengerside weather stripping around window has a small tear and could be replaced but doesnt leak(yes im being picky but i want to make sure you know what your buying).

Interior: i would put at a 10 if it didnt have a small hole in the driver side bolster(about the size of a pen head) and has the typical vw door fabric sag.  radio works gret and both cup holders are intact.  the headliner is great and not sagging.  a tab is broke for the rear ashtray type thing in the center console but still works fine.  it has crank windows, ac blows cold(the one warm day we have had recently i tested it), all lights work, all speakers work great,

World Car Of The Year down to its final four

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Judges for the World Car of the Year Award have narrowed down the finalists to just four vehicles. Out of a total of 42 entries, only the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86 and Volkswagen Golf remain standing. For Volkswagen, this marks the second consecutive year the company has had an entry among the finalists, and the fourth time since 2009. In order to qualify, a vehicle must be on sale on two continents during the span of time between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013. A panel of 66 journalists from 23 countries then vote on the finalists.
Three vehicles have made the cut for the last round of voting on the 2013 World Performance Car as well, with the Cayman/Boxster and FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 running against the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Meanwhile, the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid are duking it out for the World Green Car Award. Finally, the World Car Design of the Year Award is up for grabs between the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mazda6. Check out the full press release below. Overall winners will be presented at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

VW joins Daimler's protest of new A/C refrigerant as EU deadline for compliance passes

Sun, 06 Jan 2013

The case of Dupont and Honeywell's refrigerant R-1234yf is doing the exact opposite of keeping things cool. The two chemical companies have spent years and hundreds of millions of dollars developing R-1234yf to replace R-134a, the new refrigerant shown to be 99.7-percent kinder to the environment than the one it is meant to succeed. Part of that development has been years of testing by governments, outside safety agencies and automakers to approve the chemical for use in cars. It passed the protocols necessary for the European Union to declare that new and significantly revised cars from 2013 onward needed to use R-1234yf, and mandated that every car as of 2017 must use it.
Enter Daimler AG. The automaker created a head-on collision test with a B-Class at their Sindelfingen test track that would lead to the pressurized refrigerant being sprayed on the engine. The result in 20 out of 20 test was that the refrigerant burst into flames as soon as it hit the hot engine, while Daimler says that R-134a does not catch fire in the same test. Another unexpected result of the R-1234yf test was the release of hydrogen flouride, a chemical far more deadly to humans than hydrogen cyanide, emitted in such amounts that it that turned the windshield white as it began to eat into the glass.
Said a Daimler engineer in a Reuters piece, "It was scarcely believable. The most complicated lab tests conducted using the most sensitive measuring instruments around found nothing and all we do is drive a car around a couple of times, open a tiny hole in the refrigerant line and the next thing you know the car is on fire." So Daimler said it wouldn't use the refrigerant, and it recalled the cars it had already shipped with R-1234yf.

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
