Ok here we go. Please read the entire ad before you bid. You are looking at a 02 VW GTi. It has the 1.8 turbo engine and a manual 5 speed tranny. The engine has had quite a few mods and it is very fast and very fun to drive. The body is great and paint is a 8 out of 10. The interior is typical vw. The seats are good and I have replaced the door cards with R32 leather cards. The power windows work well as well as the door locks. Now for the good stuff...

The engine is a 1.8t with a K04 turbo upgrade that is less than 6mos on new turbo. The car had some tuning on it when I purchased it and I was told that APR did the tuning. It has a eurojet intercooler and forge diverter valve and hoses. AEM cold air intake. Gates racing timing belt and all upgraded tensioners and water pump. It has ECS power pullies and complete magna flow exhaust (yep its loud) It has all new vac lines and everything was pressure tested at the time of new turbo install. Right now the boost is still controlled by the computer and its around 18psi. I have a grimm speed manual waste gate control that needs to be installed and will come with the car. It also has an HKS turbo timer and boost gauges installed. The suspension is a complete H&R upgrade and it has neuspeed rear torsion bar. Its running a set of MOMO wheels. Im sure I have forgotten something but you get the idea. Its fast, not top fuel dragster fast but it will haul ass.

Now for the bad. It has a crack in the windshield not bad but its there. Im getting a random code for the o2 sensor it comes and goes. Im sure it needs a new one. The AC doesnt work. The compressor has a broken shaft this is caused by spooling it up hard while the compressor is under load. I have a used compressor that is not installed that will also go with the car. It needs tires. The steel belts are not showing but it will need tires soon.

It runs and drives great and its a real sleeper. Most folks think it has a cheap muffler installed (because its loud) and they find it hard to keep up. The timing belt, water pump, tensioner, turbo, coil packs, plugs are all less than 6mos old. The car isnt perfect but a really good fun car to have. I hate to sell it because I have an ass of money in it and Ill never get it back. I needed a truck and something has to go. I really like these cars. I actually own another one that I drive every day that is stock. There good cars. Please feel free to ask any and all questions before you bid. Do not bid with unanswered questions. If you have 0 feedback email me before you bid or it will be cancelled. Sorry but relisting items due to non paying bidders gets old quick. I have no problem picking you up at the airport. I can help you load it or assist with shipping. But the shipping cost is up to the buyer. I can deliver within reason for a fee.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

VW Super Bowl teaser with Jimmy Cliff is like a less-mean Tosh.0 Web Redemption

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

Reggae super-duper-star and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Cliff has been using music to send positive vibes out into the universe for decades now, so its no surprise that his message on behalf of Volkswagen is one of redemption.
Dubbed Sunny Side, this web-spot is VW's warmup of sorts for what promises to be another blockbuster year in the world of Super Bowl commercials. Without giving away the game, the euphonious commercial sees Cliff opening his arms and his heart to some YouTube 'celebrities' that might see courser treatment from the likes of Tosh.0, for instance. We can't help but be reminded of Coca-Cola's legendary 1971 Hilltop spot with the "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" lyric, too.
Enjoy the pre-Super Bowl VW spot below, and don't forget to pay it forward... your karma will thank you. For those of you that just can't get enough of commercial-making magic, we've included a "making-of" video, as well.

Car and Driver shows off awesome 1960s ads

Fri, Sep 11 2015

Someone must have recently rediscovered the keys to the archives at Car and Driver, and the access has been put to good use. Following last month's fantastic look at automotive ads from the '50s, there's now a new gallery running from March 1960 through December 1969. This collection provides a great overview of a decade full of iconic cars. If you're a fan of Carroll Shelby, particularly his Mustangs, then there's a lot to love among this group. One ad from July 1965 aimed to sell the GT350, but with an ocean of text and a tiny picture, it probably could've used a once-over by Don Draper's team. By December '65, the copywriters ironed out the problems with a spot proclaiming boldly "Shelby GT350 is 'Son of Cobra.'" The company offered some great accessories, too. For those into European motoring, there's a humorous attempt to sell the Alfa Romeo Giulia as both a racecar and family hauler. Toyota also boasts about the winning record for the 2000GT. Among the best text comes from BMW for lines like: "What's BMW got? The most advanced high-performance engine in any production car, for a cruising speed of 100 mph." Of course, Volkswagen's famous "Lemon" ad for the Beetle also gets its due here. Separately, each of these ads is fascinating, but taken together they tell the story of a great decade of motoring. Go give them all a read at Car and Driver.
