Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Weekender Edition With Pop Top on 2040-cars
Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States
Want to live your VW camper van dreams? I did. I have wanted a pop-up camper van since I was 16 years old. I found this one two years ago and bought it in June 2012 from a private seller in Illinois. It was clean, low-mileage and treated like a member of the family. The engine was replaced at approximately 112k miles so while the van itself has 148k miles, the engine is a baby of 36k. I've lived two footloose and camping-filled years in it and am moving on to my next lifelong dream (Vintage Airstream or Scamp renovation!).
The van is in great shape. I've kept it road ready and would drive it anywhere. (In fact, we're probably on a trip right now so there might be a few more miles on it by the time you buy it. It is my every day vehicle that gets used to drive to the train station as well.) It seats 7 and sleeps 4. There's a cooler under the driver's side rear-facing seat, which keeps your snacks and bevvies cool. Plus, it has a factory installed auxilliary battery so you can keep it on without draining your battery. It has an easily removable rear-facing seat on the passenger side, fold-up table and of course, the rear bench folds down into a great, big comfy bed. You'll see photos of all of the interior screens and curtains along with the cooler, etc. The van was in a minor car accident in 2013. Someone pulled out of a lot and into me at a low speed. No frame damage was done and the van was repaired by VW loving experts at a certified auto-body shop. The sliding door was replaced and the passenger side was repainted so it literally looks as good as new. There is a crack in the back gate and a small paint ding on the van. All the curtains are functioning and close up tight for camping privacy. There are extra screens, etc. with the van. The front of the pop top has some canvas repairs to keep it bug free. I replaced the ac at 124k. All new tires at 136k. New battery, tie rods, ball joints and complete alignment at 141k. New muffler at 145k, which I did pretty much just for YOU dear buyer so that it sounds sweet and runs like a top. I also had the interior detailed so it's clean as a whistle. |

Pontiac Aztek enjoys rebirth thanks to Millennials
Fri, Sep 11 2015Apparently, Millennials – those between 18 and 34 – aren't afraid to look different on the road, and they like performance, too. A new study by Edmunds is discovering some surprising vehicle choices by this group. Among them, the long-derided Pontiac Aztek is getting a new day in the sun with 25.5 percent its buyers coming from this generation in the first half of 2015. For comparison, Millennials represent an average of 16.8 percent of used car purchases. The Aztek is slowly shaking its reputation as a styling abomination, which seems tied to its appearance on Breaking Bad. The show premiered in 2008, and the Pontiac has been on this list for four of the past five years, according to Edmunds. It even led the pack in 2010. A recent Retro Review from MotorWeek also showed that the crossover wasn't always so hated. While it's still a shock to see the Aztek on any popularity list, the awkward-looking crossover only ranks sixth among Millennials. The vehicle with the biggest portion of buyers from the generation is the Dodge Magnum with 27.6 percent. According to Edmunds, the bluntly styled wagon is especially popular in Detroit and Chicago. The Chrysler Pacifica comes in a close second at 27.3 percent. When it comes to used cars, value and utility appear to trump just about anything else for many Millennial buyers," Edmunds analyst Jeremy Acevedo said in the report. Young buyers aren't afraid of sporty rides, either. The Subaru WRX has 26.4 percent Millennial buyers to rank third place on the list, and the Volkswagen R32 takes fifth at 25.7 percent. Just a few points lower in seventh place is the Nissan GT-R at 25.4 percent, and the final performance machine in 10th place is the Lexus IS-F with 24.7 percent. Related Video:
VW Golf Sportsvan succeeds Golf Plus in Frankfurt
Sun, 08 Sep 2013
Just ahead of this week's Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen has announced the world premiere of its Golf Sportsvan, a near-production concept that succeeds its Golf Plus. VW describes this compact family car as "one of the most versatile vehicles of the compact class," noting that it offers a mix of hatchback and minivan features in a sporty package.
That sportiness comes from the Sportsvan's styling (perhaps more sleek wagon than minivan) and performance features it shares with the Golf GTI - including the XDS+ electronic differential lock, which is integrated into the Electronic Stability Control system to improve agility. At the same time, the Sportsvan's six engine options, which include a turbodiesel, are up to 19-percent more fuel-efficient than their predecessors.
VW bringing fuel cell concept to LA Auto Show
Mon, Nov 17 2014Amid the flurry of hydrogen announcements from Toyota and Honda last night, Volkwagen has something to add: a new hydrogen fuel cell concept vehicle. This will be the first VW hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in many years – remember the Tiguan Hy-Motion back in 2008? – and it comes as a bit of a surprise. First written up by the German publication Wirtschaft Woche, VW is going to have the prototype car (not pictured) available at the ride and drive at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this week. We don't yet know what kind of vehicle will sport the hydrogen powertrain, but our money's on a Golf variant. We'll see soon enough when we get to Los Angeles. What's interesting is that there have been a number of not-so-mixed messages out of the VW executive ranks when it comes to hydrogen vehicles. VW's Japanese president, Shigeru Shoji, said in September that, hydrogen fuel cells, "may fly within Japan, but not globally." Last year, VW's electrification head Rudolf Krebs said that "hydrogen mobility only makes sense if you use green energy." Also last year, VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said it's basically impossible to build hydrogen vehicles at a "reasonable cost." Nonetheless, we're going to see a new VW H2 concept soon. Thoughts?
