I have been the only owner of this great van (other than VW Credit) and I am reluctant to sell it but I can no longer garage it. It has plenty of power, even when towing, and gets 20-22 mpg highway. It has the Winnebago full package of 2-burner propane stove, 3-way refrigerator (115V/12V/propane), sink, gray water tank, 12 gallon water supply, outside cold water shower, propane furnace and room for a porta-pot. With the top up, you can stand up, sleep 2 adults down and 2 small people up. Front seats swivel to face rear so 4 can eat comfortably at the same table. This van includes the removable center seat in excellent condition. Extras include double VW carpet mat in cab, protective mats for cab and living area, full awning, a class IV receiver hitch with braking system, land line, cables and gray water hose. Everything works just fine except the exhaust gas recirculator module needs replacing. This is a GREAT van, becoming a classic. I am a 70 year old lady who has babied this van. I put in it everything I needed to be comfortable on the road so my husband and I could take a trip on the spur of the moment with everything ready to go. We were so comfortable and had some great times from the coast to the mountains. I am 90 minutes from Portland, OR and can arrange to meet you or guide you from there. |

VW invests in QuantumScape for potentially fireproof, long-range EV batteries
Mon, Dec 8 2014VW might be getting ready to push its plug-in technology in a big way thanks to an investment in the battery startup QuantumScape. Key point: the solid-state battery is said to be fireproof and will offer tremendous range advantages. Details are not abundant yet, but according to Bloomberg, VW of America bought a five-percent stake in QuantumScape (and has an option to raise its holding). The tech could "more than triple" the EV range of VW, Porsche and Audi plug-in vehicles as soon as the middle of 2015, according to unnamed sources that Bloomberg talked to. Former Stanford University researchers started QuantumScape in 2010. The bare-bones QuantumScape website (there's nothing there other than some contact information) doesn't offer many hints about what's happening at the company, but GigaOM's Katie Fehrenbacher notes that QuantumScape is licensing tech from the "All Electron Battery" project at Stanford a few years ago. It certainly sounds amazing: [It's] a completely new class of electrical energy storage devices for electric vehicles that has the potential to provide ultra-high energy and power densities, while enabling extremely high cycle life. The All-Electron Battery stores energy by moving electrons, rather than ions, and uses electron/hole redox instead of capacitive polarization of a double-layer. ... If successful, this project will develop a completely new paradigm in energy storage for electrified vehicles that could revolutionize the electric vehicle industry. Updated J.D. Power APEAL study shines on VW Group, Chevy

Power has just revealed the results of its 2013 APEAL Study, which looks at which brands have the most appealing cars based on sales figures, dealer inventory, brand loyalty, transaction and trade-in prices. The study was revamped for 2013, and places a larger focus on the new tech and infotainment options available to customers. All told, study participants gauged their vehicles on 77 different attributes, delivering a score out of a 1,000 points.
The Volkswagen Group had the greatest success of any corporation, topping the APEAL rankings with the Audi Allroad, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayenne, VW GTI and Passat. Chevrolet had the highest number of awards for a single brand, though, with the Avalanche, Sonic and Volt all taking home a prize.
The best brand overall was Porsche, which scored 884 out of a possible 1,000 points. The top Japanese brand was Lexus with a score of 847, while the top American brand was Cadillac, at 841. The best mainstream brand was Ram, which received a very respectable 817. The industry average for this year's study was 795, with 16 brands, all of which were mainstream, falling below the average.
