Up for sale is our 2003 VW Eurovan Weekender. It is in good condition, and comes with a number of nice upgrades/extras. We love our vehicle, and it is our daily driver.

Details of the vehicle: the odometer reads 133,198. We did replace the original engine at 102,000 miles with another used engine that ALSO had 102,000 miles on it (+/- a couple hundred miles, JK Automotive, VW Specialists in Summerville). We took it in for a blown seal, and we discovered that the previous owner had not done regular maintenance on the original engine, and it was sludged up past repair. We had a number of other things taken care of at the time of the engine replacement. They are as follows:
  • Replaced Timing Chain
  • Installed 4 brand new Bilstein shocks
  • Replaced all 4 rotors and brakes
  • Replaced all four tires with brand new Michelin Primacy MV4 tires
  • Replaced Fuel Pump
  • Installed new auxiliary battery under driver seat (powers cooler under rear facing seat, and two 12v outlets in the rear)
  • Installed two 3-point seat belts on the rear facing seats (replacing lap belt)
  • Installed custom black and gray neoprene seat covers throughout (very slick looking! Original upholstery underneath is in excellent condition.)
  • Installed backup camera
  • Installed JVC stereo with USB/Bluetooth
  • Installed ScanGauge II
Some other info/features of the van:
  • comes with a roof rack, as well as an additional Yakima all weather hard shell luggage carrier.
  • has towing package
  • pop-top canvas is in great shape
  • comes with all curtains, and the bug net
  • a/c
  • cruise control
  • power windows
  • power locks
  • Bluetooth audio capability
  • seats 7
  • sleeps 4-5
  • cooler under driver side rear-facing seat
  • and more...
As with any vehicle a decade old, there are some minor cosmetic issues, namely a couple dents and dings, and scratches from highway stones. The handle to the driver side lockbox is missing. I use a screwdriver to open it. One of the arms on one of the rear-facing seats has the dreaded VW "droopy arm" syndrome. I purchased the replacement parts to fix this, but have not done so yet - I will either have it fixed, or will include the parts in the sale. The passenger side rearview mirror is cracked from the impact of hitting another mirror in a parking lot. It is just cosmetic - it still functions as it should. Floor mats are in good condition, but the rear mat has a few stains from regular use. I have brand new custom made front mats that I have never installed - they will be included.

Recharge Wrap-up: Tesla details factory expansion; Ford and SunPower raise money for Sierra Club

Thu, Nov 20 2014

Tesla has revealed the details of the upgrade of its Fremont, CA factory. One major change is the addition of a dedicated production space for the dual-motor P85D version of the Model S. Robots will be doing the battery installation on the Model S to save some time, and new export docks allow Tesla to get the cars out the door and on the way to their new owners more quickly. The new robots that move the cars around the factory have been named after X-Men characters, which makes our inner geeks smile. Check out the factory upgrade in the time-lapse video below and read more at Teslarati or at the Tesla Motors Blog. A program in Beijing for privileged registrations for EVs hasn't had much success. Of the 1,424 lottery winners, only about 30 percent went on to register an electric car despite a two-month extension of the deadline to do so. Buyers are likely discouraged by the lack of charging infrastructure, which the city hopes to ameliorate with the addition of 1,000 new charging stations by the end of the year, and by requiring new and renovated developments to set aside parking specifically for EV charging. Read more at Green Car Reports. The UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies suggests that laws designed to protect dealers and consumers are stymieing the adoption of EVs. Laws like the ones certain states have in place that block or otherwise restrict Tesla's direct-to-consumer business model are not helpful for companies that want to introduce new products to the market. They prevent companies from passing on savings to customers for whom they would likely make the difference in a purchasing decision. One possible solution would be to allow exemptions to certain selling restrictions for a certain number of vehicles sold. "This could give automakers the degree of control needed to work out kinks with early customers, develop scalable processes for supporting PEVs, and ensure that effective dealer performance standards are in place before handing the reins over to wholly independent retailers," according to UC Davis ITS. Read more at the UC Davis website. Volkswagen says its environmental program, called "Think Blue. Factory," is meeting the automaker's own sustainability targets. The main purpose of the program is to move toward eco-friendlier carmaking at each of its plants worldwide.

Volkswagen Golf Variant Concept R-Line puts the sport in SportWagen

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

With the introduction of the newest Volkswagen Golf Variant, we get an early look at what will most likely be the next-generation Jetta SportWagen here in the US. To further wet our appetities, VW is now teasing something a little sportier with the Concept R-Line. Looking the part of a GTI wagon (or a stretched Golf R), the Golf Variant Concept R-Line has a production-ready appearance that has us hoping we'll see this sporty wagon sooner rather than later.
The R-Line starts off with a new fascia that isn't quite as aggressive as the recently introduced GTI, but it gives the new styling some extra punch. Below the fascia is a lower splitter that visually carries back into the rocker panel extensions, and the rear of the car gets some bright exhaust tips and a rear diffuser. The Lapis Blue Metallic paint job probably does enough on its own to add a sporty flair to the Golf wagon, and it's all finished off with 18-inch split-spoke wheels. Inside, the Concept R-Line shows off sport seats wrapped in carbon leather featuring blue nappa inserts in the middle.
Rightfully so, VW brought the Concept R-Line to Geneva with its TDI and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. A sporty, all-wheel-drive diesel wagon? Yes, please. Scroll down for the full press blast with all the details.
