1993 Eurovan weekender package for sale.   Please read the entire description for this sale:

This vehicle has a been a wonderful VW for me.  I've had it 5 years, had some great trips with my family, great concerts/tailgating.
I am selling as I now have 5 VW’s in my driveway, 2 Vespas, and a London double decker bus in mid restoration.   My wife and neighbors are 1/2 step away from killing me if something doesn’t go!!!
Anyone who has had one of these knows how versatile they are.   Seats 7.  Sleeps 4.   can fit a full 4'x8' sheet of drywall/plywood inside.  Great for taking all the kids to sporting events, and i fit just about everything i ever needed from Home Depot into it with no problem!!  I am sad to be listing it, but just too many things going on right now in my driveway !

Seats 2 up front, 5 in the rear (3 along bench seat, 2 in rear facing seats).  Rear seat folds down, slides out, creating another bed.  Top pops up, but no interior camping gear such as a stove/fridge.

I am the 4th owner of this Eurovan and bought it in 10/2009 with 145k miles (it now has 179k +/- as I’m still using it daily.  It was originally an Arizona car, then to VA in 2005, then to NJ in 2006.

It originally had an automatic trans which was essentially non-functioning.   I decided to take the manual transmission out of my other eurovan (same year, hardtop, but with a bad body), and put the manual trans into this camper.   The manual trans had ~150k when we put it in the camper (installing a new clutch at the time).  All work was performed by RPM in Westwood, NJ in spring 2010.
Anyone who has had one of these knows how problematic the autotrans can be!!
The other engine from the donor Eurovan also comes with this Auction.   It has ~150k on it.

The camper has run beautifully since the transmission swapover and I use it as my daily driver as well as periodic trips to Virginia Beach (about a 7 hour trip each way).

The camper is in decent shape but does need some attention, especially on a couple of rust spots.  I will list out everything I know to be wrong with the van.
-horn is present but doesn’t work
-cruise control doesn't work
-driver’s window won’t go up or down.   The motor is fine; it’s an electrical issue somewhere.
-rear speakers are present but unusable and need to be replaced.
-AC doesn’t work (blows air, but not cold)
-Dashpod temperature gauge and gas gauge work intermittently.  Articles on various VW user sights state it’s a loose connection and is fairly common and fixable.
-surface rust along vertical body seams on the side of the camper in the rear.
-surface and rocker rust on passenger side front door (worst area and perforated)
-surface rust on driver rocker area
-minor defects/broken pieces in trim work (see pictures)
-exhaust has several leaks.  Muffler is only a year old, but area around the catalytic converter has leaks; not the cat itself though.
-handle to open the cargo door is broken.  It functions fine, but the part that you squeeze with the grip of your fingers is split in two.
-pop top canvas has some tears but can be repaired without having to completely remove everything (I envisioned simply cutting out the bad areas and sewing in a screened area, but never got around to it).
-Radio functions perfectly but is the originally cassette player (hey, at least it’s not 8-track!)

Positive stuff:
-I have all service records since I’ve owned it, and a lot of records from prior owners
-Tires are Kumho 235/65/16 104H which are rated at 104H (for heavier cars) and have ~80% tread left on them.   1 extra tire comes with it (same as 4 on the van).
-All screens, curtains, and headrests are on or with the camper
-Fiamma F45 retractable awning (works beautifully!)
-Roof racks (but not for anything super heavy;  maybe skis, surboard, or perhaps a canoe)
-all cup holders are intact :)

-
I encourage potential buyers to come see it, test drive it, etc… I will also take it to a local shop/dealer of your choice to have them do an overall inspection of the vehicle (potential buyers and I would  have to agree how to handle this).
I will do my best to provide any additional pictures and/or video requested.
Camper is also listed locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early if there is a non-ebay buyer.
Camper is a nice vehicle with some  issues due to age and wear and tear; but all issues can be resolved.
I have set a reserve price which I feel is reasonable, in line with market prices MINUS the estimated costs to repair all items I listed as being problematic with the vehicle.
I will edit auction to add a "buy it now price" if an acceptable offer is made (otherwise, we just let the auction runs its course)
I am available to show/test drive it Mon/Tues/Sat/Sun of this week.

I will NOT ship to Nigeria, will not accept checks from Nigeria, won't wire money to Nigeria, and won't deal with folks who's secretary "accidentally" sent me $5,000 too much.
I also don't have a lot of patience for buyers who want to ding ebay sellers for differences in opinion on the condition of items being sold.  If you want more detail, ask:  I will send you as many pictures as I can.
I will work with any buyer if there is truly something that I have overlooked, but if its just a buyer with an overinflated sense of entitlement, well, please just move along and save your drama for someone else.

Happy bidding.  I will do my best to answer questions in a timely fashion.
Thank you!

Automakers score 8 out of top 20 most-watched ads on YouTube [w/videos]

Fri, 14 Dec 2012

Who would have ever thought there'd be a day where people are able to skip television commercials only to go to websites to watch them later? Such is the joy of a DVR and YouTube. AdWeek tabulated the 20 most-watched ads on YouTube, and found that nine were car-related including eight coming from automakers.
Volkswagen continued its Star Wars theme with two ads in the top 20, including the highest-ranking car commercial The Bark Side spot at number three with almost 18 million views, which doesn't even have a single car in it. Some of our favorites are from Chrysler with Clint Eastwood in It's Halftime in America and House Arrest with Charlie Sheen for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Chevrolet, Honda, Audi and Toyota were the other automakers in the top 20, but we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention one of the coolest ads on the list, the Hot Wheels corkscrew jump.
Of all the car videos, only the Fiat ad wasn't played during a Super Bowl. Check out all eight videos - in order - after the jump. Nike took the top spot with its My Time is Now ad that has been seen online more than 20 million times with Pepsi's Uncle Drew posted up in the runner-up; some of the other videos include four Old Spice commercials and an ad in which Snoop Dogg is pedaling Hot Pockets.

Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures

Tue, Jun 23 2020

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski  Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.
