1990 Volkswagen Cabriolet Base Convertible 2-door 1.8l - No Resrve!! on 2040-cars
Davidsonville, Maryland, United States
Just in time for summer!! You are bidding on our family-owned 1990 Volkswagen Cabriolet. We have had this car for about 16 years. It belong to my aunt and then I purchased it from her. I have done many upgrades to the car. I have replaced the convertible canvas top. I had repainted it to Porsche guards- red. I added headers and a Techtonic exhaust system. It's a quick little car. I have also replaced the motor and radiator two years ago. The motor is still a stock 8v 1.8 L engine. I have only used premium fuel as well. The steering wheel has been upgraded to a Momo (pictured). The interior including the seats and carpet have all been refurbished as well. The seat covers on all the cars accustomed to match the paint and rims, obviously. Since we have redone the car, it has always been parked in the garage. There is no rust anywhere on the car in the body is bone-straight. It has never been in an accident. In the past 6-7 years, it is never been driven in the rain or snow. Most of the mechanical and cosmetic upgrades have been done in the past 6-7 years but, it is still a work in progress. The rims and tires are like new-they have maybe 2000 miles on them total. I have the original rims and tires and they will convey with the car (must be taken - I need the room!) Additionally, I had to have the speedometer replaced because the original one stopped working @ 157k. Although the odometer reads 110K, the motor, clutch and exhaust have less than 4k miles on them. The radio has been upgraded. It is iPod ready. The a/c and heat also work perfectly.
Mechanical issues: You will need a new battery or to recharge the current one. It has sat for over a year in the garage. It took a while for me to jump it, but it does start and run well. The steering column needs a bracket. The car handles great but you can hear a "bump" when making tight turns. The horn doesn't work. It needs a relay fan switch. While driving, the car runs great, when stopped, the fan doesn't turn on and it may overheat. The fan works, but the relay switch does not. The hose that runs from the antifreeze reservoir to the radiator needs to be replaced. The rubber around the windows needs to be replaced as well. The top doesn't leak but water will get in from the window jams (be careful when washing.) This has never been an issue for me, as I have kept it out of the elements during my ownership. My family and I have had a lot of great memories with the "Red Baron." It has only been a spring and summer car for us and we will miss it greatly, but it is time to move on. Hopefully you will give it the same amount of love and attention that we have. This vehicle is being
offered for sale “AS-IS” because of year and miles. If you are new to Ebay or if you have fewer
than 4 transactions, please contact me prior to bidding for approval to bid or
I will cancel your bid immediately.
There is a $125 documentation fee in addition to the final selling
price. A $500 non-refundable deposit is
required via Paypal within 48 hours of auction close. Transaction must be
completed within 7 days of auction end (full payment and pick-up arrangements
at least). I have done my best to describe the vehicle as accurately as
possible. Once purchased, this car can
be driven anywhere in the country without issue. For those of you who are not
local, BWI is the closest airport to my location. Contact me via email with any questions.
Please bid with confidence and good luck. |

UAW tactics called into question at VW's TN plant
Thu, 26 Sep 2013The United Auto Workers is in hot water with some of the very workers it is trying to unionize at Volkswagen's Chattanooga assembly plant. According to The Tennessean, eight Volkswagen factory workers have filed complaints against the UAW with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming the union "misled or coerced" them into formally asking for union representation.
The UAW has instituted a major push at the Chattanooga plant to represent the 2,500 hourly laborers that build the VW Passat by using what's called a card-check process. The tactic is opposed by the National Right to Work Legal Defense foundation, the group representing the workers. The card-check process demands that a company recognize a union that obtains the signatures of more than half its workforce, according to The Tennessean. This tactic is in contrast to the more traditional route, which sees employees vote on union representation.
The workers filing the complaint claim that the UAW told them the cards merely called for a secret ballot, rather than an outright demand for union representation. Workers also allege that the UAW has made it overly difficult to reclaim their signed cards, some of which were signed so long ago that they have been rendered invalid. Although the cards can force a company's hand, federal law still allows the company to ask for a secret ballot before yielding to unionized workers.
Volkswagen NMC production guise caught in China
Tue, 29 Apr 2014Chinese car site Autohome has what are said to be the first pictures of the Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe concept in production form. VW's NMC was just introduced at the Beijing Motor Show, while background chatter indicated it would go on sale in China, Autohome says that production version will be built at the Shanghai-Volkswagen plant in Ningbo, and the retail guise could be introduced at the Guangzhou Motor Show in November and go on sale that same month.
Assuming this is the production car, its main lines have made the jump from the concept but with less fine detailing, a silver hue and with conventional VW wheels it's lost a little bit of oomph. Still, a few checkmarks on the option sheet can fix most of that, the shape remains handsome and the 2.0-liter turbo underhood keeps performance peppy and mileage frugal enough. You can head to Autohome for a couple more photos of a sedan we'd be happy to make room for over here.
Production Volkswagen Taigun crossover caught in patent filing?
Wed, 01 May 2013Volkswagen brought an angular, bulldog-like small crossover concept called Taigun to the São Paulo motor show last year, claiming that it wanted to gauge interest in the design before making a decision about production. If a new report with alleged leaked patent images is to be believed, then, interest must have been pretty high.
China's Auto.Sohu.com has published this group of Taigun images, claiming that they have been sourced from the Chinese patent office and that the subcompact VW utility based on the Up! has been cleared for production.
If all of that is true, and if these images are representative of the final product, you'll see that designers haven't done much to alter the concept car's appearance. Comparing, shot for shot, with the images we have from Brazil, we see that even small details like roof rack-mounted lights and exhaust tips integrated in the rear fascia have been carried over. Take a closer look for yourself in the attached galleries.
