Volkswagen Bus/vanagon 1970 No Reserve on 2040-cars
Abbeville, Louisiana, United States
I have a 1970 blue and white German Westfalia vw van ,that I had intentions of doing a frame off restoration but decided that I had to many other projects going on, the van is in restorable shape. The engine runs and the brakes work . The owner before me looks like they put a new carburetor on it and seems to run fine and doesn’t smoke. Gear shifter a little sloppy but shifts in all gears. There is rust around the top of the van on the edge of rain drip rail that is noticeable but doesn’t go through and through . There is rust through on the front bumper steps on the both sides missing rubber foot plates. Right bottom front door on the body there is rust through .There is rust though on the floor in three places on the rear cabin area ,one goes through and the others are slight and being to go through. The sliding door doesn’t slide very well and doesn’t line up. Not sure if its just the plastic and bearing guide or the rear slider hinge. The folding top seems to work well, needs new canvas. Rear hatch latch doesn’t open . Seems lock is frozen. Rear engine hatch opens with a hard pull seems hinges are worn. Seems back of van was repainted and some body work was done , doesn’t look like the van was ever wrecked but at one time someone tried to make it look better. The inside over head interior is gone on the front half of the van. The original overhead is in the rear half. The camper interior is complete in the back . The two interior peaces behind the driver and passenger seats is missing. Not sure what goes there . it seems that a folding chair goes behind the driver seat and a sink and fold out table goes behind the passenger seat . Haven’t researched what the options were in 1970. Anyway , its missing except bottom cushion of seat behind driver seat .The electrical system is in place seems about half doesn’t work ,not sure what works and doesn’t work. Glass is all intact but all rubber needs replacing for a rebuild. Broken mirror on passenger door. I know I’ve painted a grim picture of this van but I’ve wanted to give you all the details that I can see. In my younger days I’ve redone quite a few frame off rebuilds and this is prime for a rebuild. I found out there are many places to get parts and new sheet metal if needed and the prices are really reasonable I’m not like I used to be and things for me are a lot slower. I work full time as a helicopter mechanic and on my days off I mess around with motorcycles and I’m building a camp and on top of that. My wife came down with an illness and she’s doing better. As I said I’ve got too many irons in the fire. If you would like more pictures or ask any questions please contact me and I will be happy to get back to you . thank you ted |

Jaguar Land Rover seeks to block U.S. imports of Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, VW SUVs
Fri, Nov 20 2020You wouldn’t know it was about Jags and Lambos, to judge by its rather dry name: In the Matter of Certain Vehicle Control Systems. But thatÂ’s the complaint Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc filed on Thursday to block U.S. imports of Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi and Volkswagen sport utility vehicles it says are using its patented Terrain Response technology without permission. Jaguar Land Rover, a British carmaker owned by IndiaÂ’s Tata Motors Ltd., said in its filing with the U.S. International Trade Commission that the technology helps negotiate a “broad range of surfaces” and is a key feature in JaguarÂ’s F-Pace and Land Rover Discovery vehicles. “JLR seeks to protect itself and its United States operations from companies that have injected infringing products into the U.S. market that incorporate, without any license from JLR, technology developed by JLR and protected by its patent,” JaguarÂ’s lawyer, Matthew Moore, said in the filing. Representatives of Volkswagen didnÂ’t immediately respond to emails seeking comment on the complaint. Jaguar wants to block imports of PorscheÂ’s Cayenne; LamborghiniÂ’s Urus; AudiÂ’s Q8, Q7, Q5, A6 Allroad and e-tron vehicles; and VWÂ’s Tiguan vehicles. It said there are plenty of other luxury midsize SUV and compact crossover vehicles to meet consumer demand if the SUVs are banned from the U.S. Still, the premium Porsche and Audi lines provide much of the profit VW is using to fund its investments in technology for electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles and further innovations. In addition to the four brands, Volkswagen Group owns other upscale nameplates, including Bentley and Bugatti. The International Trade Commission is an independent, quasi-judicial agency that investigates complaints of unfair trade practices, like patent infringement. It canÂ’t award damages but does have the power to block products from entering the U.S. Owners of patents and trade secrets like it because it can work faster than the federal district courts -- the typical investigation is completed in 15 to 18 months. But Jaguar also filed patent lawsuits against the companies in federal courts in Delaware and New Jersey, seeking cash compensation for the use of the technology. Those cases are likely to be put on hold once the trade commission launches its investigation. The case is In the Matter of Certain Vehicle Control Systems, 337-3508, U.S. International Trade Commission (Washington).
Giorgetto Giugiaro sells shares in legendary styling house to Audi
Sat, Jul 4 2015Giorgetto Giugiaro undoubtedly stands among the great automotive designers of the 20th century, having penned the original Volkswagen Golf and Delorean DMC-12, among countless others. However, the great stylist is now longer an employee or even an owner of the company that bears his name. According to Automotive News, Giugiaro and his son, Fabrizio, sold their remaining 9.9 percent of Italdesign Giugiaro to Audi on Sunday, June 28, and the two resigned from the business the following day. The news about this just came out, though. The exact reason that the two men left the company hasn't been made entirely clear. According to Automotive News, a statement said that Giorgetto Giugiaro went "to dedicate more time to his personal interests." Italdesign Giugiaro remains open and intends to keep growing, though, the same announcement asserts. After stints at Bertone and Ghia, Giugiaro founded Italdesign in 1968. He created some masterpieces there, including '70s wedges like Maserati Merak, Lotus Esprit, and much more. The 2000s weren't so kind and 90.1 percent of the company was sold to Volkswagen Group in 2010. Former Audi design boss Wolfgang Egger took over styling duties there in late 2013, but he only lasted for about a year, leaving in late 2014. Since the sale, Italdesign has continued to work, including with the Gea concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and the very mean-looking Parcour in 2013. Giugiaro's designs are still highly prized, as well. On September 5, Bonhams is auctioning the Maserati Boomerang concept by him and expects to get around $4 million for it. The gallery above offers a few more examples of his and Italdesign's concepts for VW Group over the years.
Updated J.D. Power APEAL study shines on VW Group, Chevy
Wed, 24 Jul 2013J.D. Power has just revealed the results of its 2013 APEAL Study, which looks at which brands have the most appealing cars based on sales figures, dealer inventory, brand loyalty, transaction and trade-in prices. The study was revamped for 2013, and places a larger focus on the new tech and infotainment options available to customers. All told, study participants gauged their vehicles on 77 different attributes, delivering a score out of a 1,000 points.
The Volkswagen Group had the greatest success of any corporation, topping the APEAL rankings with the Audi Allroad, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayenne, VW GTI and Passat. Chevrolet had the highest number of awards for a single brand, though, with the Avalanche, Sonic and Volt all taking home a prize.
The best brand overall was Porsche, which scored 884 out of a possible 1,000 points. The top Japanese brand was Lexus with a score of 847, while the top American brand was Cadillac, at 841. The best mainstream brand was Ram, which received a very respectable 817. The industry average for this year's study was 795, with 16 brands, all of which were mainstream, falling below the average.
