Mint Condition ,museum quality 1978 Riviera. Rebuilt 2 fuel injected hydraulic valve motor. Mint interior (all original). I picked this van up from the 2nd owner. The van has only been driven sparingly a couple times a year to family outings and local festivals, and camping / road trips. The van has been garaged since 1978. This van has only 95k original miles. Absolutely ZERO RUST!!! The van looks looks like it just rolled of the show room floor in 1978 say for a few rock ships, minor nicks ect. Both the first and second owners were meticulous when it came to the maintenance and general care and preservation of the van. Garaged since new, no really, garaged since new... One key fits all locks. Stored for many years. Runs, drives, perfect. One of the best, if not the best original Rivieras in the country.... Way to much to list. PAINT/ BODY- 100% Original paint in near mint condition. Sought after Neptune Blue. No paint work ever.... I sand blasted and repainted the bumpers and wheels. Wheels were painted to the factory correct silver finish. Never wrecked. Body and door gaps perfect. This van looks as good as it did when it rolled of the factory floor in 1978. All the pin striping is original on both the body and pop top. The pin stripe colors give it a classic, vintage look. All lenses are perfect. Spotless under carriage. Factory under coating is in great condition. Zero cancer rust POP TOP- The pop top is in great condition, The original canvas is in excellent condition. The screen is in mint condition with no tears. Upper bunk upholstery is in mint condition. INTERIOR- This interior is in like new mint condition. The Rivieras came with factory front seat covers that match the rear z bed upholstery, The original seat upholstery underneath is in mint condition. All, cabinets are mint, no chips, cracks, scuffs ect., carpet is mint with absolutely no wear. All dome lights, dash lights, camping lights work. Dash is mint with no cracks, mats all look new, pop top in great shape with no rips. Heater works great. All electrical works perfect. Original cup holder and cutting board. Head liner, door panels are mint (the entire interior in mint original condition). The rear bed is a full size bed. One feature unique to the Riviera is that you can fold down one side of the bed so one passenger can be laying down , the other can be in the sitting position. Very nice dual storage bins mounted under the Z bed that are on rollers and slide out. Nice 80's stereo and speakers. Although the stereo (tape deck) is old its sounds great. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION- This bus has only 95,000 original miles. Rebuilt motor and transmission. The 2 liter fuel injected motor that runs perfect with plenty of power. The motor was rebuilt due to the van not being driven on a regular basis so the original owner had replaced engine seals and refreshed the motor while it was out. New fuel filter, repacked wheel bearings, plugs, cap rotor, fresh oil change, new clutch pressure plate, throw out bearing. New muffler, cold start regulator, new engine seal, battery. (Bus runs, drives, shifts, stops perfect.) This bus is ready for cross country driving. OTHER- Brand new tires, all new paint on wheels and bumpers, tachometer, The floor boards look excellent. Has factory under coating, Under carriage is dry and spotless clean. The hard to find factory window screens are in mint condition. Custom tye-dye curtains installed correctly on factory track system. Original jack, manuals, newer brakes front and rear. All dash, dome, (all electrical works perfect.) This is not your average Riviera. This bus is in near mint museum quality collector condition. This is as close as you can get to a brand new 78 Riviera as you can get. The original owners took amazing care of this van. The van has only been driven sparingly since new. This bus has always been garaged since new, no really garaged since new..... Interior is in amazing shape and in mint original condition. This bus is a time capsule that you just don't see every day, NO RUST, no wrecks in over 30 years! 1979 was the last year of air cooled bay windows. 2 liter fuel injected motor. 1978-79 buses with the 2 liter hydraulic motor are the most sought after bay windows due to the power, modern fuel injection, and economical gas mileage. 95k original miles. This is one of the finest bay window campers on the market and one best in the country. This van would be the perfect center piece for any VW collection. This van came out of my personal collection. Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures
Tue, Jun 23 2020It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.
Updated J.D. Power APEAL study shines on VW Group, Chevy
Wed, 24 Jul 2013J.D. Power has just revealed the results of its 2013 APEAL Study, which looks at which brands have the most appealing cars based on sales figures, dealer inventory, brand loyalty, transaction and trade-in prices. The study was revamped for 2013, and places a larger focus on the new tech and infotainment options available to customers. All told, study participants gauged their vehicles on 77 different attributes, delivering a score out of a 1,000 points.
The Volkswagen Group had the greatest success of any corporation, topping the APEAL rankings with the Audi Allroad, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayenne, VW GTI and Passat. Chevrolet had the highest number of awards for a single brand, though, with the Avalanche, Sonic and Volt all taking home a prize.
The best brand overall was Porsche, which scored 884 out of a possible 1,000 points. The top Japanese brand was Lexus with a score of 847, while the top American brand was Cadillac, at 841. The best mainstream brand was Ram, which received a very respectable 817. The industry average for this year's study was 795, with 16 brands, all of which were mainstream, falling below the average.
VW modular platform strategy goes all-in on EVs
Tue, Jan 7 2014The Volkswagen Group has already revealed or put on sale a broad slate of new electric vehicles: the E-up, the E-Golf (shown above), the Porsche 918 Spyder, the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the XL1. In 2014, there will be at least six more models, including the A3 Sportback E-Tron. And after that? Well, to hear Rudolf Krebs, Group Commissioner For Electric Vehicle Drive Systems, tell it, VW's future is full of plug-in goodness. "With our platform strategy, it is quite easy to bring a lot of electrified vehicles to the market for the different brands in a very short time," he said. "We try, with a minimum of those components, to produce a maximum number of variants of cars" That strategy starts with three platforms: MQB for small cars, MLB for midsize models and MSB for sporty and premium products (there's also the NSF for cars like the E-up). Speaking to AutoblogGreen, Krebs said VW has designed modules, things like engines and electric components (think: AC compressor, on-board chargers and battery management systems), to be used across all three platforms and across all brands all. "We try, with a minimum of those components, to produce a maximum number of variants of cars," he said. "This is only possible if, at an early stage of the design of new vehicles, we implement the idea that these cars are not only designed for gasoline and diesel powertrains but that we can also include CNG concepts, flex-fuel concepts, pure electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid vehicles. With minor changes in the body in white, we can produce those vehicles, bumper-to-bumper, in one factory." "VW wants to be the leader in the electrification of vehicles" In this way, customers can choose the powertrain that they want, or whatever powertrain their local regulations demand. Politicians have already put a lot of pressure on the automotive industry, with ever-stricter CO2 regulations coming into effect in all of the major markets. In the US, the fuel economy regulation numbers require the equivalent of 101 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer by 2025. Europe, it's 95 grams by 2020. And China, which is asking for 118 grams by 2020, will be a tough scenario, Krebs said. Today, by optimizing conventional technologies and supporting things like CNG and biofuels, more than 300 VW Group models emit less than 120 g/km. A hundred of those are even under 100 g/km. But this is not sufficient, and VW admits that conventional powertrains will not be not enough.
