Fun People Hauler
By 1970, the Volkswagen Bus, VW's lovable, adaptable rear-engine box, had become an icon on America's highways and in its driveways. The Volkswagen Bus had gained acceptance among suburban families, car-poolers, and of course, counterculture types. The passenger-carrying Station Wagon model of the Volkswagen Bus had long been a favorite of the young and young-at-heart. "Hippy vans" painted up in psychedelic designs were a fixture of the 1960s. This example has that wonderful two- tone color combination of light blue with a cloud white top. Adding to this look is the roof luggage rack that is useful for that weekend trip or carrying the kids' sporting needs. The Bus has seating for 7 people, with cargo space in rear behind the third seat. The center seat can easily be removed to make room for larger cargo items. Conditions: Body/paint: no rust ever (from New Mexico), correct original blue/cloud white, older respray, no accident repairs, floors are original with original blue paint, in good to very good original condition. Chrome/trim: original, all intact, in good to very good condition. Weather stripping/rubber trim: original condition in fair to good condition. Wheels/tires: new wheels with excellent white wall tires (90% wear left). Roof rack: new condition. Glass: wind shield has some minor wiper scuffs overall in good original condition, side and rear glass in very good to excellent condition. Undercarriage/wheel wells: overall in original 'rust free' condition with new steering components (has good tight feel/drives a straight line), new rear shocks, in very good to excellent condition considering its 44 year old original condition. Engine/engine compartment: all intact, original blue paint, in nicely maintained good condition. The engine and drive train are in very good working order. Runs strong and shifts well. Interior: new seat padding/covers on all seats (correct original material/pattern, new to excellent condition for all rubber floor mats, headliner in good original condition with no damage, dash pad has some cracks in fair condition, dash/gauges/original AM radio, switches, steering wheel are all in good working/appearance original condition, side panels are original in very good to excellent condition, modern sound system (radio unit, JVC KD-R200) hidden in glove compartment with custom Alpine speakers units (not mounted or changing the original surfaces) in the rear cargo area, spare tire with original plastic cover, original seat belts in good condition The Bus drives and handles well on all types of roads, from back country roads to the interstate. Part of the fun of a VW Bus is the driving experience. The driver's seat position is forward, with the large diameter steering wheel in a traditional horizontal bus angle. This classic micro bus design is perfect for the surfer, weekend fun, tailgate party, hauling stuff or that really cool soccer Mom. This is your chance to get a piece of the past when life was more care free! The VW Bus is being offered on other web sites and locally. We reserve the right to end the auction early. VW investigating Golf water leak discovered by car magazine
Sat, 07 Sep 2013Volkswagen is in a spat with German magazine Auto Bild over claims that its new, seventh-generation Golf may already need a recall. The German weekly reports that new Golfs can leak water into front-passenger footwells due to a faulty drainage tube in their air conditioning systems.
And while the fix itself doesn't sound too terrible, because Volkswagen bases so many cars off the same platform as the Golf, Auto Bild is claiming that 300,000 models could be affected, including the Audi A3 and Seat Leon. That's a very bold claim. For its part, VW is vehemently denying that number, according to Reuters, saying it's aware of the problem and claiming only 46 Golfs need fixing. In addition, it denies that any Audi or Seat models are affected by the issue.
Either way, regardless of how pervasive this leak issue is, North American buyers should rest easy knowing that the problems ought to get fixed by the time the Mk VII Golf finaly reaches our dealerships.
Bentley Bentayga bodies to be built in Bratislava
Sun, Apr 12 2015Volkswagen's plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, has come a long way. After getting its start in 1971 by subcontracting the production of Skoda-branded vehicles, the plant was purchased by VW in 1991, where it was quickly put to further good use as it began producing Volkswagen Passat models for export. More recently, Bratislava has become a bastion for SUVs, assembling the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, in addition to the VW Touareg. Color us unsurprised, then, to learn that the Bentley Bentayga, which will be built atop the same large SUV platform as its cousins from Audi, Porsche and VW, will also be used for at least part of the production of Bentley's first SUV. Surely, though, one of the hallmarks of the Bentley brand is that its cars are handmade in England. Won't the Bentley-buying populace feel slighted by production in Slovakia? Not to worry. As is the case with the Porsche Cayenne, all that will be produced in Slovakia is the Bentayga's body. According to a report from Automotive News, bodies for the Bentayga will be shipped from Bratislava to Crewe, England, where they will be finished into fully operational vehicles. In order to accommodate the additional work, VW will reportedly invest 500 million euros into the plant in Slovakia and hire hundreds of workers.
Don't buy that crossover! Buy a cladded wagon instead!
Fri, Nov 10 2017If you're looking to buy a car soon, and you're like most Americans, there's a strong chance you're considering buying a crossover SUV. That's what people want nowadays. People like the tough, tall exterior that suggests adventure and preparedness, they like the high seating position, they like the all wheel drive many have and they like the practicality. Because of this, crossovers have rapidly supplanted typical cars such as sedans, wagons, and more as the most popular vehicles in the country. But they're compromised, too. They're often heavy, thirsty, and expensive compared with more conventional cars. The good news is, there's an alternative, a happy medium between the straight crossover and the traditional car. They're lifted wagons, and they're the best crossover SUVs around. And for those who may not know what we're talking about, we're talking about cars and wagons that have been given a suspension lift for more ground clearance and a higher ride height, and often have all wheel drive standard or optional. They also usually have chunky plastic body cladding to make them look tough and durable. Examples include the Subaru Crosstrek, Audi A4 Allroad, Buick Regal TourX, and Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, among others. Because of the suspension and body modifications, these vehicles fit the trendy crossover mold quite well. And in the case of long-running nameplates such as the Subaru Outback and Volvo Cross Country models, they even have some heritage as outdoorsy machines. They also provide the higher driving position that crossover buyers love. And in some cases, such as with the Golf Alltrack, we've learned they offer better ride quality than their road-oriented siblings. View 9 Photos So these tall wagons offer the key things crossover buyers want, but what makes them better than traditional crossovers is that they have the advantages of the cars they're based on. For instance, the aforementioned Golf Alltrack still drives mostly like a Golf, which is to say, it's nimble, feels peppy, and is easy to maneuver because of its relatively small size. We can't really say the same for the Tiguan, which feels generally more sluggish and uninteresting than the Alltrack. And we mention Volkswagen's compact crossover because it starts at nearly the same price as the Alltrack. Some of the difference in giddy-up can be explained by weight. Normal crossovers can be fairly portly, while these lifted wagons are notably lighter.
