Your bidding on a California Black Plate 1966 Volkswagen Standard Microbus

It was Originally delivered in Sea Blue and Cumulus White, it has been repainted roughly 15 years ago in a different shade of blue and white .

The bus is pretty straight and not much rust, there is a dent on the front nose and there was some filler used when it was repainted .  The only rust that I can see is on the front floor where it was patched by 2nd to last owners prior to 2001, this patch was a amateur job and should be removed and done correctly. Also there are a few small isolated areas on the outside edge of rear floors close to inner rocker. Also a small area in the battery tray. Really the bus is pretty darn dry for it's age.

Last owner bought it in 2001 and did nothing but spend money on mechanics, she had a New engine installed at a cost of $ 3252.19 on July 12,2002 at mileage 29523 , she stopped driving the bus roughly 3 to 4 years back.  The current mileage is 46112, so it has roughly 16500 miles on this engine .  Prior to not driving it she also had New Brakes installed some years back, New steering box and one of the reduction box's rebuilt , along with the shift linkage rebuilt and a few other things . I believe new tie rods were installed and one thing past owner told me is that it needs a alignment... front tires are balding and evidence this .  Trans shifts up and down through all gears like it should .

We just checked the timing, adjusted the valves, bled and adjusted the brakes. the motor fires right off and sounds good and It has clean oil in it. The bus drives decent, but could use a few small things to improve it.  It has been converted to 12V and wipers are still 6V, lights work, brakelights work, horn works, right turnsignal is not working and neither are inside domelights. Even the gas gauge works !  There is a bunch of extra wires around up front from a previous old stereo system and what not.

I drove it around the corner to 711 and put $9.01 in it .  You will NEED a new battery however as this one is dead

The bus currently is not registered and last tags on plate are from 2010, I believe it is Non opt, but am not 100% sure on that.  If the bus is sold over seas the plate does not go with it.

Back seat is from a bay Window and center leg has been cut so it is sagging, a new headliner was installed by 2nd to last owners .  This was purchased by the last owner as a father and son project. When you look at the bus thats kinda the vibe I get, some things done, but really it needs much more work thrown at it to make it a better bus .

1 key does lock both front doors and back hatch, but not the cargo door.

A pretty decent bus in todays market that you can get in and drive and fix it up as you go .

Sold as Is , as in life No guarantees ...

International Shipping is not a problem , Port of Oakland is a hour away .

I have a Flickr link with 83 pics and 3 vids in it if you want to see more

BMW, Ferrari, VW cars use tungsten mined by terrorists

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bloomberg Markets is reporting that BMW, Volkswagen and Ferrari have been using tungsten ore sourced from Columbia's FARC rebel terrorists. The extensive story focuses on Columbia's illegal mining trade and calls into question the provenance of the rare ore that is used not only in crankshaft parts production, but is also found in the world's computing and telecommunications industry for use in screens.
The ore is mined by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army), and exported to Pennsylvania, where it is refined. The refined ore is then sent over to Austria, where a company called Plansee turns it into a finished product. Now, it's important to note that we aren't talking about the world's supply of tungsten here. In 2012, Plansee's American refinery purchased 93.2 metric tons of tungsten, valued at $1.8 million. That's peanuts, with the entire Colombian tungsten mining industry producing just one percent of the world's supplies.
That doesn't make indirectly supporting FARC any more acceptable, though. BMW, VW and Ferrari are all committed to not accepting mineral supplies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also in the grips of a guerrilla insurrection funded, in part, by illegal mining. The same commitment would figure to extend to Colombian mining, but as BMW points out, it's difficult for a multi-national manufacturer to know where every item in its supply chain comes from. A company spokesperson says as much, telling Bloomberg, "These few grams out of the billions of tons of raw materials passing through the BMW supply chain are of no practical relevance."

Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.

Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE concept previews new midsize CUV... again

Sun, Jan 11 2015

Volkswagen has taken a big step towards the long-awaited second model to be built at its Chattanooga, TN factory, introducing the two-row Cross Coupe GTE Concept at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. The relatively handsome two-row crossover borrows its basic styling language from the CrossBlue Concept that launched at the 2013 Detroit show (that we later had a brief chance to drive), and the CrossBlue Coupe from that year's Shanghai Motor Show. To be entirely frank, it just looks like a much more production-ready version of the Shanghai concept. The more aggressive elements of that model, like its rear taillights, rounded wheel arches, and aggressive front and rear fascias, have been toned down considerably. In other words, this concept almost wouldn't look out of place on the average road. Changes in the cabin are similarly minor, with the same basic design as the CrossBlue, complemented by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. While it's still quite clearly a concept car interior, it's not hard to imagine VW transitioning this cockpit into a production model. Riding atop the Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture – making it a relative, albeit distant, of cars like the VW Golf, Audi TT and the Euro-market Passat – the Cross Coupe GTE is motivated by a 3.6-liter VR6 that's been mated to not one, but two electric motors (one on each axle). The gas engine offers up 276 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the front axle's electric motor generates 54 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, and the rear can deliver a more robust 114 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque. That cacophony can be easily boiled down to this: the Cross Coupe GTE has a total system output of 355 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque, which is good enough to get the five-seater to 60 miles per hour in six seconds, on to a top speed of 130 miles per hour. As a plug-in hybrid, though, there's more to the Cross Coupe GTE then just its power output. Range plays a big role, and in that regard, this concept is fairly average. It can cover 20 miles when its 14.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery is charged up. Beyond that, the drivetrain can be set to a number of modes to optimize the behavior of plug-in-hybrid powertrain. In E-Mode, which can be locked in via a battery hold/battery charge mode, all 20 miles of range are available, although the Cross Coupe's driver will only have the 114-hp rear axle electric motor to work with.
