73 Vw Camper With Pop Up Roof on 2040-cars
Clemson, South Carolina, United States
Here are some quick need-to-knows about this vehicle: This 73 VW Van is in good running condition. The engine has been recently rebuilt and she's purring like a kitten! The heads need to be retightened in about 200 miles. The mileage is most likely much higher than the odometer reading, since it only goes up to 99,999. The front seats are not original, but they are in great shape, no tears. The back seats have been re-upholstered and are in great shape as well. There is a hook-up for a sink. Surface rust on rocker panels as well as under back side windows. Surface rust under floor panels in back and in front on driver and passenger side. Small area on driver's side where floor panel is rusted through. Rocker panel, floor panel and track for sliding door bent from previous accident. Panel under passenger door and floor next to sliding door have been filled in with bondo due to accident. Minor dent on rear door and little back panel. Front and rear bumpers are dented. Floor panels in back could not be accessed from the top due to several layers of flooring. Handle on bench storage access door missing. Canvas on pop up roof is torn. Fiberglass roof is bent slightly out of shape on passenger side. Exterior paint is patchy due to being sprayed with different types of orange spray paint. The horn has been installed as a floor switch. The paneling is a little worn and could stand some paint.
With a little tender love and care and a cosmetic overhaul this would be a great camper!

Next-gen Volkswagen Golf R spied while running the 'Ring
Tue, 16 Apr 2013The launch of a new Volkswagen Golf is never a small thing, and things are already looking up for the subcompact hatchback after it was named 2013 World Car of the Year. While we've already seen the base and GTI versions of the next-generation Golf, now we're getting our first look at the sportier Golf R.
Although this prototype wears GTI lettering on the front fenders, it's more than just the roll cage and Sparco racing seat hinting that this is something a little more serious. Unlike the Golf and GTI, this car shows that the Golf R will continue to flaunt massive air intakes on each side of the fascia, and the rear of the car (though it's hard to see) has quadruple exhaust outlets. We still don't have an official word on power, but rumors indicate that the next Golf R could be pushing close to 300 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Golf ever. As much fun as we had during our first drive of the Golf R Cabriolet in the cold, snowy French Riviera last month, more power is a warming idea.
Which car should win 2015 World Green Car of the Year?
Wed, Apr 1 2015There were three finalists for the World Green Car of the Year announced about a month ago at the Geneva Motor Show: the BMW i8, the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-In Hybrid and the Volkswagen Golf GTE. With the New York Auto Show upon us and the winner scheduled to be announced tomorrow, we thought it's high time to ask our readers which one should win. There were seven other vehicles named to the finalists list: the Hyundai x35/Tucson Fuel Cell, the Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine, the Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron, the BMW X5 xDrive40e, the Kia Soul EV, the Nissan e-NV200 and the Opel Adam 1.0 Direct Injection Turbo ecoFLEX Start. Would you have named one of these to the top three list instead? POLL 14386429 Green BMW Mercedes-Benz Volkswagen 2015 ny auto show world green car of the year vw golf gte
Brazil contemplates safety exemption for VW Kombi as it goes out of production today [w/poll]
Tue, 31 Dec 2013Brazil: the country of carnivals, indescribable beauty adjacent to abject poverty, Ayrton Senna and old Volkswagen models. Only they're not old - they're new, they're just based on old designs. The original Beetle continued production there long after it had been phased out elsewhere, but the original Kombi van has lasted much longer. That ends today, however, with the iconic VW Microbus ambling out of production on the last day of 2013.
VW kept making the van in Brazil with the original air-cooled 1.2-liter boxer four until 2005, after which the original design was updated with a 1.4-liter water-cooled engine. Today, however, it ultimately falls prey to safety regulations that mandate that all vehicles - no matter how old their design - need to have airbags and ABS, forcing Volkswagen do Brasil to cease production of the Microbus after a 56-year production run. But the latest word is that the Kombi (as it's presently known) could get a stay of execution - or at least a resurrection in short order.
According to reports, the Brazilian government is looking into granting the Type 2 Microbus an exemption from said safety regulations, reasoning that the van was designed long before the advent of airbags and ABS. If the measure goes through, the Kombi Last Edition (pictured above) could prove not to be the last at all. So what do you think, should the Microbus get an exemption from Brazilian safety regulations for nostalgia's sake? Vote in our poll below, then have your say in Comments.
