I have decided to sell the all original 1991 Westfalia that my kids and I were going to camp in this summer. I bought it a few months ago in Washington and drove it home. I need to sell it to pay some debt off. I have a '79 Riviera in the home stretch of a preservation resto, so don't feel sorry for the kiddos, we will camp! I have replaced some little odds and ends, including skylight, skylight knob, skylight seal, all four small plastic hubcaps (2 were missing.) The front table was missing so I ordered one along with one knob. All parts were ordered from Gowesty. This Westy runs and drives great. The 2.1 with auto trans really pushes it down the road just fine, in my opinion it has plenty of power. In fact, in comparison to the automatic bay windows i have driven it really scoots. It shifts as it should and there are no funky noises. No leaks either, not counting a slight trans fluid leak that is coming from the fitting in the pan where the dipstick tube goes in, which should be an easy fix. It hasnt leaked enough since ive owned it to even register lower on the stick. The engine leaves zero oil on the ground and does not smoke at all. Runs quiet and smooth. Will need a catalytic converter/ muffler at some point. It isn't loud, but there is some noise coming from the catalytic converter, which means that some of the platinum inside has broken loose. Common and a bolt-on, but worth mentioning. Previous owner claimed the engine had a piston/cylinder rebuild at about 120k. It sure runs like new but I have no proof of this. As far as equipment goes, here is the rundown: Fridge works on propane, 110 and 12v. Stove works great, both burners Pump for sink does not work, either the switch is bad or the small inexpensive submersible pump needs replaced. Canvas on pop top is very good except a section in the rear that was "left outside" when top was put down. I chose not to replace as it could be repaired and kept original if new owner prefers. What this Westy has going for it is a super carfax, original paint, which means that what you see is what you get, unlike some of the "fully restored" vans that are sometimes offered. Meaning it hasn't been messed with, which is the way to buy a used vehicle. This is not perfect or restored, it is however well kept and all original which speaks volumes. I welcome and prefer phone calls from serious bidders. This van has a clean WA title and the carfax looks to show 4 owners, if I'm reading it right. Please call with any questions and personal inspection is welcome if prospective buyers are near or willing to come to Coos Bay, Oregon. Shipping is to be secured and financed by new owner. Thank you for taking the time to review my add, and good luck if you decide to bid! This van is ready to do some serious camping this summer! Matt 541-294-6911

VW makes $23K on every Porsche sold, more than Bentley or Lamborghini

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

It's a good time to be in the luxury car business. In Volkswagen Group's financial report for the 2013 fiscal year, it is revealed that that Porsche enjoyed an operating margin of 18 percent. That means the Stuttgart brand made on average about $23,200 per car sold, according to BusinessWeek. Bentley wasn't far behind, and Audi (which was combined with Lamborghini) posted a 10.1 percent margin. This compares to only around 2.9 percent for the Volkswagen brand.
"Luxury brands are on fire," said Dave Sullivan, an industry analyst at AutoPacific. He said that the average profit margin is between six and eight percent. Brands like Porsche and Bentley have the benefit of competing in rarefied markets. Buyers looking at one their vehicles have fewer models to shop against and don't care as much about price. They can also charge more for options, which further boosts income, according to BusinessWeek.
In a way, we should be more impressed by the continued success from Audi. Its models generally have direct competitors in every segment from the other premium automakers. Plus, their buyers aren't the captains of industry who are shopping for a Bentley. Still, the Four Rings is leading rivals in sales so far this year.

FCA to pay buyers $1,700 to swap out of scandal-mired VWs

Tue, Oct 6 2015

FCA is trying to gain some sales from arch-rival VW in the competitive European market by offering potential buyers in Italy up to $1,700 to swap into an FCA group car. While the promotion isn't specifically targeted at TDI owners affected by the emissions scandal, it is clearly intended to turn dissatisfaction with VW's defeat device cheat into additional sales, Bloomberg reports. The 500-1,500 euro incentive (roughly $560-1,700, depending on vehicle) stacks on top of any other rebates or deals applicable, and applies if a buyer brings in any of Volkswagen Group's cars – including Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, among (many) others. As Bloomberg notes, it's normal for automakers to offer "conquest" deals – giving a buyer cash for trading in a competitor's vehicle. Those deals aren't usually limited to one company's products, however; FCA's program looks specifically to take advantage of VW's legal and public relations nightmare. FCA isn't the only automaker trying this trick in Italy. Automotive News Europe also reported that Ford is offering approximately $840 in incentives across its entire range to owners of VW vehicles seeking to trade in for a Ford. No word of yet as to whether these incentives will spread beyond Italy or to other automakers.Related Video:

VW previews huge screens, gesture control with Golf R Touch Concept at CES

Tue, Jan 6 2015

Volkswagen is showing off the future of infotainment and connected driving at CES 2015 with a fleet of concepts that highlight its latest technology. According to its displays, the coming years might mean gesture-based vehicle controls and electric cars that drive themselves to find their own charging locations. VW's biggest debut at CES is its next-gen infotainment system, dubbed MIB II. The setup supports a wide array of smartphone integration standards, including MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, to make sure that practically every smartphone user can pair the device's interface with the vehicle. Beyond just keeping occupants entertained, MIB II offers a system called Regular Routes that detects traffic along the driver's regular commute to work and suggests alternatives. The Parking Guide also helps find parking spots that are likely open. If MIB II represents the near future of VW infotainment, then the technology on the Golf R Touch Concept is the next step from there. It takes the brand's hot hatch and adds support for gesture controls inside, plus a trio of massive infotainment screens. This R features a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, an 8-inch screen below it for things like the climate control and switching media and a customizable 12.3-inch display that digitizes the instrument panel. A camera in front of the central display waits for the driver's hands to make specific movements that activate various vehicle functions. Despite all of the potentially distracting screens, VW says the system offers control without requiring a look away from the road. VW hopes the technology reduces driver distraction and creates a closer relationship with the car. Another of the German automaker's big tech showcases is an e-Golf that demonstrates the potential future of both electric and semi-autonomous driving. This version can be charged inductively, rather than through a traditional power cord, and the exterior lights show when the vehicle is fully recharged. It's also equipped with the e-Station Guide that helps drivers find a charging location and tells them about the payment options there. This e-Golf's other major innovation is VW's Trained Parking system. A camera at the front scans the route to a parking space, and if the driver returns later, then the process can be done semi-automatically.
