1989 VW Wolfsburg Weekender Camper equiped with 1 rear jump seat, folding dining table, dining light, cruise control, power windows, privacy curtain behind front seats, sleeps 2, and with a one-of-a-kind vinyl wrap to make this van an eye-stopper.  I am the second owner and it was purchased in 1991 in Seattle, WA.  The van is currently in Green Bay, WI.  I have all of the service records that include the following work:  transmission, differential, seals, gaskets, gear, headlights, PS pump, oil coiler, brakes, windshield, shocks, A/C conversion kit 2011, belts, water pump, suspension, tires, bushings, repainting nicks, and routine maintenence.  We had a problem with the engine stalling and finally found out in 2007 that we needed to install an additional engine part and we have not had a problem since. The car was always maintained extremely well and we never smoked.   The oil was changed every 2000 miles and it was nearly always garaged.  I did not intend to sell it until I lost my place to park it due to selling my Mother's farm in WI.  Last year we put in a new Sirius XM radio and new sound system.  The carpet for the front was custom ordered and protects the near perfect original carpeting.  There are some minor imperfections in the rug near the back bench and there are minor scrapes in the vinyl.  The weekender bed is very comfortable and roomy and the car handles six people with seat belts and hauls a lot of cargo.  The engine is in excellent shape and the body is also in exceptional condition. I have the original radio and speakers plus extras for safety and camping that will go with the van.    If you want a fun car that people stop and take pictures, this is the vehicle for you.  The back says:  Life is an echo---what you send out is what you get back.  The sides say:  "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do rather than the things that you did.  So, throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbor.  Catch the trade winds in your sails.  Explore.... Dream... Discover".  You will love owning this bus.

Terms and Conditions:  Serious bidders please.   If you are the high bidder when the auction ends, you are the new owner.  I am selling this car as is, with not implied warranties or responsibility for repair once the car has been paid for.  Seller reserves the right to end this auction early for any reason.  All inspections must be completed before the completion of the auction, otherwise it is assumed the item is to be accepted without an inspection.

Shipping is the winner's responsibility.  I will assist you any way that I can if possible.

To solve diesel problem, VW might need two fixes

Fri, Oct 2 2015

Volkswagen says that a fix is on the way for its 11 million vehicles around the globe that are equipped with diesel engine software that can evade emissions tests. The problem might be far more complicated than simply creating a single solution for all of them, though. According to Automotive News citing Reuters, two remedies to cover different NOx-reducing systems could be necessary, and both potentially affect performance. Earlier examples of the EA 189 diesel engine used a lean NOx trap to reduce the harmful material coming from the tailpipe. According to experts in the Automotive News report, a software update might allow the engines to achieve compliance, but that could affect fuel economy. VW already tried this route once before the scandal came to light, but tests by the California Air Resources Board still showed the figures were too high. Later, some of the 2.0 TDI engines began using Selective Catalytic Reduction that reduced NOx by injecting a urea solution into the exhaust stream. According to Automotive News, a software update for this equipment might increase the amount of the substance used. Not only would that mean topping up the fluid more often, but there still could be some reduction in fuel economy. But, since the 2-liter, 4-cylinder TDI engine that sits inside the diesel vehicles first mentioned as being affected by the issue in the US don't have a urea treatment system, VW would need to install them into these cars. VW still hasn't officially outlined its solution (or solutions) to the emissions issue but is expected to soon. The automaker's long-term evasion of regulations with these diesel engines pumped vast quantities of additional NOx into the air. The substance is known to be linked with smog and acid rain. The US Department of Justice is already beginning an investigation into the company, and politicians are pushing for harsh punishments.

How should Volkswagen deal with its diesel problems?

Mon, Sep 21 2015

The hounds of hell are bearing down on Volkswagen in the wake of allegations of cheating on diesel emissions testing. In just a single day, Volkswagen's stock has dropped 23 percent and the German government has announced that it is going to investigate a far larger number of vehicles over emissions violations. The American storm is quickly becoming a global one. Volkswagen sells over a million diesel vehicles a year and also has more than 13 percent of the automotive market overall – it was the number one automaker in the world up until the scandal. Yet in a matter of hours, Volkswagen has also become a pariah with potential fines and recalls that may be dwarfed by how the alleged lies and deceit change how governments and consumers view the company. Consumers are really going to be the key to the company's survival. It's those consumers who are really going to be the key to the company's survival. Every single one of them now finds themselves with a product that was sold illegally and may not be registered until recall work is done. What's worse is that Volkswagen doesn't yet have a solution for the emissions issue to offer these customers. It should also be noted that this is not the first time Volkswagen has found itself in violation of EPA emission regulations. Volkswagen is in a world of trouble, so what now? As a car dealer and former financial analyst who took several companies public, I believe Volkswagen can and should consider three points of action that would make an enduring difference in the times to come. 1. Offer affected TDI owners a compelling reason to stay with the brand. Recall work and a cup of coffee at the dealership are not going to be enough to placate current owners. Volkswagen should provide compensation for customers at the earliest opportunity and offer some type of inducement that keeps them within the fold. This shouldn't be the industry's version of a Chuck E. Cheese coupon - a small discount on a new vehicle. Volkswagen needs to offer something along the lines of a strong warranty extension of the entire powertrain (not just the emissions system) or some type of valuable feature upgrade for these vehicles so that owners feel that they have been treated fairly. Perhaps a combination of a brand new navigation system, software upgrades for the infotainment components, or some type of basic free WiFi service would be a healthy act of generosity.

The hottest modern sports cars rendered as rally racers

Thu, Jan 14 2016

The modern-day World Rally Championship a monumental amount of fun to watch – I should know, as I recently was lucky enough to head to the UK to watch WRC Wales Rally GB – but even the most monstrous of the current WRC cars are based on fairly pedestrian European hatchbacks. Back in the heyday of rally, the Group B era in the 1980s, much hotter cars were the basis of even more incredible competition machines, for the most part. Take the exotic Ford RS200, or the Lancia Delta S4 with its twin-charged engine. And the hatchback-based Group B cars were bonkers, too. So what would some of our favorite modern cars look like if Group B had never ended? A British site named CarWow hired an artist to reimagine everything from the Rolls-Royce Wraith to the Porsche 911 as a retro-inspired rally car, and they were kind enough to let us share the results in the gallery above. The gallery features an Alfa Romeo Giulia in Martini livery, an Audi TT in classic Ur-Quattro colors, a Fiat 500 Abarth sporting massive flares and a hood blister full of auxiliary lights, a new Ford Mustang in RS200 livery, a Lancia Delta in Alitalia colors, a Porsche 911 in Rothmans livery, a Renault-Alpine in classic blue, a Rolls-Royce Wraith tribute to the Jules cologne Corniche Coupe, and a relatively modern-looking VW Touran. So far, the favorite around the office is the incredible Mercedes-Benz S-Class that is an homage to the wonderful 300 SEL 6.8 AMG "Red Pig" that essentially put AMG on the map. Check out the gallery above and see which one you like the best. Related Video:
