1987 Volkswagen Syncro Westfalia Camper, Vw 4x4, Westy on 2040-cars

Year:1986 Mileage:168500
Location:

South Point, Ohio, United States

South Point, Ohio, United States

For your consideration is my 1986 syncro westy. 1986 was the first year for the syncro camper and this is a very nice example. Over all it is very complete and tastefully upgraded. Upgrades include a Fiamma Awning, yakima rack, Old Man Emu Shocks front and rear, as well as lift springs. South African wheels (5) has a a matching spare! Also the propane tank is a newer replacement and it also has the gray water tank underneath as well.

Over the years the vehicle was well maintained and cared for. I have a folder of receipts an inch thick detailing everything that has been done to the van over the year. The tent has been replaced as well but shows some fading on one side it also has a patch in the rear most corner behind the hinge.

The interior is nice and all camper pieces are present including both table, as well as the rare port o potty cabinet! It will need a new sink faucet

Originally this van didn't come with AC but has dealer installed in dash and rear Behr ac units (needs charged)! Heat blows HOT! HOT! HOT! this also means you get a storage cabinet over the rear bed that most campers do not have!

Motor is the factory 2.1, and has recently had the head gaskets replaced.. Also at this time the clutch slave cylinder was replaced and the rear brakes were completely rebuilt, the water pump was just recently replaced. Engine runs good, it was just discovered it has a bad 02 sensor and a new one is being ordered so that can be changed out. Its currently running with the 02 sensor unplugged and is going up and down the road nicely!

Overall the body is in good condition it does have a bit of the typical westy rust on the lower rocker on the drivers side, as well as a few spots by the window seals. Accident free though with no signs of repair or damage has a older paint job that still shines up and is nicely presentable. Underside is DRY DRY DRY very clean and has not seen much winter driving over the years.

Trans is the factory 5 speed with a working rear locker! Shifts smoothly through all gears, again no leaks or anything of that nature.

Please let me know if you have any questions

I have the vehicle for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.

Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.

VW makes $9.2B offer for rest of truckmaker Scania

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Volkswagen owns or has controlling interests in three commercial truck operations: besides its own, VW began buying shares in Sweden's Scania in 2000 and now controls 89.2 percent of its shares and 62.6 percent of its capital, then bought into Germany's Man in 2006 - in order to prevent Man from trying to take over Scania - and now owns 75 percent of it. The car company has managed to work out 200 million euros in savings, but believes it can unlock a total of 650 million euros in savings if it takes outright control of Scania and can spread more common parts among the three divisions.
It has proposed a 6.7-billion-euro ($9.2 billion) buyout, but according to a Bloomberg report, Scania's minority investors don't appear inclined to the deal. Although effectively controlled by VW, Scania is an independently-listed Swedish company, and a profitable one at that: in the January-September 2013 period its operating profit was 9.4 percent compared to Man's 0.4 percent. Some of the other shareholders believe that Scania is better off on its own and will not approve the deal, some have asked an auditor to look into the potential conflict of interest between VW and Man, while some are willing to examine the deal and "make an evaluation based on what a long-term owner finds is good," which might not be just "the stock market price plus a few percent." The buyout will only be official assuming VW can reach the 90-percent share threshold that Swedish law mandates for a squeeze-out.
Many of the arguments against boil down to investors believing that Scania's Swedishness and unique offerings are what keep it profitable, and ownership by the German car company will kill that. (Have we heard that somewhere before?) If Volkswagen can buy that additional 0.8-percent share in Scania, perhaps its buyout wrangling with Man will give it an idea of what it's in for: "dozens" of minority investors in the German truckmaker have filed cases against VW, seeking higher prices for their shares. It is likely only to delay the inevitable, though. If VW is really going to compete with Daimler and Volvo in the truck market, it has to get the size, clout and savings to do so.

Translogic 164: Driving the fuel cell vehicles of the 2014 LA Auto Show

Wed, Nov 26 2014

The LA Auto Show is known for its environmentally friendly vehicle debuts. At last year's show, hydrogen fuel cell concepts from Honda and Toyota joined a lease-ready Hyundai Tucson FCEV to cast a green hue over the convention center. This year, automakers took us a step closer to a fuel cell future by offering drives of their hydrogen-electric hybrids. Translogic host Jonathon Buckley takes a ride in the Toyota Mirai, which is headed for production in 2016. He follows that with a spin in the Volkswagen Passat HyMotion and the Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro concept. Which of these fuel cell vehicles holds the most promise? Tune in to find out.
