1986 Volkswagen Factory Westfalia Camper Vanagon on 2040-cars

Year:1986 Mileage:91192
Location:

Medford, Oregon, United States

Medford, Oregon, United States

We purchased this Vanagon in the year 2002 with 22,000 original miles on it. We have traveled Mexico, beaches of California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, San Juan Islands and Canada--All road miles were trouble free and very enjoyable and memorable. Our age (60's) has required us to step up to a larger motorhome with more creature comforts to continue our extended camping adventures.

Tires have less than 12,000 miles and have been rotated properly. Front brakes approximately 70%. Oil has been changed religiously on time with Castrol GTX.

We installed a Pioneer AM/FM Super Tuner CD player.

Propane tank fill valve updated.

Locking gas cap.

On 3-31-2013: Air-Conditioner was recharged and serviced, all 3 drive belts replaced with Gates Drive Belts. Along with these receipts a vehicle inspection sheet was complete at the same time and will be provided along with the factory sticker invoice and original dealer Buyer's Invoice, original Volkswagen Owners Manual, original Factory Camper Owners manual, original Volkswagen Gasoline Engine Maintenance Manual, the 1986 USA models Volkswagen Warranty, Dometic Refrigerator Model  RM 182B Van Fridge manual, Range Counter Unit Type 113.1 manual,  Dometic Factory Authorized Service Centers for Refrigerators, Generators and Air Conditioners and limited warranty. We have all the receipts from prior owner for parts and repairs, plus we have all the receipts for parts and maintenance that we have done.

For all practical purposes, this camper has been trouble free and a joy to travel in and we hope the new owner will have as much enjoyment we have had over the last 12 years.

The Vanagen was purchased in 2002 with 22,000 original miles.  At 40,000 miles the speedometer began to act up. We had Ray's Speedometer in Grants Pass repair it. it went another 28,000 miles putting it at 68,000 miles. At that time the speedmeter began acting up again, so we purchased a new speedometer from Go Westy in Los Osos, California (which is the best source for Volkswagen parts on the west Coast). We will include a 2006 Go Westy Catalog.

Editors' Choice: Top Five 2013 Geneva Motor Show Debuts

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

We've returned from a very busy week in Switzerland, and in going back over all of our 75 stories from the Geneva Motor Show, our editors have gathered up their personal favorite debuts from the European expo.
The wonderful thing about the Geneva show is just how wide of an array of vehicles are on display - everything from funny little one-off EVs to the most exotic of supercars to, well, truly ridiculous displays of coachbuilding. And because of that, this list of our editors' favorites might not be as predictable as you think.
But we don't want to give anything away just yet. Scroll down to have a look at our team's favorites from Geneva.

Are more diesel scandals about to erupt?

Fri, Nov 20 2015

More automakers may soon be embroiled, like Volkswagen, in diesel emissions scandals. According to the Daily Kanban, either the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) or the Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) will soon announce from 10 to 15 more cases of automakers cheating national diesel emissions rules. The outlet says three of the incidents are attributed to Opel. Studies conducted by the DUH, the University of Applied Sciences in Bern, Switzerland, and the UK's Leeds University found that Opel's diesel Zafira, Corsa, and Vectra models emit more NOx than European regulations allow when tested in ways that go beyond the European testing protocol, such as when done on a four-wheel rolling road instead of a two-wheel rolling road. Opel said the accusations had no merit. Specifically on the Zafira, the DUH asked Opel about the emissions findings, and Opel said that no General Motors software contains any measures to enable cheating. Opel then tested a Zafira of its own "both on a two- and a four-wheel roller dynamometer," finding that "The emission behavior determined in each case does not differ from one another." That makes this a case of he-said-she-said for the moment. The Daily Kanban's sources say the cheating methods "range from the crude to the highly sophisticated," with those at the latter end complex enough to render Volkswagen's methods "pedestrian." As for any automakers who might be named, the matter of real-world emissions exceeding a legal limit doesn't mean a carmaker has designed systems that cheat, it might mean the company designed the car to pass a test. Volkswagen Multivan Alltrack Concept takes the luxury van life off road

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Volkswagen dug into its commercial vehicle fleet for its latest Geneva Motor Show concept, blending the versatile body of the T5 MultiVan with a luxuriously appointed interior, 4Motion all-wheel drive and a thrifty diesel powertrain.
That 177-horsepower diesel engine routes its power to the AWD system through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Based on that alone, we'd expect the Multivan Alltrack's behind-the-wheel experience to be somewhat familiar. That all-wheel-drive system and van body contribute to the 21-degree approach and 15-degree departure angles of this soft-roading MultiVan.
What wouldn't be familiar is its exquisite cabin. Volkswagen opted for a nautical theme for the concept's interior, featuring grey-blue leather seats from Poltrona Frau and a floor finished in real wood. The dark wood trim can also be found throughout the interior, running below the windows and on the dash.
