1982 Vw Westfalia Campmobile on 2040-cars
San Luis Obispo, California, United States
VIN: WV2ZA0251CH109555
This lovely 1982 VW Westfalia has been a joyous part of my life since January 2009. Before that a grandmother had it for camping with her grandkids, and used it for short distance leisure trips. She starts right up and runs beautifully! All work since I have been the owner has been done by Westy Werks in SLO. They are the great! There are some minor cosmetic dings/scratches, and the back right taillight cover needs to be replaced (easy to do yourself), but light works fine. The Mechanics: • 139,238 miles on a beautifully rebuilt engine (I do not know mileage from previous engine, but have received lots of compliments on the current one) • Smog tested within the year, and received exceptional idle and 2500 RPM emission test results • 4-speed manual • Brand new gas tank cap • Battery replaced 9/2012 • Newly replaced hinges for back hatch • Newly replaced ignition switch ($40), Bosch fuel pump ($235), Bosch fuel filter, & fuel injection hose • Registered until September 2014 Get Campin': • Sink, stove, and fridge in great condition and have all been recently tested ($95 inspection from Westy Werks) • Plastic plateware • Two tables • Captain's chairs (swivel mechanisms) • Two beds (one folds out of the backseat, the other is in the pop top) • Pop top canvas in great condition • Upholstery in great condition • Several storage cabinets and a closet • Complete curtain set, with additional privacy curtains when parked and camping Serious inquiries only. Thanks! |

Volkswagen Routan dead, pour out a sippy cup for your little homies
Thu, 28 Mar 2013America's minivan wolfpack has just gotten smaller by one. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen officials have confirmed what we've suspected for some time - the Routan is dead. Essentially a lightly reworked version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Routan actually hasn't been rolling off of Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario production line at all this year, but VW had yet to confirm its discontinuation. However, Jonathan Browning, CEO of VW America, has reportedly admitted that the Routan is being axed, with remaining units expected to be funneled into corporate functions for "internal purposes."
The move isn't unexpected - the Routan has never been a big seller, with just 57,650 examples moved since sales began in 2008 - peak yearly sales totaled under 16,000 units, and that was back in 2010. And while many have talked of the minivan segment shrinking, Automotive News points out that the segment actually grew 14 percent last year to 597,118 units, though it should be noted that most segments have been on sales upticks as the US economy chugs out of its recession.
So, is volume-crazy Volkswagen prepared to pass on large family vehicle sales? Probably not - the German automaker has signaled that it plans to build a three-row crossover in North America soon, and we wouldn't be surprised if it looks an awful lot like the Crossblue Concept from January's Detroit Auto Show - minus the fancy plug-in diesel powertrain.

Next-gen Volkswagen Golf R spied while running the 'Ring
Tue, 16 Apr 2013The launch of a new Volkswagen Golf is never a small thing, and things are already looking up for the subcompact hatchback after it was named 2013 World Car of the Year. While we've already seen the base and GTI versions of the next-generation Golf, now we're getting our first look at the sportier Golf R.
Although this prototype wears GTI lettering on the front fenders, it's more than just the roll cage and Sparco racing seat hinting that this is something a little more serious. Unlike the Golf and GTI, this car shows that the Golf R will continue to flaunt massive air intakes on each side of the fascia, and the rear of the car (though it's hard to see) has quadruple exhaust outlets. We still don't have an official word on power, but rumors indicate that the next Golf R could be pushing close to 300 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Golf ever. As much fun as we had during our first drive of the Golf R Cabriolet in the cold, snowy French Riviera last month, more power is a warming idea.
