Uprated 009 transmission from a later model Vanagon along with late model shifter equipped with short throw shift kit and leather knob. 15" Alloy wheels with Vanco tires (D load rated proper for this weight) with approx 50% life still. Within the last 3 years its had new shocks, all new brakes, and ball joints. Brand new fuel pump. Fuel tank has new crossover kit and grommets. South African Grill w/ Halogen head lights. Headlight relay kit installed. CD player w/Ipod hook up Custom dash caddy Extra gauges Two auxiliary batteries installed under back seat (Optima). Front seats have new upholstery and padding. Cabinets rebuilt with butcher block tops. Wood laminate floor. Propane tank Propane heater (never used by us so unsure of its condition...its clean though) Water and waste tanks. Sink, two burner stove and AC/DC fridge. Nice fold out bed. Custom curtains with lining. LED interior lights Ample storage above cab Second bed in upper area. Nice Awning Runs excellent (was just driven from Southern California to Washington State and back after the rebuild) High mounted taillights for tailgaters! Featured in the book "VW Camper Cookbook Rides Again" A new copy will be included with the sale. The Bad: Original paint. It still holds a shine but is showing its age. Its getting thin in parts and has scratches and dings as its been used to camp and go on numerous family trips. No rust but lots of character. Vinyl stripes and decals are sun cracked and shrunk. You could easily live with this and preserve it by keeping it waxed and or covered. If you want a show car it will have to be repainted. The engine: As I have said it was recently rebuilt using a aftermarket performance camshaft from SCAT. The engine runs terrific and the cam gave it that extra bit of power it needed for hills. The problem is when it came time to smog it here in California it wouldnt pass because of it. The new owner will have to be someone in a state with less stringent smog laws or someone that wouldn't mind swapping it out for a stock spec cam (which is all it would need). We have decided not to do the work as we are ready to move on to a bigger RV. The Vanagon has a clear title and the registration fees have been paid up to date. The Vanagon will be sold in AS-IS condition with NO warranty implied or given. All shipping arrangements and expenses to be made by the buyer. Payment to be made by either cash in person , certified bank check , or bank transfer. Title will be held till all funds clear. Pay-Pal to be used for deposit ONLY. Feel free to ask questions or if your local and would like to see it in person contact me to make arrangements. |

Volkswagen completes design work on new EV platform
Tue, Jan 10 2017Volkswagen has completed the design work for its modular, MEB platform that's geared specifically for electric-vehicle production, Automotive News Europe says, citing comments Volkswagen development head Frank Welsch made at CES in Las Vegas last week. Additionally, VW's Skoda and Seat divisions may use that platform for their own plug-in vehicle models. VW's Audi division is also considering employing the platform, though adoption by Volkswagen's Porsche unit is unlikely. VW expects to start selling its first model specifically designed as an EV (i.e., not converted from existing conventional models such as the Golf and Up!) by 2020. Welsch added that the MEB platform may be used as a base for updated electrified versions of Golf, Tiguan, and Passat. Meanwhile, Skoda will debut as many as five plug-in models by 2025. Europe's largest automaker is looking to further distance itself from the 2015 scandal that involved software that cheats diesel-emissions testing efforts and has cost the company more than $15 billion in US settlements alone. All told, VW and its divisions expect to debut as many as 30 plug-in vehicle models within the next decade. Volkswagen unveiled its I.D. concept vehicle, which is based on the MEB platform and looks somewhat like the BMW i3 electric-vehicle model, at last year's Paris Motor Show. VW said at the time that the vehicle could go as far as 373 miles on a single charge. Additionally, VW will show off an electric SUV concept model at this year's Shanghai Auto Show, and is unveiling a microbus version of the I.D. concept at the Detroit Auto Show this month. Trump reportedly says he wants to wipe German cars off the U.S. map
Thu, May 31 2018BERLIN/FRANKFURT — A report that U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to pursue German carmakers until there are no Mercedes-Benz rolling down New York's Fifth Avenue dented shares in the luxury car manufacturers on Thursday. An excerpt from German magazine Wirtschaftswoche's article, which cited several unnamed European and U.S. diplomats but did not include any direct quotes, could not be independently verified, while a U.S. Embassy spokesman in Berlin referred questions to Washington. The news and current affairs magazine said Trump had told French President Emmanuel Macron in April that he aimed to push German carmakers out of the United States altogether. Macron's administration in Paris declined to comment on the report. The Trump administration last week opened a so-called Section 232 trade investigation into vehicle imports, which could result in a 25 percent tariff on cars on the same "national security" grounds Washington used to impose metals duties in March. This could destroy exports by German carmakers, which control 90 percent of the U.S. premium market and are the biggest European Union exporters of cars to the United States. BMW owns Rolls-Royce, while Daimler has Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen controls Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche and Audi. Daimler, BMW and Audi declined comment. Porsche was not immediately available for comment. BMW shares were trading 0.5 percent lower at 0939 GMT, while Daimler and VW's shares were down 1 percent and 1.6 percent respectively, underperforming Germany's blue-chip DAX. Trump has railed against German carmakers before. And in early 2017, in an interview with German newspaper Bild, he said he would impose 35 percent tariffs on imported cars. At the time, the president called Germany a great car producer but said that the business relationship with the United States was an unfair one-way street. Germany's auto industry association VDA says its members exported 657,000 vehicles to North America last year, with total exports of vehicle components, cars, engines, as well as second-hand vehicles totaling 31.2 billion euros in 2016. Imports from the United States to Germany amounted to 7.4 billion euros, meaning a trade deficit of 23.8 billion euros the VDA's latest available figures show. However, German brands also have huge factories in the United States, where they built 804,000 cars last year, VDA said, providing jobs for U.S. workers. Berlin has reacted angrily to the U.S.
VW Golf GTI wrung out by Chris Harris
Thu, 27 Jun 2013Enthusiasts like nothing more than to crucify modern interpretations of their favorite performance models for failing to live up to some imagined ethos. Even the Volkswagen GTI has suffered its fair share of slings and arrows for growing in size and curb weight. Chris Harris recently spent some time with the all-new MK VII GTI to find out if growing up means giving up on what makes the machine so special.
Judging by his comments, Harris certainly doesn't think so. Yes, the new GTI is considerably more comfortable than its predecessors, but that's hardly a bad thing. The multitude of driving modes actually seem to add depth to the car rather than simply try to force one tool to do many jobs, and Harris even finds the machine's electronic power steering tolerable. As a result, Harris goes so far as to call the Volkswagen GTI "one of the best cars to actually own." How's that for high praise? You can watch the video for yourself by scrolling below.
