1982 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia Camper Van, Diesel on 2040-cars
Fairview, North Carolina, United States
This van has been my baby for years, and now it is with a heavy heart that I must find her a great new home! Volkswagen only made the diesel version of this very popular camper for one year, so they are quite rare! The original stock engine was only 1.6 liters, and was woefully underpowered to run the vehicle. I have had a brand new 1.9 liter engine installed, and it has less than 2000 miles on it!!! It goes somewhat without saying that the attraction of the diesel engine is its ability to run on biodiesel, and the ease with which it could be converted to run on straight grease. The upgrade in power has really helped with speed on the highway and up steep grades. The engine has never smoked, it has no leaks, runs at just the right temp, and starts easily in the cold. Nearly all of the important mechanical components of the van have been replaced and upgraded. I have a pile of receipts from both myself and the previous owner, and the van has been recently serviced by the fine folks at Asheville Vee Dub here in North Carolina. They work exclusively on the repair and restoration of old Volkswagens, and really know their stuff. In all, it runs beautifully. In terms of the camping equipment, the stove and the sink work great, while the fridge has never functioned. All of the electrical stuff in the van has been fixed-sockets, lights, etc. There is an auxiliary battery installed under the front seat which allows you to run the electrical equipment while parked without draining the battery in the engine. This makes camping extremely comfortable and easy!! The pop-top is in decent shape-it is original, and has a few repaired tears. The mattresses are also original-they have some wear and tear but they’re completely comfortable and functional. The van is missing the front table that sits behind the driver’s seat, but the table that swings over the backseat is in great condition. The two front seats have a lot of wear in the upholstery, so I’ve covered the chairs with soft covers and I’ve always found it comfortable that way. If you’re interested in getting it back into mint condition, it would need a paint job, though the great news is that there is really no rust to speak of on the whole body of the vehicle. Rust is generally the kiss of death in these cars, so to have one with no rust is quite valuable. I have had some of the best times of my life in this van, with my boyfriend and his young son, on road trips, at festivals, camping, and just generally traveling together. It is very special to me, and I’ve made sure over the years that it’s gotten all of the attention it deserved. It is truly a rare find, and I hope that whomever drives away with it will feel the same way! So, without further ado, here’s the total rundown: -Brand new 1.9 liter Diesel Engine, less than 2000 miles!! -Brand new clutch, installed at the same time as the engine -4 Brand new tires, also less than 2000 miles -Radiator less than 3 years old -Alternator 1 year old -Brand new Starter -Stove and Sink run perfectly -Original stock radio with two old and two new speakers -GoWesty Auxiliary Battery Kit installed -Fully functional electrical equipment -Fully functional sink and stove -Pop-top in great working shape **I am willing to consider delivery on a case by case basis, with travel cost reimbursement!!** |

Volkswagen Cross Up! aimed at rugged lifestyle folks, complete with plastic cladding
Wed, 06 Mar 2013If you thought there was nothing wrong with the Volkswagen Up! that a little body cladding wouldn't fix, you're in luck. VW has officially pulled the wraps off the production version of the Cross Up!, and its wheel arches and rocker panels are full of the black plastic cladding you've been yearning for.
In addition to the "particularly rugged design and tough, lifestyle qualities" that the cladding exudes, VeeDub has also seen fit to put its Cross Up! on a new set of 16-inch alloy wheels clad in 185/50-series tires. Inside, there are new kick plates to go along with a dash pad that can be had in red, black or silver.
All that cladding must equal additional off-road readiness, right? Well, sure... just so long as you're fine with the same 75-horsepower three-cylinder engine that all other Up! models also feature, along with a five-speed manual transmission sending power to the front wheels, again, just like all other Up! models. The Cross Up! appears to have a taller ride height than other models, but we haven't been able to find out what - if any - changes have been made.
Volkswagen throws a Polo-palooza with four new or upgraded models
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Volkswagen unveiled a parade of new and upgraded Polo models at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo (pictured above). While they will likely never make an appearance this side of the pond, it is fun to see what European subcompact drivers will be driving later this year.
The new BlueMotion models represent the most efficient petrol and diesel options in their class, according to VW. The BlueMotion TDI offers just 73 horsepower from its diesel engine but gives the equivalent of 76 miles per gallon (US) in the EU test. The BlueMotion TSI brings a little more power with its 88-hp petrol engine and has a combined rating of 57 mpg (US) in the EU cycle.
The Polo BlueGT provides a balance of performance and economy, and for the 2014 model, it gains a 9-horsepower boost to its 1.4-liter turbocharged to give drivers 147 hp at the press of the accelerator. This year's car also has an optional Sport Select suspension with electronically controlled dampers to improve handling a bit. It's still fitted with active cylinder management to use as little gas as possible when cruising.
Volkswagen adding R-Line trim to Touareg, Tiguan for 2014
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Volkswagen introduced its aggressive R-Line appearance package on the CC and Beetle last year, but later this year, this treatment will also be applied to VW's crossovers, the Tiguan and Touareg. Both sporty-looking utility vehicles will be unveiled next week at the Detroit Auto Show.
The 2014 Tiguan R-Line comes standard with bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, and the package adds 19-inch wheels, grey fender extensions, body-color side skirts and a liftgate spoiler. Inside, the R-Line adds a flat-bottom sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, a black headliner and numerous metallic trim accents such as the stainless scuff plates, the aluminum pedals and metallic finish on the instrument and door panels. The Tiguan R-Line will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
As for the 2014 Touareg R-Line (shown above), this model gets an ever more distinctive look with an aggressive front fascia, 20-inch wheels and dual oval-shaped exhaust outlets in addition to the painted side skirts and LED taillights. Similar metallic interior trim pieces found inside the Tiguan R-Line will also make their way into the Touareg as well as gloss black accents on the instrument panel and center stack.
