1982 Volkswagen Vanagon L Campmobile Van Camper 3-door 2.0l on 2040-cars
Ortonville, Michigan, United States
Up of auction is a beautifully restored 1982 Volkswagon Vanagon L Westfalia with 90,396 original miles. When I first acquired the van it was in great unrestored condition with a rust free body. Since then, the van underwent some changes. With an accociate who is a second-generation Volkswagen mechanic and myself a certified mechanic and automotive painter with 13 years automotive restoration experience; together we worked bumper-to-bumper restoring the van to its 1982 factory condition. All of the windows, interior, and pop top were removed. The van then was primed with a urethane based primer, sealer, surfacer, blocked sanded, and painted with a basecoat clearcoat urethane paint. After the paint had cured, the clear-coat was buffed and polished to a mirror finish. We reassembled the van replacing any necessary items, some of these included new seals, pop top canvas, tires, and new chrome. The end product is a beautiful original example of an 82 Westy. Everything on this Westy works as it did in 1982; the interior is original and is in exceptional condition. The stove still has the blue plastic protective coating from the factory that was placed there in 1982. We have seen a lot of westfalia's on the market self-proclaiming to be "mint condition." In our opinion these vans are clean but are a far-cry away from this 82 Westy. With the combination of past owners that loved the van, low miles, a rust free body, and a recent restoration we do believe this one is among the top bracket of 82 Westfalia's available. A $500 deposit will be required within 48 hours of the auction ending via PayPal, will not ship, local pick up only please. We reserve the right to remove this listing. Happy bidding! |

Auto execs surveyed say VW, BMW most likely to grow
Thu, 17 Jan 2013A new survey of top global automotive executives indicates both Volkswagen and BMW are the most likely to grow their market share over the next five years.
Tax advisory firm KPMG LLP has released its 14th annual Global Automotive Executive Survey, which includes responses from over 200 executives. A total of 81 percent of respondents said they expect to see Volkswagen make gains, compared to 70 percent last year. BMW, meanwhile, saw 70 percent of those surveyed say they believe the company will increase its market share. That's a jump of 7 percentage points over last year. This is the first time in the history of the survey that BMW has claimed the second-place spot.
Meanwhile, Hyundai has seen its perceived market share potential slacken for the third year in a row. Around 61 percent of those surveyed predicted gains for Hyundai, down from 63 in 2012. Toyota also has a surprising year, but for just the opposite reason. While the manufacturer had slipped in ranking since 2011, it enjoyed the largest increase of any company in the 2013 survey, jumping to 68 percent from 44 percent last year.
Wagons make a bit of a comeback, with new models, sales on the rise
Thu, Jan 10 2019Consider this an official invitation to hop on the wagon bandwagon. There's still tons of room because, well, it's a wagon (and market share is still extremely small). But according to new data, the segment is growing. According to a report from Bloomberg, using data from Edmunds.com, roughly 211,600 Americans purchased wagons in 2018. That is technically down from the 237,600 sold in 2017, but wagon sales in the U.S. are up 29 percent from where they were five years ago. It's also the third year in a row that wagon sales broke the 200,000 mark. The sales trends have been somewhat representative of the availability of wagons. New models have debuted during the past 5 years and therefore offer more opportunity at more brands to buy wagons. In addition to more modest cars such as the Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen, several luxury and performance brands are offering wagons today, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, Volvo and Buick. (Bloomberg's headlines make the point that "crossovers are for the Kardashians," and wagons are just, well, classier.) This uptick in brand-name availability, as well as extremely well-executed design on most of the wagons currently available, has helped increase the segment's desirability. That, and its ability to better accomplish the same tasks at hand while standing out from the crossover and SUV crowd. Still, the posted numbers represent a small fraction of the total vehicles sold. According to the data, wagons only held a 1.4 percent market share in 2017, the segment's best recent year. Wagons hold a steadfast place in America's past, and they're writing an interesting new story. With the downturn in traditional cars, they may continue to create an unexpected narrative. Skoda Octavia vRS is just the thing for your pumped-up neighborhood
Fri, 26 Jul 2013Skoda, oh Skoda. You're just so cool. Maybe it's the fact that it's a brand that we don't get in these United States, but Skoda's rebadged Volkswagens, in particular the new Octavia vRS shown here, are just different enough from the hum-drum VWs on our shores that the Czech brand seems strangely desirable. Maybe we're just craving forbidden fruit.
This short, minute-long spot covers the new vRS in a world of excess, where strollers ride on 26-inch wheels, lawnmowers feature V8 engines and ice cream cones are the size of toddlers. As things often go in these ads, the Octavia vRS draws the eyes of passerby that are seemingly use to things far more ridiculous than a reasonably priced Czech sedan. In reality, the Octavia should be fairly familiar to American buyers. It uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-pot found in the Volkswagen GTI and Jetta GLI, with 217 horsepower, and sits on the same platform as the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf. Take a look at the full spot, below.
