 Hello,
I'll try and explain as much as possible but please see the pictures to make your own assessment or message me if you have more questions.

I purchase this vehicle and as most people don't have enough time to work on it as I would like. It's actually a great vehicle and great place to start if you plan to restore or just drive it as is. I didn't want a vehicle that needed an engine or transmission issues. I wanted to use it the moment I got it and I have. I have driven this vehicle as far as 200 miles at one time without issues. I have camped in it in the local mountains and the beach. It really has been a lot of fun. As I'm sure most of you know these classics are getting harder and harder to find.

This camper or weekender if you prefer is a Riviera, so the top pops straight up. Its got much more room than the Westphalia models. There is an extension to the bunkbed to make it longer but my son didn't need it. The lower bunk is very comfortable as well. The interior is pretty complete to include the curtains. The canvas top could use a fixing or replacement but I've used it open with no issues, just more air. The vehicle has a newer CD player and speakers that have long wires to move them around. I had planned on adding a folding table and extra seat but didn't get that far. The vehicle has some bad window tint on it and I just started to remove some of it. You may see some of the differences in the pictures as I've been removing a little at a time.

The vehicle has rust as most of these that are un-restored do. I'll point out the bigger parts of the body. You will see that the front tire was removed and there are 4 holes there. Some surface rust all about the body. The right rear taillight was "tapped" so there is body damage there and needs a new light but the housing still works and lights up. The passenger door has a dent in it and when you open that door there is some fiberglass repair in the lower wheel well area. When you pop the top the roof is pretty rusted but I haven't seen any leaks coming into the vehicle as of yet. Been through some rain and multiple car washes. The front of the camper top needs to be repaired. It's all there just needs to be pushed back and re-glassed. You will then need to rivet it back to the roof. I have a tie strap holding it down and have many miles on it like that without issues.

Mechanics have been good for me. As I stated before when I purchased it I wanted to drive it and I have... It has been up and down the coast a few times and inland as well to the local mountains. It has never left we stranded, except for the tires that came on it. It had passenger tires on it when I changed all to LT tires. This should give you many enjoyable miles on it. If you didn't know we've been in a heat wave here in Cali too and that's never been an issue sitting in LA traffic either. It leaks some engine oil but I check it every time I drive it, but it's never been low on oil.

It's been a really fun vehicle and have already had so many great memories on it. I wish you happy bidding and hope you have the same great times with it as I have.

Feel free to message me if you need additional information.

TRANSLOGIC 150: Volkswagen XL1

Mon, Feb 24 2014

How do you build the world's most fuel-efficient production car? Start with the world's most aerodynamic design. The Volkswagen XL1 is capable of 261 miles per gallon thanks to its sleek shape and ultra efficient plug-in diesel hybrid powertrain. The downside is that only 250 will be made and none will be sold stateside. That didn't stop us from taking our turn behind the wheel of this truly revolutionary ride.

Automakers want to stop the EPA's fuel economy rules change, and why that's a shortsighted move

Tue, Dec 6 2016

With a Trump Administration looming, the EPA moved quickly after the election to propose finalizing future fuel economy rules last week. The auto industry doesn't like that (surprise), and has started making moves to stop the EPA. Ford CEO Mark Fields said he wanted to lobby Trump to lower the standards, and now the Auto Alliance, a manufacturer group, is saying it will join the fight against cleaner cars. The Alliance represents 12 automakers: BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, GM, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Toyota, VW, and Volvo. Gloria Bergquist, a spokesperson for the Alliance, told Automotive News that the "EPA's sudden and controversial move to propose auto regulations eight months early - even after Congress warned agencies about taking such steps while political appointees were packing their bags - calls out for congressional action to pause this rulemaking until a thoughtful policy review can occur." The EPA was going to consider public comments through April 2017, but then said it would move the deadline to the end of December. That means that it can finalize the rules before President Obama leaves office. The director of public affairs for the Consumer Federation of America, Jack Gillis, said on a conference call with reporters last week when the EPA originally announced its decision that it is unlikely that President Trump will be able to roll back these changes. Gillis also said on the same call that any attempt by the automakers to prevent these changes would be history repeating itself. "These are the same companies that fought airbags, and now promoting the fact that every car has multiple airbags," he said. "These are the same companies that fought the crash-test program, and now are promoting the crash-test ratings published by the government. So, it's clear that they're misperceiving the needs of the American consumer." There are more reasons the Allliance's pushback is flawed. Carol Lee Rawn, the transportation program director for Ceres, said on that call that the automotive industry is a global one, and many automakers are moving to global platforms to help them meet strict fuel economy rules around the world.

Volkswagen considering a four-door, four-seat XL1

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

According to a report in Autocar, Volkswagen might have more in mind for the XL1 than mining it for advances to grace the next-generation Golf. Aiming to fight the Honda FCEV due for public consumption next year, we're told VW executives have put a four-door, four-seater version of the XL1 - it could be called XL2 - on the drawing board. The impetus is said to come from the top, with VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch intent on staying in the deep end of "super-efficent vehicles."
Autocar suspects the necessary changes could raise the weight of the car from 1,749 pounds to 2,068 pounds, which would make it four pounds less than the 2,072-pound Up! we drove a few years ago. Crucially, however, the mag thinks the extra capacity wouldn't change the two-seater's 310-mile-per-gallon rating, with tech tweaks and the aerodynamic benefit of a longer car offsetting the weight. Speculation is that the back seats would be staggered like the fronts in order to maintain the XL1's overall profile.
We recently heard about another XL1 variant that's gone off the radar entirely, the Ducati-engined XLR that we thought we'd see at the Geneva Motor Show and that was said to be going into production, so this one could go the same way. The biggest hurdle to making such an idea a reality, though, could be the price: the current XL1 costs 110,000 euros ($146,116). If VW really is going to compete with the Honda FCEV and the Toyota FCV - $70,000 in Japan - that might be where it wants to start.
