1976 Vw Westfalia....incredible Condition...ready To Travel on 2040-cars
Shandaken, New York, United States
This bus is a runner. There are a new core and heads with only 15k on them in the original engine casing. A new clutch has only 15k on it. The rear axles, ditto. A new Bosch fuel pump, 12k. A new alternator and gel battery, 12k. New tires, 5k. New starter and solenoid, new injectors, 5k. Brakes are in great shape.
This bus runs and drives tip-top. The tranny is smooth and steady. The front end is tight with absolutely no play in the wheel. The body has been completely restored and painted. Any rust has been totally eradicated. It looks brand new. The frame and all joints, tie rods, etc. are original and in perfect condition. Zero rust. The new engine has been maintained with serious attention to detail. The valves have been cared for. This bus has never been overheated and has always been driven properly as the VW engine asks for. There is a nice system in this bus with a JVC deck, Bluetooth with hands-free mic, sub, amp and the rear speakers are in boxes with 15 ft of cable each so the party can be brought outside. It has a Fiamma two-bike rear rack that will carry any bikes, even a pair of 29-er mountain bikes. The canvas in the pop-top is flawless and the screen is brand new, I replaced it myself. The back-crippling fold-down rear bench seat has been removed and replaced by a memory foam bed that is (forgive the pun) a dream to sleep on. This bus is ready to travel right now with one or two people. When I built the custom bed I left the fold-down frame intact for anyone who would like to re-install the bench for passengers. I also removed the fridge/stove/sink unit as I found it senseless and in the way. These can be bought online and re-installed with four bolts if anyone should desire. What you've got here is a mechanically super-sound bus with a no-rust body that drives like a champ. This is hard to find. With a little re-modeling inside you've got that original Westy look. Audi CEO says brand's EVs are almost as profitable as its other cars
Mon, Oct 4 2021After, oh, a hundred years or so of building vehicles primarily powered by internal combustion engines, automakers around the world have been and still are pumping billions of dollars into the development of electric vehicle technology. Everything from platforms and batteries to motors and the software to control it all requires untold hours of development, and that takes time and money. Fortunately, it's not going to take long for that massive investment to start paying off, at least according to Audi CEO Markus Duesmann, who told Reuters in an interview that "The point where we earn as much money with electric cars as with combustion engine cars is now, or ... next year, 2023. They are very even now, the prices." As a brand, Audi contributed more than a quarter of overall profit for the massive Volkswagen Group, which has such powerhouse brands as Volkswagen and Porsche among others. Under the Audi umbrella are Lamborghini, Bentley and Ducati, and it seems those high-end branches aren't going anywhere, at least for now. "These brands ... are very valuable very profitable brands, where we can even expand the synergy level in the future," Duesmann said in the interview. "There are no plans whatsoever to get rid of them." Despite the overall profitability of the brand, the ongoing global chip crisis is causing headaches. "We had a very strong first half in 2021. We do expect a much weaker second half," said Duesmann, who added, "We really have trouble." In fact, so serious is the trouble that the brand is forced into "a day-to-day troubleshooting process" to limit the chip-shortage damage. The good news for the automaker is that Audi has been able to boost its profit margin from 8% prior to the pandemic in 2019 to 10.7% in the first half of 2021. The bad news is that various chip shortages aren't expected to get a whole lot better over the rest of the year. Related video:
Volkswagen debuts MkVII-based diesel Golf GTD
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As Volkswagen prepares for the launch of the seventh-generation Golf, it continues to show off some of the car's different variants. With the standard Golf and the ultra-efficient BlueMotion Concept out of the way, now we're finally starting to see some of the sportier versions planned for the hatchback. Confirmed for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen has now given us our first glimpse at the Golf GTD.
Just think of the GTD as a diesel version of the GTI with all the handling and styling upgrades, and then add a torquey engine to the equation. (We had the chance to sample the current GTD over the summer, so click here to read more.) To go with the new body style, VW also gave the GTD a new TDI engine consisting of a similar turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter inline-four layout but with an output of 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque - that's an increase of 14 hp and 22 lb-ft over the current GTD. That's a pretty good oomph, but the GTD won't be setting any acceleration records with VW quoting a 0-62 mile per hour time of 7.5 seconds thanks to the car's 3,036-pound curb weight.
The styling of the MkVII Golf lends itself quite well to the more aggressive body kit found on the GTD (and likely matching the GTI). The new front fascia and blacked-out grille give the GTD a sporty look up front, while 17-inch sport wheels, rocker panel extensions and smoked LED taillights finish off the visual changes. The GTD will only be offered in three exterior colors: Tornado Red, Black and Pure White. As expected, the interior gets the plaid seat inserts and flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, but the car also gets stainless steel pedals, a black headliner, ambient cabin lighting and a specific gauge cluster readout.
Volkswagen says goodbye to Eos, Routan in 2015 updates
Wed, 23 Jul 2014Usually automakers announce changes to their lineup individually on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis, but sometimes it all comes at once - especially when the changes are ones we either expected or might not otherwise notice. That's the path Volkswagen has gone with changes to its US lineup for 2015.
The biggest change is what we already knew: that the new Golf arrives for the 2015 model year, bringing with it the new GTI, Golf R, e-Golf and Golf SportWagen (to replace the previous Jetta wagon). But there are some new details as well.
For starters, Volkswagen has finally confirmed that both the Eos and the Routan - both long rumored to be on their way out - will be exiting this year. The Eos hardtop convertible, pictured above, will linger for one last year, its Sport trim replaced by a new Final Edition with 18-inch wheels, two-tone leather interior and enhanced equipment.
