1973 Volkswagen Vw Bus Riviera on 2040-cars
Camas, Washington, United States
92K on this low mile camper. Very solid minimal rust. Runs and drives, but not well. Windshield area is perfect. I was going to restore but need to work on my 72 Riviera first. Have title and lots of paperwork history.(see pics) Has 80% OG paint and is mostly stock unrestored. Had respray many years ago on pass side rear corner. Is complete minus the camping interior let was pulled out by previous owner. Still has all seat belts as well. Still has pop top in good shape but needs ceiling redone. I have purchased a 1972 westfalia interior with Zbed, closet, jumpseat, icebox etc. Still has propane tanks underneath and some of the Riviera curtains. Still has complete factory tool kit and spare tire cover. Doors all open and close smooth as a low mile bus should. Working on getting a better rear bumper from friend and it looks bad but straight. With a new wood floor its would look great and stock. Minimal rust, only metal required will be both battery trays as it had dual batteries as a Riviera option. One side window also has a hole as shown in pics. Also had dealer installed AC which appears complete. Cool bellypan I've never seen. Have recipits for dealer installed sidestep, side vent shades and the rare rear mudflaps. I will take off 300$ selling price as I'd like to keep them but have dealer recipits for all three items in 74 so they should stay with the bus. I'm listing now before I really dig in and get the new interior installed and a new set of carbs. Will need all new rubber window and door seals soon but I'm out of time. I've got it running again with my old 72 dual carbs but needs some motor work. Tranny and clutch operated well as do the brakes. No loud noises just needs and couple more days of tuning and I'm not a carb guy. I replaced fuel lines and filter I'll mess around with it in the next couple of days and see if I can make it run better. It will drive onto a trailer or around the block but please don't plan on driving it home safely. Motor will probley need rebuilt in the future to make it a good long haul camper. I've replaced the front calipers with rebuilt ATE ones, new pads, and lines as the drivers side was sticking. Very cool project that hasn't been messed with as I keep finding all stock items. Radio delete plate, german stocks etc. Steering is real tight and nice and so mush better than my 300k 72. Could be ready this summer with a little motor work and some carbs. I'll include original ones as well. I'll pulled out all the parts I have for it this week and update. Let me know if you want any other specific pics and I'll be glad to post them. I'll add more info this week. I sold a bus overseas before and will again as long as its paided up front. It you want to order parts and have sent here I will put inside bus for shipping. I'm off all week so can show locally, I'm in Camas, Washington 10 minutes from Portland OR airport.

2014 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible gets the R-Line treatment
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Volkswagen just launched the topless Beetle Convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, but we're already seeing the next step forward in the topless Bug range with this, the R-Line. We'll admit, this treatment falls under the "all show and no go" category, but it's still a pretty potent little cutie.
The R-Line starts with a standard Beetle Turbo Convertible but adds unique 19-inch aluminum wheels on lower-profile tires, LED daytime running lamps and Xenon headlamps. Naturally, there are R-Line badges aplenty both on the interior and exterior, and we must say, the whole package looks pretty darn snazzy.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but when it goes on sale later this year, the hotter convertible will join Volkswagen's growing R-Line portfolio that now includes the CC, Beetle hatch, Tiguan and Touareg.
VW confirms development of 10-speed dual clutch, 134-hp/liter diesel
Fri, 26 Apr 2013Each year, the Vienna International Motor Symposium showcases some of the up-and-coming technologies automakers are engineering for the use in passenger cars, and Volkswagen AG CEO Martin Winterkorn revealed some big developments VW is working on for its future products. Winterkorn discussed a multi-faceted approach that VW is looking to reduce its fleet fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
Some of the bigger news he discussed included a "high-performance" diesel engine that will produce 134 horsepower per liter and a 10-speed DSG automatic transmission. While no specific applications were mentioned, we can only hope this is for the Audi R4 we keep hearing about.
Another topic he touched on that caused us to perk up our ears was had to do with VW's plug-in hybrid technology. While we know the PHEV versions of the Audi A3 and Porsche Panamera are on the way, Winterkorn also said that these two models will be followed up by Golf, Passat, Audi A6 and Porsche Cayenne plug-in models. Scroll down for a press release highlighting the automaker's future fuel-saving initiatives.
Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift
Fri, Feb 20 2015The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
