1973 Panel van up for bidding. This van is in very good shape for the year. The sliding door operates nicely as the track and supporting metal has been replaced, the driverside floorpan has also been repaired. The entire electrical system has been rewired and everything works as the factory intended some features like the headlights even better. It has new modern fuse and relay panels and metri-pack connectors throughout. The front end is tight and it rides very nicely down the road. The RA08 tires are nearly new as well as the front brakes including the rotors, rear brakes are also in fine working order. The front doors have new handles and locks. The windshield is recently replaced and is perfect. The fuel system including the tank and pump are new and the tank has a liner in it to keep it rust free for years to come. Interior is in fair shape, has a decent stereo. Trans works well and shifts well. The engine is a 1700 pancake style and has dropped a valve, so currently it is not running. With the addition off a rebuilt engine this bus is a daily driver, everything else mechanically is really in good shape. I have lots of parts and panels that go with, including a battery tray and driver side rocker repair panel, both of which it could use but not in dire need. The frame and underside are in amazing shape compared to most vehicles of this vintage. New clutch cable as well as the sleeve at the tranny that wears out. Heating system is in need of repair, I never drove it in the winter so it never bothered me. Some dumb@$$ previous owner cut holes in the rear panels but they have been repaired, one fairly well, one not so much but can be fixed up easily. Not really that noticeable but not that great either. If you are looking for a solid vintage bus to drive or build a project around this is the one you want. Volkswagen incorporating gesture control into updated Golf

For many, the Volkswagen Golf is the epitome of the accessible mode of transportation. It is the "People's Car," after all. Yet in its next iteration, it's slated to get some trick high-end tech on board. Speaking with Auto Express, VW powertrain chief Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser revealed that the upcoming facelifted Golf will include gesture control technology. "The interior features a preview of future VW interior technologies, with smartphone applications redefined for automotive use," Neusser told AE. "The gesture control will become reality in the Golf at the end of next year." The feature is being rolled out by other automakers on decidedly more upscale offerings (like the next-gen BMW 7 Series), but look poised to democratize the technology on the far more accessible Golf as soon as next year when the updated model arrives. VW demonstrated the tech at CES with the Golf R Touch concept, which is making an encore appearance at CES Asia in Shanghai this week, where Neusser confirmed the features are slated for production. The VW Golf R Touch concept incorporated a trio of oversized infotainment displays measuring 12.8, 12.3 and 8 inches, as well as gesture-control technology and all the latest smartphone connectivity standards – including Microsoft MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto.

VW developed 4 separate defeat devices over 7 years

Today brings more bad news for Volkswagen as three anonymous insiders, speaking to Reuters, are claiming that the company modified its emissions defeat device to work on at least four engines over the seven years the company has admitted to cheating. If true, the incremental updates to the software cheat could be evidence of a larger group of employees making an ongoing effort to continue their deception without regulators' knowledge. So far, VW's emissions scandal has embroiled some 11 million vehicles using the EA189 and EA288 diesel engines. "VW would have had to reconfigure the software for each generation of engines," an unnamed official close to the US investigation said to Reuters. Recently, Volkswagen asserted that only a few individuals were involved in the cheat, and challenged a report that at least 30 managers knew about the situation. The report in Reuters, if true, would make VW's claims hard to believe. It might also mean even more legal trouble for VW. According to the report, the Justice Department could seek even harsher punishments if it finds out that more top execs knew more about the issue than VW is letting on. Investigators in Europe have also been working out who was involved in the deception. Italian authorities recently searched the Lamborghini headquarters and VW's main office in the country looking for evidence. Meanwhile, German prosecutors collected documents directly from the automaker's headquarters in Wolfsburg, and regulators there mandated a recall in early 2016. Related Video:
