1972 Vw Bus W/ '78 Motor That Needs Work, Restored, No Rust, Low Reserve! on 2040-cars
Lebanon, Missouri, United States

I will be revising this listing with more details soon, but wanted to go ahead and start generating some interest. I have been out of the country for a year and am looking for the papers regarding the restoration work I have had done to it. I will also be adding more detailed pictures in the next day or two.
This VW bus is not currently running. Someone unfamiliar with the way the buses drive ran her too hard and sprung an oil leak in the freshly rebuilt 1978 motor. It had less than 5000 miles on the "new" motor when it happened, and I will have an exact mileage tomorrow when I go to the storage unit she's in. The engine actually locked up on my way to the shop to have her looked at. The mechanic removed the motor, but at the time I just didn't have more money to sink into rebuilding again, so the motor was put inside the sliding door of the bus and the vehicle has been in storage for a year or so. Now I am living out of the country and really just need to sell. I paid $9300 for this little beauty, but the seller lied about a few things that had supposedly been done to it. The filter became totally clogged from dirty, rusty fuel tank which has been completely flushed now, among many other issues that could have been avoided if it had been properly cared for and maintained. I then dropped about $7000 on restoration work, parts, and a rebuilt, more powerful 1978 motor at No Name Garage in Eugene, Oregon. Look them up, they are very reputable. I have a detailed list of everything that was done to it, but will have to revise my listing with this information soon as it is lost in the boxes in my garage at the moment. She's had new tires, brakes, rack and pinion, carbeurators, joints/axles, whole new accelerator pedal and mechanism, new brakes, all the engine cooling flaps replaced and put on properly (some idiot had removed them completely) along with several other things. The transmission was still running strong, so nothing was done to it. The steering box will eventually need to be rebuilt, but still functions properly. The speakers and CD player do not currently work. She had absolutely no rust. Now, there is a small rust spot where someone backed into it, causing a dent and broken taillight. Other than that, there is very little body damage, and nothing at all major. I will include detailed pics within the next week or so. The upholstery is virtually new, although some of the trim work inside is coming loose and the hinges of the closet are hanging. The screws are stripped on the curtain rods. The previous owner had the interior done, and it was a mediocre job on carpeting and trim, but the new seat upholstery and bed are pretty nice, and gray. The back seat folds down into a bed. The pop-up camper top is in like-new condition other than one small crack in the fiberglass that has a very slow drip when there is heavy rain. The canvas is great though. I will be available to show the vehicle in Springfield Missouri by appointment all week if anyone is interested in looking before buying. But let me tell you, this is a STEAL for a collector or reseller.. I have put so much money into the restoration of this classic beauty, I really hope to see it end up in the hands of someone who will appreciate her. Contact me to set up a viewing, or with any questions. I am not a mechanic, but will do my best to answer. It would be best if the buyer could arrange shipment before/after the sale as I know nothing about this. We can discuss payment options if you are interested in bidding. Good luck! She's a steal at this low price. Check back for more detailed pics and specs. |

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee teases return with a Countach
Fri, May 29 2015Unless you have an intense aversion to Jerry Seinfeld, it's hard not to find something to like about his show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. After all, the series combines funny people telling often hilarious stories while riding in ridiculously cool vehicles. The trailer for the sixth season is now online, and based on this tease, this definitely looks worth watching no matter what part of the videos interest you. Of course, it's the automotive portion that really grabs us, and Seinfeld has quite a fleet to showcase for season six. The trailer shows off a Lamborghini Countach, a '57 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible, a classic Volkswagen Beetle in the green and white German Polizei livery, a Morgan, an Aston Martin DB5, and a Ferrari 308. On the more humorous side of things, the guest list at least includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jim Carrey, Steve Harvey, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher and upcoming host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah. Season six of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee premieres on Crackle on Wednesday, June 3, at 11:30 PM ET.
Brazil contemplates safety exemption for VW Kombi as it goes out of production today [w/poll]
Tue, 31 Dec 2013Brazil: the country of carnivals, indescribable beauty adjacent to abject poverty, Ayrton Senna and old Volkswagen models. Only they're not old - they're new, they're just based on old designs. The original Beetle continued production there long after it had been phased out elsewhere, but the original Kombi van has lasted much longer. That ends today, however, with the iconic VW Microbus ambling out of production on the last day of 2013.
VW kept making the van in Brazil with the original air-cooled 1.2-liter boxer four until 2005, after which the original design was updated with a 1.4-liter water-cooled engine. Today, however, it ultimately falls prey to safety regulations that mandate that all vehicles - no matter how old their design - need to have airbags and ABS, forcing Volkswagen do Brasil to cease production of the Microbus after a 56-year production run. But the latest word is that the Kombi (as it's presently known) could get a stay of execution - or at least a resurrection in short order.
According to reports, the Brazilian government is looking into granting the Type 2 Microbus an exemption from said safety regulations, reasoning that the van was designed long before the advent of airbags and ABS. If the measure goes through, the Kombi Last Edition (pictured above) could prove not to be the last at all. So what do you think, should the Microbus get an exemption from Brazilian safety regulations for nostalgia's sake? Vote in our poll below, then have your say in Comments.
Intel-Mobileye tech in 2M BMWs, VWs, Nissans will crowdsource maps for autonomy
Tue, Jan 9 2018Intel Chief Executive Brian Krzanich said on Monday 2 million vehicles from BMW, Nissan and Volkswagen would use its unit Mobileye's technology to crowdsource data for building maps that enable autonomous driving. The world's largest chipmaker bought Israeli firm Mobileye last year to compete with peers such as Qualcomm and Nvidia Corp and tap the fast-growing market of driverless cars, filled with a complex tangle of alliances. (VW, for example, is also working with Nvidia.) Krzanich was the keynote speaker at the Consumer Electronics Show. He said data from Mobileye's Road Experience Management software would gather data to build and update scalable high-definition maps. He also announced that Intel would be working with Ferrari on AI drones to cover Ferrari Challenge North America Series racing. The drones would provide video of the races, but ultimately they would provide drivers with data — video that would let them see their racing performance from overhead, but also telemetry information about, say, how they enter and exit a turn. Intel will also tie up with SAIC Motor Corp, which will use Mobileye technology to develop Level 3, 4 and 5 autonomous cars in China, the chipmaker said. Krzanich also said Intel had not received any information of customer data being compromised so far after the company confirmed last week that security issues reported by researchers in its widely used microprocessors could allow hackers to steal sensitive information from computers, phones and other devices. Security researchers had disclosed two security flaws exposing vulnerability of nearly every modern computing device containing chips from Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and ARM Holdings.
