1971 VW TRANSPORTER BUS --H4 1.6 Liter 1584 CC 97 CID-- ALREADY LOOKS GREAT BUT WOULD LOOK AMAZING WITH EVEN MORE RESTORATION I purchased this classic in Seattle via private sale and it has lived in my WA garage since then. Previous to that it had 2 owners, both in Seattle and was always garaged. Because of this, there is minimal rust on the bus:) A local auto restorer told me it was the most rust free bus he'd seen in a long time! I purchased this in November and had hoped to keep it in my private collection for a long time, but my need for money for my new business has forced me to sell. It runs great and I am extremely sad to be selling! It passed the pre-buyers inspection I paid for wonderfully. I never buy a vehicle without one. It was recommended that I do a tune up which I just had done (6/25/14). It has been a reliable street and country-road vehicle for me in the last 8 months, a drove it on the freeway from Seattle home and it did great on the freeway as well. A previous owner had the bus professionally repainted, and it looks wonderful. There are a few areas of bondo on the side panels (please see photos) and your random nicks here and there but overall, it is a head turner wherever it goes! It has the original seats and all 9 original seat belts. One seatbelt needs to be bolted in still. The odometer reads 89,326 miles AS OF 6/23/2014. I am still driving this, so there may be more at time of pickup. Has collectors plates, so no tabs ever needed once transferred to new owners name! The interior has decent seats, there are tears in all three but still comfy with the exception of the front seat, which in my opinion would be great to replace. The heater works as far as I can tell, but don't get too excited, it does not heat you like a new car, lol. The passenger side mirror is missing and will need to be purchased. The right rear brake light is cracked, but still intact. It has 4 speeds and reverse, all working. A few easy to read bullet points- -Engine = H4 1.6 Liter 1584 CC 97 CID -Transmission = manual 4 speed -Purchased in WASHINGTON NOVEMBER 2013 --garaged ever since! -ONE OF THE MOST RUST FREE RIGS YOU WILL FIND!!!! -Odometer: Original MILES!!!! 89,326- SUPER LOW!!! -In good running condition at purchase; even better now after the tune up!! Truck is currently a reliable starter and runner. -Beautiful lines! -Recent new paint job with some blemishes (see pics). Mainly, the paint looks great, but there are a few areas where the paint could use some touch up (if you are picky). There are a few slight little dings here and there (nothing super noticeable), and a few areas where the paint has bubbled up a bit over the bondo areas. Overall, it looks great but it not perfect and should not be considered as such. -Passenger side (right) mirror is missing and needs to be replaced. -All doors lock! Key included. -All lights and windshield wipers all work. -Stereo is installed but not in working condition. -Interior light works. -Brakes are at 8mm and 6mm and in good working order. -Tires have good tread left. MOST EXCITING IS ALL THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO THE BUS IN THE LAST 10k miles! 1. 74, 835 miles: $287.78 -replaced engine compartment fuel hoses -cleaned/filed/st point gap/ -set basic timing -replaced alternator belt -changed oil, cleaned strainer filter -bleed brake system checked transmission fluid 2. 74,949 miles: $703.41 -replaced brake master cylinder -left rear wheel cylinder -bleed system -replaced turn signal relay -replaced broken connectors on fuse block -repaired horn button connection -replaced lights 3. 74,967 miles: $330.06 TIRES! (55,000 mile warranty, good till 124k+miles) 4. 79,170 miles: $765.61 BRAKES! -resealed oil strainer housing and drain plug -ignition timing off, reset timing and idle speed -serviced front brakes, replaced calipers, pads and rotors. -lubed caliper sides -repacked wheel bearings -bleed system -adjust rear brakes 5. 81,795 miles: $299.24 -replaced both relays and covered fuse/relay box -replaced right real wheel cylinder -oil change 6. 83,159 miles: $1,872.45 -rebuilt manual transmission -replaced clutch and shifting coupler -tightened fan belt 7. 85,000 miles: $1084.00 PAINT JOB! Done by Maaco Lower tone red, upper tone white 8. 89,326 miles: $ COMPLETE TUNE UP!! VW App-Connect gets celeb-studded campaign
Sat, Sep 19 2015Volkswagen is hoping that some celebrity faces help get the word out about App-Connect in the German brand's latest models with the MIB II infotainment system. The humorous, new commercial titled Party (above) stars Adam Scott, Michael Pena, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and the three of them are using voice commands and the touchscreen to show off the tech while planning a party. Another 30-second commercial titled Sorry with the three guys is coming along soon, as well, to advertise it even more. App-Connect is part of VW's adoption of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink. By supporting all three standards, pretty much every smartphone user can plug into the vehicle's infotainment system. The tech is already available on the 2016 Tiguan and Golf R but is rolling out to all of the German brand's vehicles this model year, except for the Touareg and Eos. VOLKSWAGEN DEMONSTRATES ADVANCED CONNECTIVITY IN NEW CELEBRITY-DRIVEN MARKETING CAMPAIGN Sep 17, 2015 First brand to offer all three major smartphone integration platforms; available on virtually every model and nearly every trim Highlights App-Connect, a new technology which makes compatible smartphone integration seamless through Apple CarPlay®, Google Android Auto™, and MirrorLink® Multimedia Campaign stars Hollywood celebrities Michael Pena, Adam Scott and Christopher Mintz-Plasse Herndon, Va. – Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced the release of a new advertising campaign that highlights the brand's all-new infotainment system, MIB II, and its advanced smartphone integration technology, App-Connect. As part of Volkswagen's available Car-Net® suite of connectivity offerings, App-Connect allows for seamless integration of compatible smartphones across Apple CarPlay®, Google Android Auto™ and MirrorLink®; making it the first automaker to do so. The campaign kicks off with two 30-second television commercials, titled "Party" and "Sorry" starring Adam Scott, Michael Pena and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. In each spot, the celebrities navigate App-Connect by utilizing voice commands, the vehicle's touchscreen, and steering wheel controls.
Chrysler slows minivan production, hasn't built VW Routan this year
Wed, 13 Mar 2013Chrysler has slowed production of its Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans this week, Automotive News reports. The Windsor, Ontario plant will cut its three shifts from eight hours each to four hours each in an effort "to align production with market demand," a Chrysler spokesperson told AN. Chrysler also builds the closely related Routan minivan for Volkswagen at its Ontario facility, but has not built a single example thus far in 2013.
Sales of Chrysler's minivans fell 15 percent for the first two months of 2013, and a large part of that has to do with the 26-percent drop of the Grand Caravan alone (the T&C was only down by one percent). According to Automotive News data, as of March 1, Chrysler had an unsold inventory of 24,713 Town and Country models and 18,547 Grand Caravans - a 69- and 43-day supply, respectively.
"No sense running full speed now, then have a lot of vehicles sitting around a few months down the line," Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson told AN. Full production is expected to resume again on March 18.
Volkswagen Diesels: Buy, sell, or hold?
Tue, Oct 13 2015Everyone who owns or has remotely considered a Volkswagen diesel over the past 45 days has tried to figure out the right formula. Is it worth buying after the recall? If I own one, should I sell it? How will it perform if I want to keep it? Questions create doubts, and doubts create a stunning lack of activity when it comes to the new and used car market. I seriously doubt Volkswagen will be rolling out its 2016 TDI models anytime soon. The company already failed to create a fix nearly a year ago and has spent an unusually long amount of time trying to get the formula right. There's also the fact that it rescinded its EPA application for 2016 models. I can't provide the ultimate oracle's guide on whether any recalled Volkswagen diesel will fall under the "good value" perceptions of car buyers. But I do believe four factors in particular will be largely independent of the outcome of that recall, and they're what you should pay particular attention to if you plan on buying any Volkswagen diesel – new or used. 1. Demand Creating Bad Supply There are a large number of car buyers who believe that they can zig while the marketplace tells them to zag. Unfortunately, those are the ones that get sent to the slaughter once articles like the one linked above proclaim, "resale values are down 13 percent." These heavily biased write-ups ignore the fact both the supply and demand of new and used recalled Volkswagen diesels are no longer operating in that free market. The supply side is obvious since the EPA has put a stop-sale on all Volkswagen diesels. However, on the demand side, those Volkswagen dealers who have exclusive access to off-lease vehicles and certified pre-owned programs for 2012 and newer VW diesels are now sitting on the sidelines with all those cars. When your best players no longer play, consumers don't come to the ballpark. What exists right now is a lot like a professional sports strike where the talent sits out until a collective agreement is reached. When your best players no longer play, consumers don't come to the ballpark. The marketplace only offers scabs that can play an inferior game. In the wholesale car business, the scabs are salvage vehicles that are wrecked or flood damaged, vehicles that can't be put under a CPO program due to frame damage and lemon law requirements, and the wholesale repossession market. All of these substandard vehicles make up the new supply, the collective underbelly of low-end quality in the used car marketplace.
