This camper runs so good, I can hardly believe it.

This van is ready for a very easy restoration, or leave it as it is as a survivor.

This is a 99.9% rust free Volkswagen high top camper.

The conversion is done by a company called Sundial.

Here are the specifics.

BODY:

The body is in 99.9% rust free condition.  I have taken a picture of the only spot of rust that I have found.  It is the size of a silver dollar.  This van is as clean as they come.  The body is super straight.  I have taken photos of any obvious body damage.  The crease in the door happened as the man was removing it from the yard where I bought it.  There are only 3 dents that I know of and a little tiny bit of old filler on the nose, which is very common.  This vehicle is in superb condition for a restoration or a daily driver as she sits.

PAINT:

The paint looks alright, but is faded.  This was a repaint to make it blue.  The van was originally red.  The door jams are still red.

RUST:

99.9% rust free!!! Photo of only spot that I found.  Arizona car.

INTERIOR:

This is a walk thru cab.  The seats are complete but do need to be re-upholstered.  The wood for the interior camper conversion is complete, but will need to be refinished or use the panels for templates.  The sink unit is still there and appears to be usable with just a little cleaning and maintenance.

ENGINE:

The engine runs beautifully.  No smoke, no ugly sounds.  The van fires right up and drives like a dream.  Very solid engine.  1600cc dual port engine.

TRANSMISSION:

The transmission is the standard four speed manual transmission.  It shifts through the gears like a bus should.

TIRES:

The tires still have the nibs on them.  The do have a tiny bit of dry cracks on the side, but they are very tiny.  You decide to change them or not.

TITLE:

Yes, I have a clear open title from the company that I bought the van from.  It is clean and clear and NOT a salvage title.

STORAGE:

If the van is paid for in full I will store the van for up to 3 months free of charge.  I will not take any responsibility for anything that may happen to the van during this time.

SHIPPING:

I will assist in loading the van, but all costs associated with the shipping are the responsibility of the buyer.  I do occasionally drive from Arizona to Florida.  If we come to an agreement, I can deliver the van anywhere along the I-10 for a previously agreed upon price.  Call first to make a deal.

QUESTIONS:

Feel free to ask any questions.  You can call me at 602-625-1579  Thanks, Pete

2015 Volkswagen GTI: Driving into spring with just one regret [w/video]

Wed, Apr 15 2015

If you only notice one thing in the video above, it should be this: that GTI is filthy. Yes, the grossness of winter took its toll on our long-term 2015 Volkswagen GTI, covering the Carbon Steel hatch in a mess of salt-and-slush-streaked grime. The GTI was a champ during the cold months With 225/40R18 Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires offering sure-footed grip, the hatch became a dear companion to editors slogging through unsavory weather. Front-wheel-drive cars are already pretty solid for wintertime driving, and with the added traction of these tires, the GTI plowed forward without any drama. Our biggest gripe about snowy driving involved the car's Driver Assistance Package – a $695 option that, knowing what we know now, we wouldn't have ordered. First, this option positions the front camera right in the middle of the lower grille, which looks pretty terrible. But more importantly, the system can't tell the difference between slush/snow and an actual obstacle, so it constantly feels the need to warn us that we might hit something when the camera is covered in grime. Clearing the camera off isn't a problem, but the practice grew more annoying as the season continued. The Driver Assistance Package gets you front and rear parking sensors that, honestly, we find to be a bit too sensitive. It's activated in any low-speed situation, so the car freaks out whenever you take it through a car wash, and beeps if you walk up to the rear (to, say, open the hatch) while the engine is running. And because the GTI S model doesn't get you a rear-view camera, there's no real added benefit to the noise-makers. Yes, they help while parking in tight places, but if you struggle to park a vehicle the size of a Golf with its already excellent sight lines, you've got larger problems to overcome. We have other issues with the system, too – like how the forward sensors will blink in the instrument panel to tell you you're too close to the vehicle in front of you on the road, even with a four-car-length separation between vehicles. In all, these issues just don't seem to outweigh the benefits of the safety system. To us, it's not $695 well spent. But enough complaining. Really, the Driver Assistance Package has been the only issue we've had with the GTI since its arrival in January. Now that winter has finally melted away, we've enjoyed nice, warm temperatures here in Detroit – just last week, we were took the winter tires off.

Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.

Volkswagen Routan dead, pour out a sippy cup for your little homies

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

America's minivan wolfpack has just gotten smaller by one. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen officials have confirmed what we've suspected for some time - the Routan is dead. Essentially a lightly reworked version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Routan actually hasn't been rolling off of Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario production line at all this year, but VW had yet to confirm its discontinuation. However, Jonathan Browning, CEO of VW America, has reportedly admitted that the Routan is being axed, with remaining units expected to be funneled into corporate functions for "internal purposes."
The move isn't unexpected - the Routan has never been a big seller, with just 57,650 examples moved since sales began in 2008 - peak yearly sales totaled under 16,000 units, and that was back in 2010. And while many have talked of the minivan segment shrinking, Automotive News points out that the segment actually grew 14 percent last year to 597,118 units, though it should be noted that most segments have been on sales upticks as the US economy chugs out of its recession.
So, is volume-crazy Volkswagen prepared to pass on large family vehicle sales? Probably not - the German automaker has signaled that it plans to build a three-row crossover in North America soon, and we wouldn't be surprised if it looks an awful lot like the Crossblue Concept from January's Detroit Auto Show - minus the fancy plug-in diesel powertrain.
