1970 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Van.  This bus was recently pulled out of a yard where it sat for almost 8 years.  We replaced the carb, fuel lines, fuel filter, flushed the tank and installed a new battery and it fired right up.  This bus has a 1600 dual port that leaks a small amount of oil.  We also repaired the hoses going to the brake fluid reservoir and bled the brakes.  I have since put about 150 miles on it running around town and to our favorite fishing hole.  The top canvas is in good condition.  The top is not brittle and the mesh windows are in good shape.  The zippers function at work properly.  The rubber tiedowns for the top need replaced.  This bus is a running driving project.  Has noise coming from left rear wheel bearing.  I assume it needs replaced.  Drivers door glass is detached from the regulator.  Brakes work but need a little more attention to be considered reliable.  Tires hold air but are not really highway worthy.  The rear wheels are 66-67 Bug wheels.  I will include 2 additional 14 inch bus rims with the sale so that the buyer has a correct set of wheels.  The rear hatch on this bus is very rusty will need to be replaced.  The rest of the bus has some rust issues as shown in the pictures.  Older paint and body work is not the best.  There are several spots where you can see cracks in the body filler.  IMO these areas would need the body Filler removed to properly repair them.  Rocker under sliding door has filler that is cracking out.  The belly pans on this bus are solid.  Again, please look at the pictures so you know what you are buying.  This is a running project that will require some work to make it a reliable daily driver.  I have put roughly 150 problem free miles on this bus in the last week.  I have shippers that can deliver this bus to Southern California or the Bay area for between $600 and $700.  We can store this bus for a reasonable amount of time while you arrange for pick up.  Once purchased and paid for the bus will be stored inside.  Please email me with any other questions you may have.  Thank you. Jeremy.

UAW angered over VW workers getting right to defend anti-union vote

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

The United Auto Workers have called a decision by the National Labor Relations Board allowing anti-UAW employees at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga the right to defend voting down unionization at the plant "an outrage."
You'll recall that the union was defeated by a vote of 712 to 626 in a contentious February election. The UAW claims the outcome was unfairly swayed by pro-business, anti-union forces, including Senator Bob Corker and political advocate Grover Norquist.
This new decision by the NLRB essentially gives workers backed by the anti-UAW National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation and Southern Momentum a formal voice in the impending hearing on the UAW's appeal of the vote.

Volkswagen officially grants access to UAW in Tennessee

Tue, Dec 9 2014

An audit at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN has revealed that at least 45 percent of the facility's workers support unionization, leading the German company to grant access rights to the United Auto Workers. This is a tremendous step in the UAW's long-running and at times contentious pursuit of the workforce at Chattanooga. With this latest move, "local leadership is ready to move forward with additional conversations with the company," the union said in a statement obtained by The Detroit News. "As a starting point, UAW Local 42 will take advantage of the company's offer to establish bi-weekly meetings with Volkswagen Human Resources and the Volkswagen Chattanooga Executive Committee." The News reports that UAW Secretary-Treasurer Gary Casteel, shown above speaking at the Chattanooga plant last summer, claimed these meetings "will remind Human Resources and the Chattanooga Executive Committee of the mutually agreed-upon commitments that were made by Volkswagen and the UAW last spring in Germany. Among those commitments: Volkswagen will recognize the UAW as the representative of our members. We believe Volkswagen made this commitment in good faith and we believe the company will honor this commitment." It's important to note that despite Casteel's remarks, this is not a collective-bargaining agreement, Harley Shaiken, a labor professor at University of California, Berkeley, told The News. "But it is a step in the direction of recognition, which ultimately could lead to collective bargaining. This is not the end point," Shaiken said. "We don't know what's next. We're in unchartered territory."

VW reveals Outback-rivaling Golf Alltrack ahead of Paris

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is getting a baby brother at this year's 2014 Paris Motor Show in the form of a new Golf Alltrack. Like its larger sibling, the little wagon is supposed to offer light-duty off-road driving ability combined with a more rugged look to show it off.
To give the Golf Alltrack that soft-road ability, VW is outfitting the wagon with its latest 4Motion all-wheel drive system from Haldex. The setup can decouple power from the rear-axle when not needed to save fuel. To further improve traction, the Alltrack gets VW's electronic differential lock, and the car can individually brake its inside wheel during hard cornering for better handling.
Volkswagen also wants the Alltrack to be able to visually show that it can handle getting away from the pavement, even though it starts life as a standard Golf wagon. That means jacking up the suspension an extra 0.75 inches and adding black moldings all the way around the car. There are also redesigned bumpers for the front and rear and silver underbody protection, plus new accents like anodized roof rails and silver mirror caps. The interior is essentially unchanged from the wagon, except for altered trim and Alltrack badges.
