1968 Bay Window Volkswagen (Type II) Westfalia Camper

Bus originally from Sonora California  (19 - 22 MPG)

Trophy winner at local car show this month – Best overall car or truck (Thophy seen in picture)

Very early 1968 production VIN of a Series that stretched until 1979

1968-1971 buses use 1.6 Liter upright Beetle engine where later models used more expensive to maintain VW “Pan Cake” engine.

This Bus was rebuilt by a Detroit born Meticulous Powertrain Engineer.

This Bus has traveled 4,000 miles since restoration.

It is as strong and sound as a  46 year old bus can be.

We have taken this bus on the road to Drive Inn Movie Theaters, Camping, Woodward Dream Cruise and even to a Bob Dylan concert.

You simply cannot buy memories like this folks !

This bus comes with plenty of 1960’s psychedelic magnets (that hold on at 80 miles per hour)

Magnets can be applied or taken off in minutes. (See pictures)

If you want a perfect show piece that will just sit in the garage, this is not it.

If you are looking for a memory making bus that can travel the country and not leave you stranded,

the description below may convince you that you have found what you are looking for:

This cooler set up will increase engine life substantially

This makes a difference when running Stereo along with GPS, iPhone etc.

New Carburetor with last 200 miles

New Starter

New Battery

All tins are in place

Most agree that keeping stock air filtration is BETTER than changing paper air filter

New spark plugs

Heavy duty oil pump

Exhaust in great condition

Comes with spare points, condenser, accelerator cable (just in case)

Engine is in new condition and runs strong

Voltage, Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature gauges all work.

Tachometer works

New speedometer cable added because I hate when speedometer needle bounces

Odometer works and reads 67,XXX miles.

Beats me if it is actual, so I would assume not ?

Remote Oil cooler fan and switch installed if extra cooling is ever needed

Ignition key switches on Buses where prone to failure.

Because of this, a push Button starter switch was added on dash.

Also installed is a power to coil switch on dash as well.

-      Yes, the ignition key was bypassed on purpose.

-     Camping experience (failed ignition switch) in a previously owned 1971 bus was my guide to making this modification :o)

-    This Bus modification makes it so bus will always start at campsites that are FAR AWAY from civilization.

-    There is a FAT CHANCE that anyone would figure out how to start the Bus without instruction.

-  Easy to rewire ignition switch if you choose to

Exterior:

New deluxe windshield with tinting at the top (A “must have” for a VW Bus)

New windshield seal

All other glass is in great condition

Clean buses are a true find here in Michigan hence my reason for buying this California bus in the first place

One small hole was patched on passenger side fender when painted. The repair was made correctly

Undercarriage is in very nice shape

New (3) coats of high grade tough enamel white paint

(Scratches can easily be rubbed out when using enamel so head to the great outdoors with confidence)

Body work is not perfect but I have yet to see anyone notice

New external mirrors

New Headlights

Wipers – I have only one wiper which comes with the bus but took if off to increase visibility

Rain-Ex is good enough for race car drivers so that is what I use instead of wipers

Door locks – Front doors lock from inside but have never tried the key

Sliding door use to contact body. I have since touched up paint in this area.

New Hub caps

New Chrome exhaust tips

I have not used trailer hitch but I would not be afraid to because it is solid

All glass is good without cracks

Seals do not leak but are not new

Undercarriage is in great condition (see pictures)

Much thought and care was taken insure that this Bus could transport wife and small kids without issue.

4,000 carefree, memory making miles have proved this bus to be solid.

I sincerely hope that you use this bus as an opportunity to make memories with your loved ones as well………. It would be a waste of a great Vintage Bus not to.

Enjoy your adventures in a well sorted Bus ……

Auto sales in March and first quarter down nearly across the board

Wed, Apr 3 2019

Nearly every major automaker reported weak U.S. sales for March and the first quarter of 2019, citing a rough start to the year, but said a robust economy and strong labor market should encourage consumers to buy more vehicles as 2019 rolls on. GM, which no longer releases monthly sales figures, saw first-quarter sales fall 7 percent, with declines across all brands. Sales of Silverado pickup trucks fell nearly 16 percent and the high-margin Chevy Suburban large SUV dropped 25 percent. Ford also no longer releases monthly sales numbers, but is due to release its first-quarter sales figures on Thursday. According to industry data, Ford's sales fell 2 percent in the quarter and 5 percent in March. Ford representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. FCA reported a 7 percent fall in U.S. sales in March and a 3 percent drop for the first quarter. All of FCA's brands dropped in March, except for Ram, which saw a 15 percent increase in pickup truck sales. "The industry had a tough first quarter, but with spring finally starting to show its face and continued strong economic indicators ... we are confident that new vehicle sales demand will strengthen going forward," FCA's U.S. head of sales, Reid Bigland, said in a statement. Toyota reported a 3.5 percent fall in U.S. sales in March and 5 percent for the first quarter, hurt by declining demand for its Corolla sedans and Camry vehicles. "While some of our competitors are abandoning sedans, we remain optimistic about the future of the segment," Toyota said in a statement. Nissan posted a 5.3 percent drop in sales in March, and its first-quarter sales were down 11.6 percent. Honda and Hyundai bucked the trend. Honda's U.S. sales rose 4.3 percent in March and 2 percent in the quarter, while Hyundai's were up 1.7 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively. Passenger-car sales suffered throughout the January-March quarter compared with the same period in 2018 as Americans continued to abandon them in favor of larger, more comfortable pickup trucks and SUVs, which are far more profitable for automakers. The battle for market share in the particularly lucrative large-pickup truck market intensified in the quarter, as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Ram brand outsold the U.S.' No. 1 automaker General Motors' Chevrolet-brand trucks. The two automakers have both launched redesigned pickup trucks.

VW previews retouched 2014 Touareg for Beijing

Wed, 16 Apr 2014

Volkswagen is in New York this week showing off its new Jetta and Golf TDI SportWagen concept. But in less than a week, the German automaker will be off to China for the Beijing Motor Show, where it will showcase the revised Touareg you see here.
A subtle update on the Touareg that's been on the market in its current form for four years now, the facelifted model features reworked styling front and rear, an updated interior and a host of new technologies to keep it current in the highly competitive SUV market. Among those new features are larger bi-xenon headlights, coasting function, Google Maps integration and a post-collision braking system designed to prevent a second crash.
VW will offer the new Touareg with a variety of engines around the world, but in North America it'll carry over the same six-cylinder powertrain options as the outgoing model: a 3.6-liter V6 with 280 horsepower, a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 240 hp (though torque isn't listed, we'd expect around 406 pound-feet, same as last year) and a hybrid that marries a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 to an electric motor that combine to deliver 380 hp.

VW previews huge screens, gesture control with Golf R Touch Concept at CES

Tue, Jan 6 2015

Volkswagen is showing off the future of infotainment and connected driving at CES 2015 with a fleet of concepts that highlight its latest technology. According to its displays, the coming years might mean gesture-based vehicle controls and electric cars that drive themselves to find their own charging locations. VW's biggest debut at CES is its next-gen infotainment system, dubbed MIB II. The setup supports a wide array of smartphone integration standards, including MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, to make sure that practically every smartphone user can pair the device's interface with the vehicle. Beyond just keeping occupants entertained, MIB II offers a system called Regular Routes that detects traffic along the driver's regular commute to work and suggests alternatives. The Parking Guide also helps find parking spots that are likely open. If MIB II represents the near future of VW infotainment, then the technology on the Golf R Touch Concept is the next step from there. It takes the brand's hot hatch and adds support for gesture controls inside, plus a trio of massive infotainment screens. This R features a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, an 8-inch screen below it for things like the climate control and switching media and a customizable 12.3-inch display that digitizes the instrument panel. A camera in front of the central display waits for the driver's hands to make specific movements that activate various vehicle functions. Despite all of the potentially distracting screens, VW says the system offers control without requiring a look away from the road. VW hopes the technology reduces driver distraction and creates a closer relationship with the car. Another of the German automaker's big tech showcases is an e-Golf that demonstrates the potential future of both electric and semi-autonomous driving. This version can be charged inductively, rather than through a traditional power cord, and the exterior lights show when the vehicle is fully recharged. It's also equipped with the e-Station Guide that helps drivers find a charging location and tells them about the payment options there. This e-Golf's other major innovation is VW's Trained Parking system. A camera at the front scans the route to a parking space, and if the driver returns later, then the process can be done semi-automatically.
