Here is a beautiful 1966 vintage VW Microbus, restored according to maximum standards of professional restoration – top to bottom, inside and out. See Photos at 66vwbus.shutterfly.com. (under "recent activity) A rare bare metal restoration, it wears expensive interior and exterior paintwork with engine compartment and underside detailing, in one of VW’s coolest color combinations – Beige Grey over Sealing Wax Red. It is the more desirable walkthrough model, where passengers may move freely between cab seats to rear compartment. It has its original front floor rubber mat, walkthrough and passenger compartment mats. It is tastefully accessorized with other desirable options, including a complete safari window kit, early bus cab doorsteps and side steps, a repro Westfalia roof rack, rebuilt Sapphire radio and cute bud vase. It features a correct, complete vintage interior – original seat frames and interior panels with the addition of faithful reproduction seat covers and headliner – all professionally installed. It is a multiple Best of Show and Best In Class trophy winner. It has won Best in Class at every VW show it has entered, including Effingham, with Best of Show honors at NIVA and at several other foreign car shows. It is a genuine contender wherever it appears. It presents an excellent opportunity for the new enthusiast to climb aboard the current vintage VW Bus craze with a colorful, complete, and properly restored early VW Microbus at a very reasonable price. It is an absolute treasure, and I believe it will surely please the lucky winner of this auction. Major advantages: • Superior exterior paint restoration – absolutely first class. • Superior interior restoration – dash, floors and interior upholstery are beautiful. • Show-winning attention to detail – exceptionally clean engine compartment and underside. • Fresh vintage ride and drive – just 1800 miles since restoration. Other special items: Westfalia Roof Rack – EMPI reproduction. Safari window kit, complete with one-eyed duck blade stop and wiper arm pivots. Refurbished VW Sapphire/Bendix AM/FM radio. German bud vase on dash. Triple chromed Hubcaps Hubcap VW logo hand painted accents. Cab early bus doorsteps under front bumper blade ends. Side step beneath passenger compartment doors. Windshield washer bottle (inoperative). Original Hella headlight lenses Original SWF rear turn signal lenses New Hella front turn signal lenses Steering Wheel and Horn Button restored by Koch’s. Restored speedometer. Correct Silver White bumper paint. Engine door lock for extra security. Mechanically, this Microbus needs absolutely nothing. You can hop right in, turn the key and go down the road confidently. Its 1500cc single port engine has plenty of juice to run around town effortlessly, and its original gearbox and reduction boxes make the safe top end cruising speed approximately 55 mph. It is very economical, starts every time without hesitation and sounds great. The engine, gearbox, and all mechanical items including brakes and steering work flawlessly, and were all overhauled during restoration. Tires are 95%. The Microbus rides on four P205R75/R14 All Season radials. Its spare tire is safely secured in the tire well behind the rear seats. Exterior-wise, this attractive Microbus ranks among the very best of all exterior restorations I have seen. The restorer committed to an unusual and extremely difficult bare metal restoration – expending a great deal of time stripping the original paint from the body. The entire undercarriage was media blasted and, as was the original factory practice, it was painted with primer. Because the Microbus was originally an Arizona bus, there was no rust repair required, except for the battery tray which was replaced. After prep, the body was repainted in its original VW colors Beige Grey L360 (12) and Sealing Wax Red L680 (18). Its undercarriage and engine compartment were painted and detailed, and its dash and floors received new paint as well. The hubcaps are triple-chromed and were hand-painted with black VW accents. It looks phenomenal as you can see from the photos. Interior-wise, you will find one of the cleanest, most correct vintage interiors available on the market today. The middle seat still sports its original Salt ‘n Pepper (grey mesh) upholstery, with reproduction upholstery on front and rear seats. Seat frames were stripped and repainted prior to recovering. Front door panels are reproductions with the original chrome trim pieces, as are the passenger compartment panels. All other interior panels are original. Dash and package tray were stripped and repainted. The new headliner was installed with all of the correct folds and overlaps using the original as a guide. Covering the floors are all of the rubber mats that are original to the Microbus and are in excellent condition after over forty years. New seat stand mats with two new lap belts for front seats. We have the original middle seat with correct kick panel. Rear kick panel is present. All rubber in the Bus was replaced during restoration, including all window seals, door seals, light and lens seals, and engine seals. Correct dash and radio knobs, shifter knob, and emergency brake shaft button. Speedometer/odometer, fuel gauge and dash indicators all work properly and are well lit. Working windshield wipers and horn. Steering Wheel and Horn Button restored by Koch’s. Dash is beautiful and uncut. Safari window kit is complete with one-eyed duck wiper blade rest and pivot fittings for wiper arms. VW Security door, pop-out, side and rear window glass and Hella headlight lenses are free of chips or cracks. Pop-out window latches open and close properly. Outside rearview mirrors are in good condition. All sliding window felt and window locks are in good condition. Electrical system was converted to the more reliable 12-volt system, with alternator. Sapphire/Bendix radio was restored and works with its in-dash speaker. All interior and exterior lights, including low and high headlight beams, turn signals, both dome lights and dash indicator lights are in good order. All doors, including passenger compartment doors, cargo and engine doors and hinges open and close properly. All door locks function properly and are operated with the ignition key. Separate key for engine door lock.

Peugeot will prove it doesn't offer cheater diesels

Thu, Oct 29 2015

Our diesels are clean, really. That's the message from French automaker PSA/Peugeot-Citroen as it plans to go on the offensive in response to Volkswagen's diesel-emissions scandal. PSA will go out of its way to prove its diesels are as clean as advertised. The company is looking at disclosing "real-world" fuel-economy statistics as soon as next spring and will use an independent entity to vet the numbers, Automotive News Europe says, citing comments that PSA/Peugeot-Citroen financial chief Jean-Baptiste de Chatillon made to reporters this week. Such efforts may be vital, since roughly two-thirds of the vehicles Peugeot-Citroen sells in Europe are powered by a diesel engine. Last month, VW admitted that as many as 11 million of its diesel-powered vehicles were programmed with software designed to cheat emissions-testing systems. The news shook up the industry, especially companies that sell a good chunk of diesels. The EU itself may start instituting "real world" fuel-economy and emissions testing as soon as 2017. French regulators have said they may eliminate diesel-fuel subsidies that currently make diesel fuel cheaper to customers than gas. That adjustment may occur as soon as next year, since it's been pushed up in response to the VW scandal. Peugeot-Citron continues to reiterate that it has never installed software that was designed to cheat emissions-testing systems. Additionally, the automaker was more than a decade ahead of European Union mandates for engine components designed to cut soot emissions, so the company is hoping its track record makes a difference. It wants to be perfectly clear about that. Defying Trump, major automakers finalize California emissions deal

Tue, Aug 18 2020

WASHINGTON — The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and major automakers on Monday confirmed they had finalized binding agreements to cut vehicle emissions in the state, defying the Trump administration's push for weaker curbs on tailpipe pollution. The agreements with carmakers Ford Motor Co, Volkswagen AG, Honda Motor Co and BMW AG were first announced in July 2019 as voluntary measures prompting anger from U.S. President Donald Trump. A month later, the Justice Department opened an antitrust probe into the agreements. The government ended the investigation without action. The Trump administration in March finalized a rollback of U.S. vehicle emissions standards to require 1.5% annual increases in efficiency through 2026. That is far weaker than the 5% annual increases in the discarded rules adopted under President Barack Obama. The 50-page California agreements, which extend through 2026, are less onerous than the standards finalized by the Obama administration but tougher than the Trump administration standards. The automakers have also agreed to electric vehicle commitments. Volvo Cars, owned by China's Geely Holdings, said in March it planned to join the automakers agreeing to the California requirements. It has also finalized its agreement. The settlement agreements say California and automakers agreed to resolve "potential legal disputes concerning the authority of CARB" and other states that have adopted California's standards. In May, a group of 23 U.S. states led by California and some major cities, challenged the Trump vehicle emissions rule. Other major automakers like General Motors Co, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Toyota Motor Corp did not join the California agreement. Those companies also sided with the Trump administration in a separate lawsuit over whether the federal government can strip California of the right to set zero emission vehicle requirements. Ford said the "final agreement will reduce emissions in our vehicles at a more stringent rate, support and incentivize the production of electrified products, and create regulatory certainty." BMW said "by setting these long-term, predictable, and achievable standards, we have the regulatory certainty that is necessary for long-term planning that will not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but ultimately benefit consumers as well."

Child cobalt miners: Automakers pledge ethical minerals sourcing for EVs

Wed, Nov 29 2017

BERLIN - Leading carmakers including Volkswagen and Toyota pledged on Wednesday to uphold ethical and socially responsible standards in their purchases of minerals for an expected boom in electric vehicle production. Demand for minerals such as cobalt, graphite and lithium is forecast to soar in the coming years as governments crack down on vehicle pollution and carmakers step up their investments in electric models. To cover its plans for more than 80 new models by 2025, Volkswagen alone is looking for partners in China, Europe and North America to provide battery cells and related technology worth more than 50 billion euros ($59 billion). Talks with major cobalt producers, including Glencore, at VW's Wolfsburg headquarters last week ended without a deal. More than half of the world's cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country racked by political instability and legal opacity, and where child labor is used in mines. On Wednesday, a group of 10 leading passenger-car and truck manufacturers announced an initiative to jointly identify and address ethical, environmental, human and labor rights issues in raw materials sourcing. The partnership dubbed "Drive Sustainability" consists of VW, Toyota Motor Europe, Ford, Daimler, BMW, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo Cars and truckmakers Scania and Volvo. The alliance "will assess the risks posed by the top raw materials (such as mica, cobalt, rubber and leather) in the automotive sector," said Stefan Crets of the CSR Europe business network. "This will allow Drive Sustainability to identify the most impactful activities to pursue" to address issues within the supply chain.Reporting by Andreas Cremer.Related Video: Image Credit: Michael Robinson Chavez/The Washington Post via Getty Images Green BMW Ford Honda Jaguar Land Rover Mercedes-Benz Automakers Toyota Volkswagen Volvo Green Automakers Green Culture Electric Scania ethics mining
