You are bidding on a 1963 VW Vanagon Custom Conversion.  This gorgeous conversion was created by a dedicated team of experts in Southern CA. The six month restoration/conversion was undertaken by taking a Southern CA bus and making it into a Double Cab Pickup with Custom Features.  The restoration is stunning and was completed in September with less than 100 miles since completion.

The Rear upper body (rear side doors back) was removed to convert to a pickup and the upper back window area was cut out and welded in behind the rear seat.  The conversion gives this ride an amazing and functional transformation, while leaving the original integrity to the body structure.  The side trim roll from the original body was welded in under the back window to give it a really nice complete look.

This Pickup bed area has endless possibilities and we left it so the next owner can modify to his/her needs.  In contrast to the normal beds on these pickups this bed is really functional for a storage area that goes to the frame and a flat bed area on the rear end.  Fixed sides make it more like a real pickup truck, rather than the industrial/utilitarian look of the original VW pickups.  When people see this smooth tapered look with the gorgeous wood trim they just go “WHOA”... it’s really cool and the way it “should” look.

We considered adding a locking hatch into the front bed area but left it open.  This is a really cool area to fill with ice/drinks or a keg.  Also would be perfect for someone with a business that carries tools or parts and could build a locking hatch.

Want a really cool surfboard hauler... this is it.  The rear compartment area would be cool to set boards in nose first into the leading edge of the compartment leaning the tail up and over the upper bed edge at an angle.  Surfers could build a locking system so that their boards could be mounted at an angle and locked in place; awesome board hauler with a little thought and fabrication.

The interior is just like a Standard Crew Cab or Bus to the back window; enhanced by a complete brand new custom interior.  Seats, Door Panels, Headliner, everything was attended to and complements the exterior to perfection.  Also, the Interior Dash Area was completely stripped and painted to match the exterior.    This floors and trunk were all rhino coated for durability and sound proofing.

Paint & Body

The vehicle started out as a really nice rust free Bus and was converted after being completely stripped to bare metal.  The body was primered then blocked to a laser straight appearance several times.  All door gaps and panels are precise and more exacting than factory original.

Keeping with the 60‘s look in paint seven coats of  Valspar Single Stage Paint was applied followed by a week of color sanding and buffing, resulting in a superlative paint finish with zero orange peel and mirror like in any lighting configuration.  I tried to take pictures in low light and in sunlight to give the viewer a feel for the vibrant colors and depth of paint finish.

The wheels were also stripped to metal and re-painted the same color as the body.  New period correct hubcaps were added.

Mechanical

The Engine runs extremely strong.  It was rebuilt within the last year with less than a couple of thousand miles.  The brakes are excellent, with new brake lines and brake cylinders.  The transmission shifts smooth with no issues.  Brand new tires.  The Electrical System is all new from one end to the other.

Here’s a little Party Bus, Surf-Mobile, Work Vehicle or all of the above and more.  This VW is DONE and ready for you to enjoy.

VW readying CC Shooting Brake?

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

This was bound to happen. Volkswagen's relentless drive for big volume has the brand mining seemingly every niche it can find for additional sales worldwide. And with its CLS Shooting Brake, fellow countryman Mercedes-Benz has already shown that a wagon based off of a "four-door coupe" can look dead sexy and command extra dollars. So it follows that the Volkswagen CC (whose existence is all but directly attributable to the success of the original CLS sedan) will also get a load-lugging variant. That's according to the UK's Autocar, which notes that the five-door will come in the CC's next generation.
According to the report, the next CC will be available in front and all-wheel drive variants with the usual assortment of gas and diesel four-cylinders found in the Wolfsburg empire, with the possibility of a gas plug-in hybrid model, too. The rakish estate will ride atop VW's MQB architecture, a shorter variant of which is also found underneath the new Golf. The scalable chassis is set to spread like kudzu throughout the company's lineup, but the CC probably won't happen until after the launch of the next European-market Passat in 2015.
Will we get it in North America? Hard to say. Volkswagen sells the standard CC saloon here, but not in particularly large numbers, and when the company moved to a North American-specific Passat, it dumped the wagon variant. The traditional VW estate apparently continues to pick up sales momentum abroad, however, making the CC Shooting Brake a seemingly natural fit for buyers who still want the utility of a two-box form but can afford to sacrifice a bit of cargo room in the name of style.

Automakers face reality of EVs' cost — to jobs, and their bottom line

Tue, Sep 12 2017

Related: We obsessively covered the Frankfurt Motor Show — here's our complete coverage FRANKFURT, Germany — European car bosses gathering for the Frankfurt auto show are beginning to address the realities of mass vehicle electrification, and its consequences for jobs and profit, their minds focused by government pledges to outlaw the combustion engine. As the latest such announcement by China added momentum to a push for zero-emissions motoring, Daimler, Volkswagen and PSA Group gave details about their electric programs that could give policymakers some pause. Planned electric Mercedes models will initially be just half as profitable as conventional alternatives, Daimler warned — forcing the group to find savings by outsourcing more component manufacturing, which may in turn threaten German jobs. "In-house production is almost irrelevant to the consumer," Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche told reporters on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show, in the midst of a German election campaign in which automotive jobs have loomed large. The company set a target of saving 4 billion euros ($4.8 billion) by 2025 to help fund the cost of its electric cars. "Daimler is the first company to state explicitly how much electric vehicles are going to hurt margins," said Bernstein analyst Max Warburton. "It was brave to go first — but of course it won't be the last." Volkswagen, for its part, said it was seeking new global supplier contracts to source 50 billion euros ($60 billion) of electric car content including batteries, which are not yet manufactured competitively in Europe. "A company like Volkswagen must lead, not follow," Chief Executive Matthias Mueller told reporters. VW diesel emissions-cheating exposed by U.S. regulators in 2015 triggered global public outrage, dozens more investigations into test-rigging by the wider industry and a push by some lawmakers to ban diesel and eventually all engines. TIGHTENING NOOSE Tesla shares jumped nearly 6 percent on Monday after a Chinese minister said it was a question of when, not if, Beijing bans fossil-fuel cars, tightening the noose around the combustion engine. France and Britain have promised its outright abolition by 2040. But PSA, the maker of Peugeots and Citroens, said it was concerned about the risks if consumers were left behind in the rush, and a new generation of battery cars does not sell.

UAW Falls 87 Votes Short Of Major Victory In South

Sat, Feb 15 2014

Just 87 votes at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee separated the United Auto Workers union from what would have been its first successful organization of workers at a foreign automaker in the South. Instead of celebrating a potential watershed moment for labor politics in the region, UAW supporters were left crestfallen by the 712-626 vote against union representation in the election that ended Friday night. The result stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches. The loss is a major setback for the UAW's effort to make inroads in the growing South, where foreign automakers have 14 assembly plants, eight built in the past decade, said Kristin Dziczek, director of the labor and industry group at the Center for Automotive Research, an industry think tank in Michigan. "If this was going to work anywhere, this is where it was going to work," she said of the Volkswagen vote. Organizing a Southern plant is so crucial to the union that UAW President Bob King told workers in a speech that the union has no long-term future without it. The loss means the union remains largely quarantined with the Detroit Three in the Midwest and Northeast. Many viewed VW as the union's best chance to gain a crucial foothold in the South because other automakers have not been as welcoming as Volkswagen. Labor interests make up half of the supervisory board at VW in Germany, and they questioned why the Chattanooga plant is the company's only major factory worldwide without formal worker representation. VW wanted a German-style "works council" in Chattanooga to give employees a say over working conditions. The company says U.S. law won't allow it without an independent union. In Chattanooga, the union faced stern opposition from Republican politicians who warned that a UAW victory would chase away other automakers who might come to the region. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee was the most vocal opponent, saying that he was told that VW would soon announce plans to build a new SUV in Chattanooga if workers rejected the union. That was later denied by a VW executive, who said the union vote had no bearing on expansion decisions. Other state politicians threatened to cut off state incentives for the plant to expand if the union was approved.
