Drive around in something that’s one of a kind! What a Christmas Gift!

Anyone can have a shiny paint job and worry about door dings! Get a bus that you can drive daily and has a boat load of character! We take her to shows and everyone swarms the bus!  All the other cars wonder why your getting all the attention!

My wife wants air conditioning! Happy wife, happy life! So my baby needs to go... Just recently thought through the fact that I’ve got over 40K invested in this bus - Maybe that’s why the wife wants to sell it!!! I’ve had the bus since 2006 and finally got her on the road 3 years ago. Since then, I drive the bus to work about once a week and to car shows - 12,500 miles over the past three years.

I had always hoped to stumble on a solid “barn find” that was logo’d - patina'd on the outside, a time capsule on the inside. I've always liked the look of rust, but not the disintegration of real rust. A bus with a surf vibe, tiki touches and a little hot rod, too. Oh yeah, the bus had to be a 1962 - the same year I was born. Good luck finding that in one bus, so I decided to create it myself!

The first step was rust repair, so I called a friend of mine, Mike Stafford of MGS Custom Bikes. He specialized in metal fabrication and building custom $100,000 Harleys. The next year was spent stripping, cutting, welding metal throughout the bus. We installed 3” front tubs for good suspension travel, repaired the cut wheel wells, welded in one window, changed the turn signals, custom made a new spare tire well in the rear package area, fabricated fender skirts, added a 1958 engine lid with 3rd brake light. This was followed by a six month trip to Pacific Powder Coating, where a number of parts were powder coated. The bus was also mounted on a rotisserie, where they media blasted underneath and inside the bus. Pacific Powder Coating primed all the areas and shot the bus with bed liner material to seal it from any future rust. When the powder coating was done, the bus was returned to my house for assembly. Added Dynamat sound deadening material throughout the bus. From there the bus was painted and then sanded to give it a patina’d look, faux rust was added and a flat clear coat.

Here’s a list of some of the improvements...

Mechanical:

Every bolt on this bus has been touched - Kaddie Shack 1600cc engine, Rancho freeway flyer trans, Creative Engineering rack-n-pinion steering (raises steering box 2.5" without cutting frame), Wagenswest 4” narrowed 4” dropped spindle front end with Mustang II Disc Brakes, Wagenswest adjustable swing axle plates, 3” tubbed front wheel wells, Type 3 rear brakes, mid-frame mounted electric oil cooler, Wolfgang stainless front & rear safari windows, Vintage Speed muffler and shifter. HID headlights, new wiring harness throughout, plexi-glass vintage visors. All new rubber throughout and camper windows rebuilt. Roof rack is included along with the folding ladder.

Interior:

Tiki dash knobs, Hawaiian surfboard headliner with Aloha fabric, “Bomber”style bucket seats, “finned” accent engine pieces, fender skirts, traffic light “peek” reflector, “blue dot” turn lens, reproduction surf decals, red jewel antenna, under dash burger tray, and of course a dash mounted 1940’s hula girl. The couch folds out into a double bed. Hidden beverage cooler, sliding cooking shelf, and storage cabinets ready to camp. The custom bamboo door panels are from www.calibamboo.com. The curtains, pillows, and even the Sunbrella awning is included.

Yes, that is a 1940 Ford Steering wheel, the bumperettes are from a 1954 Hudson Hornet, and the dash bag is from a Harley-Davidson. The VW emblem on the rear hatch is an original, available only in Canada from 1954-1963.

All my accessories go with this bus! - Folding wood picnic table, vintage lantern, vintage stove, vintage area heater, vintage Canada Dry cooler, vintage water jug, vintage suitcase, Hawaiian picnic basket, Tiki statue. I'll even throw in my Vintage Owl longboard if you want it!

PLEASE NO TRADES - unless you’ve got a sweet, air conditioned, crate engine, air-ride tin woodie, I’m not interested. The best way to contact me is through email - I’m a teacher by day and can’t answer my phone while I’m at work.

The Bus is located in Palmdale, California (93550) just north of Los Angeles. I have the right to end this auction early due to vehicle for sale locally.

Don’t let this one slip away! Good luck and happy bidding.

Recharge Wrap-up: Toyota Prius airbag recall, Peugeot launches eU01s e-bike

Fri, Sep 16 2016

Toyota is recalling 7,600 Prius vehicles for an airbag issue. Certain examples of the 2016 Prius could have malfunctioning inflators that could cause the passenger side airbags to deploy accidentally. There are no known injuries from the faulty airbags, but Toyota says, "This has been observed when the vehicle is parked and unoccupied for a period of time." Toyota also says this issue is unrelated to the massive recall of airbags supplied by Takata. The automaker will contact affected owners to arrange free repairs. Read more at Automotive News. Peugeot is adding another e-bike to its portfolio with the eU01s. What sets this electrically assisted bicycle apart from both regular bikes and other pedelecs is its ability to propel the bike to 28 mph under electric power. It comes with either a 400- or 500-Wh lithium-ion battery, providing 47 or 59 miles of range, respectively. It also offers an optional on-board computer with its 4.3-inch screen, through which riders can customize the electric assistance, get directions, receive sports coaching, and connect their smartphone. Earlier this year, Peugeot also launched its e-Kick scooter and folding eF01 e-bike. Read more at Green Car Congress. BYD is expanding its manufacturing facility in the US. In the second of three phases for the plant, BYD is adding onto its factory in Lancaster, California, where it currently builds electric buses. The Chinese company plans to triple the number of employees, up from the current 400, as it expands the facility by 40,000 square feet. BYD plans to build medium- and heavy-duty trucks at the plant, but declined to comment on whether it has plans to build light-duty vehicles there. Read more at Automotive News. The German states of Hesse and Baden-Wuerttemberg are suing Volkswagen over the Dieselgate scandal. The states are joining other investors seeking damages over losses incurred because of the automaker's emissions cheat device. Hesse Finance Minister Thomas Schaefer said the scandal cost the state about $4.4 million in stock losses, while Baden-Wuerttemberg likely lost closer to $450,000. Bavaria said earlier that it would sue Volkswagen on behalf of its pension fund for civil servants, which lost around $780,000. Read more from Automotive News Europe.

2014 Volkswagen GTI to start a new hot hatch era in Geneva

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

The upcoming Geneva Motor Show is going to be stocked with important new production models and sexy concept cars, but hot hatch enthusiasts will undoubtedly see it as the coming out party of the MkVII Volkswagen GTI. And while we've only got European specifications and pricing to go on for now, we can tell from the get-go that the new GTI will be a proper heir to VW's hot hatch legacy.
This seventh-generation GTI is powered by a turbocharged, direct-injection 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in base form. For the first time ever, Volkswagen is also offering a performance pack for the GTI as well, which ups the horsepower to 230 (torque remains unchanged). With a slightly lower curb weight to push around - the new base car weighs 2,978 pounds versus 3,034 for the current three-door GTI - 0-62 miles per hour is now achieved in 6.5 seconds, and top speed is 153 mph. (Cars with the performance pack offer 0-62 mph in 6.4 seconds, and a 155-mph top speed.) Buyers my choose between a six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed DSG unit.
Visually, the new GTI has obviously adopted the slant-nosed looks of the MkVII Golf, though with plenty of added drama. The exterior is dominated by the 17-inch "Brooklyn" wheels wearing 225-section rubber, and the aggressive front fascia gets black honeycombed inserts in the upper and lower grille sections. At launch, Volkswagen will offer the GTI in three colors: the Pure White seen here, Tornado Red and Black. Tartan patterned seats are of course still an option for the interior, while the GTI-specific steering wheel and shift knob are standard.

VW using other manufacturing locations as leverage in battle with TN [w/video]

Sat, 26 Apr 2014

We've reached a new step in the ongoing drama at Volkswagen's factory in Chattanooga, TN. The United Auto Workers recently dropped its opposition to the union vote and agreed that it wouldn't hold another ballot for at least a year. Now, the new question becomes where VW is going to build its forthcoming midsize SUV.
Earlier, it had been considered all but certain that the SUV, likely a production version of the CrossBlue concept (pictured above), would be built in Tennessee. However, it seems the Chattanooga factory might have competition to produce it. In emails obtained by The Detroit News, VW's lawyer wrote to the Tennessee economic development department in January saying, "While we understand there are some 'non-deal' issues that are causing a delay in the TN solution, VW has been successful in reaching agreement on terms at the alternative locations."
As previously reported, the state of Tennessee allegedly offered VW about $300 million in incentives to build the vehicle there and create an estimated 1,350 jobs, but it later rescinded the deal. Newly leaked documents from NewsChannel 5 (WTVF-TV) in Nashville allegedly show just how close that offer was to being completed. It appears that VW actually sent the government the first draft of a memorandum of understanding agreeing to the incentives, but the state removed the offer in late January.
