1960 Mango Walk Thru Most Metal Work Done !!! on 2040-cars
Tallahassee, Florida, United States
This is a 1960 walk thru Mango bus that has had most all of the lower metal work replaced and the paint touched up very nicely to match the original color .The bus has a later beetle motor that runs strong and the bus drives and stops as is . I have a link to many pics of the different metal work which is all very well done as far as the body goes it is very solid . The doors still need a lot of work , The drivers door frame is very rusty I think it needs to be replaced or maybe use this skin on another frame. There are two passenger doors the one on the bus now is ok but has dings but matches the bus . The two side doors both need work the inside top of the rear side door is very rusty . The hatch door has had some welding and is in OK shape but still needs some work . The body has dings and a lot of surface rust on the upper parts but it is solid and has been treated with something to treat and stop further rust , IT IS NOT CRUSTY IT IS SOLID ONLY A COUPLE SMALL PIN HOLES . I have most window parts but missing a vent window and a couple side windows the glass is busted . The Passenger back corner was dented but has been dollied back out fairly smooth and the lower bottom corner is new metal but has not been Painted it has just surface rust . The long outter rocker has been welded but no bondo was put there just the welding smoothed and the touchup paint so its a little wavy but again it matches the look of the bus.The nice fellow I bought the bus from did all the work and had on planned on leaving it pretty much as is as far as the paint goes which it does look cool or you could touch up as much of the rusty parts as you wanted but I would try to keep it an original paint mango bus. I only have the drivers seat back frame no other seat parts. The bus does shift but it needs all new shift bushings but all gears work. The brakes do work fine and has had some brake work you can see in the pics. The wiring looks like it will work but most has not been tried out . It does have a very beat up back bumper. Some of the underside needs to be rust treated and painted but all the rusty metal has been replaced. The Bus will start , drive and stop but needs work still to be a driver . This is a cool bus . I DO NOT HAVE A TITLE IT ONLY COMES WITH A BILL OF SALE IT HAS NOT BEEN ON THE ROAD IN MANY YEARS . This may still be a long thread on the Samba about all the work done to this bus with many details about the work . Price is firm if interested you can call if you like 850 264-5395 BILL in tallahassee |

Recharge Wrap-up: VW exec predicts EVs with 375-mile range
Wed, Oct 8 2014Volkswagen says EV ranges over 300 miles aren't too far in the future. Plug-in hybrids are merely a bridge to all-electric mobility becoming more practical for people who need to travel longer distances, according to Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Volkswagen's head of powertrain development. Energy density is increasing rapidly in new batteries. Speaking about the e-Golf, Neusser says, "I expect the next generation in 2015-17 will increase to around 300 km [186 miles] and the following step will be around 500-600 km [310-372 miles]." Neusser also says he believes that charging infrastructure will improve to catch up with these more advanced batteries. Read more at Motoring. BMW is offering higher incentives for the all-electric i3 than the range-extended version. More buyers are opting for the i3 REx, with its 78 extra miles of range. So, to move the standard i3 (which is already cheaper), BMW is offering $2,000 in incentives for October - double what is offered for the i3 REx. The added incentives help close the price gap between the BMW and other EVs with similar ranges. The deals won't last long, though. According to New Jersey BMW salesman Manny Antunes, BMW's current incentives are "as aggressive as they're going to get" for a while. Read more at Green Car Reports. Honda is changing its research and development process for all cars after a series of Fit Hybrid recalls. The hybrid version, which makes up more than half of all Fit sales in Japan, was the subject of four recalls within nine months. In response, Honda will change the way it develops cars worldwide, with one extra "gate" to pass in the process. Honda will do prototype testing earlier in the research process to see how separately developed components work together before moving onto the car's development phase. It will add time and cost to making cars, but Honda hopes it will help prevent problems - like those that come with a flurry of recalls - down the road. Read more at Automotive News. Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.
Five reasons to love, or hate, the culture of German cars
Thu, Mar 5 2015A few months back, we took a 500-foot view of the culture of American cars, dissecting prides and prejudices on our way to the conclusion that automotive allegiances can be simultaneously embraced and derided. We had so much fun with the narrative that we decided to do it again, this time taking a look at Germany and its world-renowned lineup of automakers, including the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen, among others. Join us below as we discuss the points and counterpoints that make or have made the German auto industry what it is today. And remember, Germany did pretty much invent the automobile, after all... The V12 Engine If America is known for the proliferation of the V8 engine, an argument could be made that Germany owns the V12. Yes, of course, other companies have created V12 engines – Ferrari, Jaguar and Lamborghini immediately come to mind – but the big 12-cylinder powerplants from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, in particular, have proven to be some of the most effortless, luxurious and downright over-built engines the world has ever seen. These days, having 12 cylinders is more a case of wretched excess than ever before, and yet, you can still stroll into your local BMW or Mercedes dealership and get a brand-new 760i, S600 or even an over-the-top G65 AMG, efficiency be damned. Best of all, since the majority of these German powerhouses depreciate as fast as an anchor sinks, nearly any auto enthusiast who dreams of a dozen cylinders can satisfy their carnal desires. Current Star: 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 View 28 Photos Diesel Engines Remember how we talked about those glorious V12 engines? Well, you can even get one from Audi that runs on diesel. If your compression-ignition fantasies err more on the side of fuel savings, that's no problem, either. Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen have got you covered, with engines starting as small as 800 cubic centimeters (Smart Fortwo). If you want something a little more practical, it's hard to argue with a VW Golf TDI, which will provide plenty of space for you and three of your best friends, plus a fair bit of luggage, all while returning 50-ish miles per gallon. For the purposes of this discussion, we'd rather focus on the asinine levels of torque provided by Germany's high-end diesel engines than the lower-end fuel sippers.
