Back in the mid 60's, there was so much demand for the VW Camper Vans, the factory couldn't keep up. An American company, Riviera stepped in and convert base model VW buses with their version of a VW Campmobile - Hence, the Riviera Version. This is an fine example of that product and I made every effort to keep everything original This bus is in amazing condition for being 46yrs old, but there are some things with some wear and tear. E.g. seats (see picture) and there is a small rock chip on the split windshield
I bought the bus from the 2nd owner, with only 82375 miles and he told me they were original miles. I believe it. In the restoration there were many objects and items that had factory numbers on them.
Body
There were two small spots of rust: 1" in front passenger floorboard and some small spots below cargo doors. Both were repaired with welded steel. That was it for the entire bus. The only damage I am aware of was in the front, where there had been a very minor accident. I had this repaired and repainted the entire car back to original color scheme. There was also several parking lot dings. The aluminum windows were taken out at this time and re-polished.
INTERIOR
Doors and interior were paneled with DYNAMAT to reduce road noise. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The original Riviera wood panels were re-sealed. Linoleum floors were replace with non-aspestos tiles. The sink and seat consoles can be easily removed should one want to use it as a "Van"
ENGINE
Overhauled. Pistons were upgraded to 1600cc and dual port heads, which were CC'd to exact size on both banks. Rods and Pistons matched and balanced. Ending compression was 125psi for all cylinders.
GAS TANK - Removed, refurbished, new sensor
RUNNING GEAR
Bearings were replaced in the reduction gears. Trans - nothing done as it was still tight

Many other things done, but you will have to call me.  575 534 7995
This bus is the last of the COOL split window buses and it was the first to be fitted with Factory 12V. Everything works: All running lights, night lights, interior lights, windshield wipers, horn and radio (sometimes intermittent - will have it factory rebuilt) - A GREAT CAR!

VW budget sub-brand stuck in limbo over VW standards, costs

Sat, 01 Mar 2014

Reports in October 2012 claimed Volkswagen had begun investigating the creation of its own budget brand. This came after having failed to purchase Malaysian car company Proton or produce a meaningful partnership with Suzuki, and after watching Renault-Nissan make piles of euro on Dacia and plot the return of Datsun.
For VW, more important than the question of what to call it was how to build it profitably and in a way that didn't damage the VW brand. According to a report in Autocar, a satisfactory answer still hasn't been found. The hurdle is how to hit "'necessary' quality and safety levels" at the price points needed to make the venture worthwhile. At the time of the 2012 report, German outlet Der Spiegel said VW was trying to get prices down to 6,000 to 8,000 euro ($7,784 to $10,379 US), about two thousand to four thousand euro under the price of the VW Up and in line with the cost of a 6,790-euro Dacia Sandero in Germany.
In March 2013, VW announced, "We want to bring a true budget car to the market in China in the foreseeable future," the most concrete move in that direction after years of planning to make a decision. Working with local Chinese maker FAW, it was predicted that the vehicle in question would appear around 2016, but as of November last year a final vote on it needed to wait until this year because "We are still working on the cost side" and profit possibilities for a car that "has to be durable, it has to be precise, it has to be safe."

Volkswagen rules out Eos successor

Fri, Jan 16 2015

When Volkswagen introduced the Eos back in 2006, hard-top convertibles were all the rage – in North America, in Europe and around the world. But the trend, billed at the time as the best of both worlds, has long since subsided, leading to VW axing the Eos several months ago. And don't count on it getting a successor at some point down the line, either. At the Detroit Auto Show earlier this week, VW R&D chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser told Autocar that the Eos is down for the count. In fact it is "maybe the first model we take out of the market" in a reversal of the momentum that has seen the German automaker expand its lineup incrementally over the past several years – although the Chrysler-built Routan minivan was also canceled around the same time. The place the Eos occupied in VW's North American lineup is largely being taken by the more charismatic Beetle Convertible, and in Europe and other markets by the Golf Cabriolet that's still based on the previous-generation hatchback. The Eos, however, isn't the only hard-top convertible withdrawn from the market in recent years. Tin-top cabrios like the Lexus IS and SC, Cadillac XLR, Chrysler 200, Pontiac G6 and Volvo C70 have all gone the way of the dodo – as have Euro-market coupe-convertibles versions of models like the Ford Focus, Opel Astra, and Peugeot 207. The arrival of the Buick Cascada just goes to show that soft-roofed convertibles have won out, particularly as far as four-seat cabrios are concerned. The one notable exception where folding hard-tops are still gaining traction is among mid-engined exotic supercars like the Ferrari 458 and McLaren 650S, both of which opted for solid folding roofs instead of fabric ones. We've yet to see, however, which approach Lamborghini will take with the Huracan Spyder or Audi will with the next-generation R8, the predecessors of both of which featured fabric roofs.

Volkswagen to add 50k jobs by 2018

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

Volkswagen still has its eyes set on becoming the top global automaker by 2018, and to get there, it's apparently going to need more boots on the ground. Automotive News Europe is reporting that VW is looking to increase its staff by 50,000 over the next five years - an increase of nine percent - which does not include an increase in its US dealer network.
According to the report, a majority of the growth will come from China where the automaker is also looking to double its production capacity in the same time frame. The Volkswagen Group is already expected to rival General Motors for the top sales spot in China this year, and such a rapid expansion in the region could make a good springboard for sales increases in other countries.
