Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Sedan on 2040-cars
Keller, Washington, United States
1967 Volkswagen Beetle - a turn-key pristine drive anywhere - needs nothing - '67 Bug - not to be repeated, this is the best of the best. I would not be selling it except that family responsibilities take precedent at this time in my life. Although, if you're looking for a concours restoration, this is not your car - this is a modern interpretation of what a bug could have been in 1967 - say a sports version for that year...1776 cid with dual carbs...it goes very, very well...I've driven it less than 2000 miles since I purchased it in 2008. It cruises at 70 MPH on the freeway - all day long...it is a Southern California Beetle and this is very evident in the restoration, mechanically it is perfect, it retains original glass and the body is as new, it is spectacular, no excuses - there are two tiny cosmetic flaws - one is the alarm key receptacle that was left on the front driver side fender wall, the other a scratch on the passenger side front wheel where a bicyclist decided to get too close when the car was parked - other than these two small blemishes, it is truly a Bug that is better than when it was new - at 48 years old you would not believe the condition, must be seen to be appreciated - none finer. I bought this beetle from a LA County (Deputy) Sheriff in 2008 - he had restored the car for his girlfriend at the time, the relationship did not last the time of restoration and afterwards it just reminded him of her so he had to sell it...he completed a body off restoration and completely rebuilt every aspect of the car - this is truly an exceptional example that should be seen and driven to be appreciated - it is surely better than when it was new. The engine runs perfectly and the car needs nothing, finding a Bug in this condition is very rare, everything, all parts on the car are german parts - original VW parts, even the bumpers are the heavy steel German bumpers - nothing has been overlooked, the jack, spare and wrench are with the car.

Volkswagen could build plug-in hybrids in China
Sun, Apr 6 2014When you're Europe's largest automaker and your largest global market happens to be the one most notorious for its pollution (China), some solutions just present themselves. Volkswagen may be heeding that call. During the upcoming Beijing Motor Show, the company is expected to announce plans to produce plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in China, Reuters says, citing sources within the company. Few details have emerged, though the plug-ins will likely be produced at VW's Foshan factory in South China, which currently makes the Golf and Audi A3 and has plans to eventually make 600,000 vehicles annually. News has been percolating for a while, as Oliver Schmidt, general manager engineering and environmental office for Volkswagen Group of America, said last March that the company was planning at least two plug-in hybrid lines under the VW badge (and another three with its Audi and Porsche affiliates), including possibly a Touareg and Jetta PHEV. VW said late last month that it was looking to speed up development of "particularly eco-friendly models" made by Shanghai Volkswagen as well as developing a "new, very eco-friendly vehicle" with First Automotive Works (FAW). Earlier this year, VW unveiled its Golf GTE plug-in hybrid at the Geneva Motor Show. That model has a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor to provide 201 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The car can travel as many as 81 miles on electric power alone.
Volkswagen Golf R Variant ready to haul ass, stuff
Thu, Nov 20 2014Volkswagen seems to be playing a cruel trick on the American automotive public at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It's displaying its sexy Golf R Variant with no clear intention of actually selling the model here. The hot wagon launches in Europe in the spring, but the automaker makes absolutely no mention of the model's prospects in the US. Hopefully, its appearance in LA at least indicates VW is considering bringing it stateside. The great thing about this wagon is that it has everything that the regular Golf R offers, but there's even more room to carry stuff. The same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Performance is very close, too, with the Variant R taking 5.1 seconds to get to 62 miles per hour versus the 4.9 seconds the standard R needs to read 60 mph. The two of them also have the same tech goodies like ESC Sport stability control and multiple damping modes. The real advantage to opting for the estate is its ability to carry up to 57.2 cubic feet of cargo in the back. This hot rod wagon would seem to be perfect for the family that needs to haul some extra junk in the trunk, but doesn't want to sacrifice performance. Whether the Variant R makes it to the US remains a mystery, though. Scroll down to read the specs and feel a twinge of jealousy.
Audi to keep hiring workers despite VW diesel scandal
Tue, Oct 27 2015Even while Volkswagen contemplates delaying or canceling projects to pay for costs related to the massive diesel emissions scandal, its stablemate Audi is hiring, according to Reuters. Audi certainly isn't immune to the diesel scandal, with around 2.1 million affected vehicles worldwide including 13,000-14,000 in the US, but the scandal so far isn't affecting staffing levels. "We are sticking with plans for strategic growth and are continuing to hire new employees as planned," Audi board member for human resources Thomas Sigi said in a German newspaper, according to Reuters. Sigi even suggested paying a "respectable" bonus to workers next year. Audi has some big projects on the horizon, too. Among them, the company intends to launch a production version of the E-Tron Quattro Concept in 2018, and for performance fans a new TT RS appears to be on the way. The new A4 should be a big contributor to global volume when its worldwide rollout is complete. Rather than allowing the diesel scandal to hurt all of its divisions, the VW Group instead wants to concentrate the fallout (and costs) on the VW brand, according to Reuters. Those expenses could be huge. Volkswagen is budgeting around $7.3 billion just to repair the 11 million emissions-cheating vehicles. Worldwide, maximum estimates put the whole mess at $87 billion.
