Volkswagen Superbeetle 1971 Restored on 2040-cars
Lawrenceville, Georgia, United States
Nice Superbeetle car was pretty much 98% rustfree before restoration southern car always in Georgia as far as i know. Car was stripped for paint all fenders off interior out all windows out hood and trunk lid off. There was a little rust in the pans which were original they were repaired by welding and some new heater channel section welded in by battery area. We did not replace pans only repaired them they are in very sound shape. Body was prepped for paint and painted at the local Spray-n-Glow with urethane enamel single stage. Car was painted 2x by them to get it nice. It is not a show winner it is no ta perfect job but it is pretty darn nice especially from a few feet away. It is painted the original color Clementine orange and all the door jams were redone the underside of the hood under the hood and inside the trunk lid. the pans were repainted and undercoated inside and out to prevent rust returning. New carpet headliner new seat coverings new padding new door panels . Windows put back in with new rubber all lights put back on. Then taken to Vw shop to get all lights and signals working properly. I don't think horn works but interior light works. The blower does not work. Heat connected and working. Engine is a rebuild by PO and all I know is it runs well doesn't smoke and has good power. It is nicely detailed. All fuel lines and fuel tank cleaned and or replaced as needed.Brake lines replaced and master cylinder with help from VW shop they work very well and stay firm to the foot. The clutch was replaced and the rear main seal to curb the VW spot but she still leaks a drop when parked. Car driveable and running well. No front end shimmy. Very presentable driver with hardly a nick or scratch on it. 404-435-6943 for questions. NOTE CAR SOLD WITH BILL OF SALE ONLY WE ARE LEGALLY REGISTERED OWNERS BUT TITLE LOST ALONG THE WAY BY PREVIOUS OWNER AND WE CANNOT GET A REPLACEMENT IN GEORGIA SO DON'T ASK CHECK WITH YOUR STATE TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET IT LICENSED. BY THE WAY CAR IS OLD WILL IT MAKE IT TO MICHIGAN?????? MAYBE MAYBE NOT IT IS OLD IF YOU ARE MECHANICALLY INCLINED YES.

North American production of foreign marques to jump in 2014
Sun, 23 Dec 2012Wards Auto has released its North American Light Vehicle Production Forecast for 2014, and the report predicts foreign manufacturers will increase production on the continent some 3.9 percent by 2014. If accurate, that should see 123,000 additional cars, trucks and vans produced in North America, swelling the total number of units produced both by domestic and foreign manufacturers to 16.9 million light vehicles from a projected 15.6 million in 2013. Much of the increase can be attributed to the fact that Toyota intends to produce another car at its Blue Springs, MS plant as well as a new Lexus model at its Georgetown, KY facility in a year's time.
Likewise, Volkswagen intends to move production of a currently imported model to its plant in Puebla, Mexico. Daimler, Honda, Nissan and Mazda also plan to build additional models on North American soil for the first time. Around two-thirds of the new North American manufacturing will take place in Mexico, helping the country soak up a full 20 percent of the content's automotive production for the first time. You can head over to the Wards Auto site for the full report.
Honda wins Commercial of the Decade, but not for the ad you think [w/VIDEO]
Fri, 18 Dec 2009Honda's Commercial of the Decade: "Grrr" - Click above to watch video
The mad men at Adweek recently voted for the Commercial of the Decade (Super Bowl commercials not included) and Honda took top honors over memorable ads from the last ten years by companies like Nike, Budweiser and Sony. That's not a big surprise considering Honda often puts a huge amount of effort into its on-air spots. However, the Japanese automaker didn't win for the commercial you might have expected: "Cog." Though Honda's famous commercial that breaks down a European Accord Tourer into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine was also a finalist, it was beaten by another Honda commercial called "Grrr" that's narrated by Garrison Keillor of all people. You've probably never seen it, but you can after the jump.
Volkswagen also made the list of finalists, but the particular ad chosen out of all the comical VW ads we've seen was unexpected as well. Most surprising carmaker with a commercial in the finals: Saturn. Who knew...
Get ready to Camino-ize your fourth-generation VW Jetta with this kit
Tue, 05 Aug 2014Inexpensive, small pickup trucks used to be everywhere in the US, whether they were from Japanese brands like Datsun or Toyota, the truly weird Subaru Brat or even from Europe with the Volkswagen Caddy based on the Golf. These days that market has completely disappeared, but if you're willing to pick up some tools to build your own, there's a company out there bringing the Caddy back as a kit for the Jetta.
Mark Smith knows a thing about building a vehicle at home. He has over two decades in the DIY-car business as a co-founder of Local Motors and the company that became Factory Five Racing. His latest venture is Smyth Performance and already offers a mid-engine, VW-based kit called the G3F. His new product, though, started as a fluke. "I just wanted a shop truck," said Smith to Autoblog. He already had a Ford F-450 but found that he was driving around with the bed empty most of the time. The result was a pickup truck based on the fourth-generation Jetta that he dubbed the Ute.
The kit retails for $3,500 and ships in three, big boxes, and it's designed to be built and painted in a weekend. Buyers get fiberglass exterior panels, a fiberglass rear window surround, sliding rear window, an aluminum reinforced bed with a tubular steel subframe, taillights, a fully functional steel tailgate, and other parts. In the end, you get a vehicle with a six-foot bed and a payload of around 700-750 pounds. The Ute maintains all of the factory suspension, fuel tank and emissions equipment and requires just a few cuts in the body to complete. "We did a modern Caddy," admits Smith.
