NO RESERVE!!

Being offered at NO RESERVE:

- 1973 VW Beetle in amazing BRIGHT ORANGE with only 94k miles.

- MADE IN GERMANY!! They simply don’t make vehicles like this anymore. With only 94k miles, this engineering masterpiece is barely broken in.

- From speaking with the owner, these are the original miles. However, we are disclosing that the title is marked as Not Actual Mile. The vehicle runs, drives and looks to have low miles. In addition, the title was previously renewed in 2008 and the odometer was recorded as 84k miles, so all signs lead us to believe the previous owner, that the vehicle’s true mileage is 94k; however, the title is marked (most likely mistakenly) as Not Actual Mile and we want to be as thorough and fair as possible to all potential bidders so we are disclosing this information.

- RUNS AND DRIVES 100%. We’ve had the vehicle on the highway at over 60 mph and the BEETLE IS IN EXCELLENT RUNNING CONDITION!!!

- As you can see in the pictures, the VW was restored. It appears to have been restored within the past 3-4 years based on how new everything appears. The chrome shines new, clearcoat and paint look a few years old tops and shine beautifully. While it is a very nice restoration job and the vehicle appears to have been taken down to its bare bones and restored properly, it is not without faults. There are some minor dings that were left in the body and the rear portion of the headliner has a few marks on it and is sagging in one spot. The dash has two cracks in the front center (driver side) that were filled and repaired but still visible.

- The interior otherwise looks great. Seats look great, carpets look new, the trim looks great. All rubber gaskets, glass, chrome trim, lights, door panels, sun visors, door handles look new.

- RUST-FREE!!!! I’ve included a bunch of undercarriage pictures. The body on this Beetle is rust-free. The undercarriage looks amazing. The orange you are seeing in the undercarriage pictures is because of the color of the vehicle. The underbody is in great condition. Frame, suspension and undercarriage components are all very solid.

- 1.6L 4 cylinder motor runs excellent. Great oil pressure and no heating issues. This motor is known for its reliability and not to mention its simple design allowing for easy, affordable maintenance.

- 4-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through all gears! No grinding or slipping. Clutch feels great.

- Brakes, exhaust and suspension are all excellent.

- This is the perfect vehicle for an amateur collector or to use as a daily driver. Reliable, great on gas and a real head-turner, the next owner is really going to enjoy this Beetle for years to come.

- We have verified that the original color of the vehicle was indeed BRIGHT ORANGE! The paint job looks great and fresh. No chips in the clearcoat and the vehicle really shines beautifully.

- Please take your time, I’ve included a lot of high-definition pictures including close-ups in order to give all potential bidders a fair and accurate view of the vehicle.

- Original VW Chrome center caps over the BRIGHT ORANGE wheels look amazing and are a truly classic look.

- Wheels are wrapped in FOUR MATCHING, BRAND-NEW NEXEN TIRES.

- All matching VIN numbers present!!! THIS IS THE ONE!

- Original radio was replaced at some point with an aftermarket headunit. Audio sounds great.

- The Beetle has been kept in amazing running condition. I wouldn’t hesitate to pick this vehicle up and drive it cross-country. 100% TURN-KEY!!

- This is really a rare find: 1973 Volkswagen Beetle with only 94k miles in BRIGHT ORANGE and being sold at NO RESERVE!!

My year in EVs: 8 electrics that are changing the car industry

Wed, Dec 1 2021

The year 2021 will go down as an inflection point in the auto industry’s transition to electric vehicles. It's when many much-anticipated models became reality. No longer sketches or sketchy prototypes, electric vehicles appeared from all corners with everything from the Lucid Air to Ford Mustang Mach-E changing how we think about transportation. I managed to drive a lot of them, and as I went through my notes, I realized IÂ’ve got a mini memoir of the seminal EVs of 2021. HereÂ’s my take on eight of them. Hummer EV Easily the most over-the-top EV I tested this year. The 1,000-hp super truck lived up to the hype with its domineering presence, stupendous power and simply being a reincarnated Hummer. I took it for a short spin on- and off-road at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, Mich., and was impressed with the airy cabin, removable sky panels and expansive touchscreens. Yes, I crab walked, which felt like steering a pontoon boat, though I can see why it would be useful. Lucid Air Dream Performance The most beautiful sedan I tested all year, EV or otherwise. Unlike the futuristic Mercedes EQS — which is quite attractive — LucidÂ’s car is a blend of mid-century modern interior aesthetics and classic European exterior styling. When I walked up for my test drive, someone who IÂ’m pretty sure was comedian Jon Lovitz was sitting inside and taking it all in. As it sat in the valet of a hotel in a wealthy suburban enclave north of Detroit, the Lucid drew more attention than any of the Mercedes, Cadillacs or Lexus models passing by. The driving experience was enveloping. Starting at $169,000 for the Performance model (reservations are closed), the Lucid I sampled packed 1,111 hp and 471 miles of range. From the precise steering to the comfortable suspension, the dynamics were spot-on. It's a formidable product, and all the more impressive given itÂ’s LucidÂ’s first. Chevy Bolt EV The Bolt was the most pleasant surprise for me. It handled well, offered low-to-the-ground hot hatch dynamics and the steering was dialed-in. Adding a crossover variant for the new generation was a smart play. On a summer morning where I went to a first drive of the Ford Bronco at an off-road course, my hour-long commute in the Bolt was an enjoyable appetizer.  The Bolt was also my biggest disappointment due to its extensive recalls for fire risk. Ironically, I had the Bolt in my driveway when the initial recall went out for the previous generation (2017-19).

Auto execs surveyed say VW, BMW most likely to grow

Thu, 17 Jan 2013

A new survey of top global automotive executives indicates both Volkswagen and BMW are the most likely to grow their market share over the next five years.
Tax advisory firm KPMG LLP has released its 14th annual Global Automotive Executive Survey, which includes responses from over 200 executives. A total of 81 percent of respondents said they expect to see Volkswagen make gains, compared to 70 percent last year. BMW, meanwhile, saw 70 percent of those surveyed say they believe the company will increase its market share. That's a jump of 7 percentage points over last year. This is the first time in the history of the survey that BMW has claimed the second-place spot.
Meanwhile, Hyundai has seen its perceived market share potential slacken for the third year in a row. Around 61 percent of those surveyed predicted gains for Hyundai, down from 63 in 2012. Toyota also has a surprising year, but for just the opposite reason. While the manufacturer had slipped in ranking since 2011, it enjoyed the largest increase of any company in the 2013 survey, jumping to 68 percent from 44 percent last year.

Tesla tires turning on Stretchla Vanagon EV conversion project

Tue, Jan 7 2014

It is one thing to say you are going to Frankenstein a Tesla Model S with a pair of Siamese-twinned Volkswagen Vanagons and quite another to actually start taking your newly-acquired, smashed-up electric sedan apart in an effort to bring it back to life. Otmar Ebenhoech is doing just that, and having no small successes along the way. The Stretchla project, as it is being called, has officially started and our protagonist has put together another bit of video to document his progress and let us know about some of the different challenges he's encountered and conquered. While our original post about this endeavor featured video of the stretched Vanagon's drivetrain removal, this latest installment focuses on the Model S. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition and has been tackling some of the basic problems one might expect to encounter: lots of error messages and an electrically disconnected battery pack. Without the aid of a manual or technical diagrams, he's removed the battery pack and discovered why it wasn't sending power to the car. Scroll below to watch the ten-minute presentation and celebrate some initial victories. You can also check out the official Stretchla blog for more photos and updates, including the most recent one that discusses how he talked himself into paying (*spoiler alert) $42,000 for a wrecked, non-functional electric car, along with more recent struggles with the steering rack. Hit us up in the comments to let us know what kind of trouble you would get into with a Model S drivetrain of your own. This content is hosted by a third party.
