This was my car as a teen. 6 years ago I decided it was time to restore. A very accomplished guy in my area put brand new floorpans, (high quality) Did some suspension work and then I sent it to another state for restore. The guy started out doing a great job. bodywork, replacement parts and wheels and tires, disk brakes all around and primed and painted.

My local guy built a 1776 motor with dual carbs and I shippped motor to restore guy to put in car. I finally picked car up and restore guy said motor was having some issues  (normal) so i took it back to local guy to go over it. I picked it a couple months later and the molding was falling off and a small amount of rust was developing on rear pillar. I then got to looking and noticed restore guy decioded to get a little cheap on me and skimp on parts. I decided to redo the interior that was shoddy and forget about it. I cranked car on regular basis to keep it up while I worked on interior. One day the belt slung off while i was cranking it and I got busy at work and just lost interest. The motor was running when this happened and that was 1 year ago, the car has been sitting there and now it has to go

THE GOOD: All in all the body is tight when you close doors. great glass in it, headliner appears to be fine, good paint on inside, speedo is set back to 0 but has 3 miles on it when I did take it round the block. tires and rims are good all lights worked and speedo worked and lit up. Car fired right up. Motor would scoot, all new wiring harnesses

THE UGLY: Interior needs to be done, inside doors needs to be redone as the were not in the first place (restore dude sucks) small rust on back pillar see pics, Engine needs belt if it needs anything else I do not know I'm not a mechanic. Window cranks need reworking. It needs a hood and hardware for it. i have the seats but they need to be redone and they are not releasing like they should, All runer around rear truck is gone

I'm tired of seeing this car sit there and not be with someone that can bring it back to life. It's just not going to happen with me. If your near me I can deliver for a fee. other than that you are responsible for pickup or delivery

Volkswagen lays off 500 Chattanooga workers

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

The redesigned Volkswagen Passat has been a decent seller since its debut in 2011, but sales have apparently dropped off enough that the automaker is trimming some of the employees from its Chattanooga, TN assembly plant. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen will be cutting shifts and laying off 500 contracted workers in response to slowing sales.
Currently, the plant has three teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Saturday, but starting May 13, this will be reduced down to two teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Thursday. This will be done to reduce dealer inventory (the article says that VW dealers, on average, have a 97-day supply of Passats) and production capacity (currently running at an annual pace of 170,000 units, which is more than the 150,000 annual units the plant was planned to produce).
This, of course, isn't saying that the Passat has been a failure since VW added 200 full-time employees to the plant in February 2012 to keep up with increased demand. The AN article says that automakers frequently overstaff plants during the launch of a new product - or in this case, a new product and a new plant - but eventually reduce the workers as things run smoother and more efficiently.

New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.
That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?

VW expanding in Chattanooga, hiring workers ahead of SUV production

Sat, Feb 28 2015

Hey, look! We're writing about Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory and the focus isn't on yet another unionization effort. That's because the big news at the still-new factory is VW's plan to expand and increase its workforce in preparation for the arrival of the German brand's long-awaited midsize crossover. The expansion, which will add over half a million square feet of factory space, overhaul the assembly, body and paint shop and add 2,000 employees to the factory's ranks, officially kicked off last month. "This is a very exciting time in the history of Volkswagen Chattanooga," president and CEO of operations at the plant, Christian Koch, said in a statement. "A lot of hard work is going into adding this second vehicle line to the plant, but it is crucial to our efforts to move forward in America." "Not only will Volkswagen's expansion create thousands of new jobs, it will strengthen their roots in our city," Chattanooga's Mayor, Andy Berke, said in a statement. "From the construction at the plant to the development of a visitors center, there is no doubt that Volkswagen is invested in Chattanooga." VW Chattanooga has been a constant in the headlines over the past few years as pro-union and pro-business interests have battled over the souls representation rights of its roughly 1,500 workers. Just over a year ago, the UAW was defeated in its initial unionization bid, although pro-labor interests have not gone quietly into the night. Construction is expected to continue for two years, with production of Chattanooga's second vehicle expected to commence in 2016. Scroll down for the official press release from Volkswagen. VOLKSWAGEN CHATTANOOGA'S PLANT EXPANSION UNDERWAY Feb 24, 2015 Construction Will Add 2nd Vehicle Line: New Midsize SUV CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2015) - Construction is underway at the Volkswagen Chattanooga manufacturing facility in preparation for production of an all new Midsize SUV. The first phase of construction started in early January 2015 and will continue for the next two years. Volkswagen Chattanooga CEO and President Christian Koch gave a site tour to Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke and Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger on Tuesday, highlighting the necessary expansion of the production areas in the body shop, paint shop and assembly areas.
