2003 VW Beetle Convertible Turbocharged Automatic. 30,618 miles
Few cars have the pedigree the Volkswagen Beetle has. In production for over 60 years, the Beetle has cemented its self in automotive history as a reliable, affordable, and iconic automobile. For a limited time, we are offering you the rare opportunity to own a pristine example of this storied auto. Listed is a top of the line, turbocharged 2003 VW Beetle convertible with only 30,618 miles. This car is loaded up with every option to make this the best bug you have ever driven. The exterior is adorned in soft yellow paint, a classic color rare on newer bugs. The car is donned with a fully automatic, black power top with chrome trim, a great contrast to the body color. The car even comes with full leather protective "boot" to cover the convertible top, an expensive option rarely found with the car. Inside, the interior is that of a true 30,000 mile car. The adjustable heated leather seats are still firm, crisp and with out wear. All the carpets, headliners, trim are clean as a whistle. Carpets covered in protective plastic!
I have personally driven this vehicle and can attest that is truly a fun car to drive, with a distinctly sporty feel. Turbocharged power puts this bug in a class high above its base brethren. The powertrain has lots of life and pep; delivering surprising performance while maintaining 31 highway mph. Steering is responsive and taught. Great line of sight out of a roomy cabin.
In short, this an extremely rare example of a great car. This vehicle offers top of the line performance and quality for the model. Turbocharged performance and convertible fun. At an ultra low 30,618 miles, you will be able to enjoy this car for the next decade and beyond.
Good luck and happy bidding. All questions welcome.

BMW, Ferrari, VW cars use tungsten mined by terrorists
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bloomberg Markets is reporting that BMW, Volkswagen and Ferrari have been using tungsten ore sourced from Columbia's FARC rebel terrorists. The extensive story focuses on Columbia's illegal mining trade and calls into question the provenance of the rare ore that is used not only in crankshaft parts production, but is also found in the world's computing and telecommunications industry for use in screens.
The ore is mined by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army), and exported to Pennsylvania, where it is refined. The refined ore is then sent over to Austria, where a company called Plansee turns it into a finished product. Now, it's important to note that we aren't talking about the world's supply of tungsten here. In 2012, Plansee's American refinery purchased 93.2 metric tons of tungsten, valued at $1.8 million. That's peanuts, with the entire Colombian tungsten mining industry producing just one percent of the world's supplies.
That doesn't make indirectly supporting FARC any more acceptable, though. BMW, VW and Ferrari are all committed to not accepting mineral supplies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also in the grips of a guerrilla insurrection funded, in part, by illegal mining. The same commitment would figure to extend to Colombian mining, but as BMW points out, it's difficult for a multi-national manufacturer to know where every item in its supply chain comes from. A company spokesperson says as much, telling Bloomberg, "These few grams out of the billions of tons of raw materials passing through the BMW supply chain are of no practical relevance."
TN politicians may push to end VW incentives if plant goes union
Tue, 11 Feb 2014Volkswagen's Chattanooga Assembly Plant is scheduled to vote on whether to unionize in the coming days, but Tennessee state lawmakers are threatening to deny future tax subsidies to the factory, if the vote is successful. The factory is currently the only Volkswagen plant worldwide that is not unionized.
The states's Republican lawmakers have been particularly vocal against the union vote. Tennessee state senator Bo Watson said during a press conference that VW would have a "very tough time" with future incentives if the vote were successful, according to Automotive News. Tennessee House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick said the "heavy hand" of the UAW is not welcome there. VW has drawn criticism from both sides because it has allowed both pro- and anti-union groups to speak to workers and hand out leaflets.
Roughly 1,500 factory employees will vote on whether to unionize from February 12-14. If successful, the Chattanooga factory would be the first in the US organized under a German-style works council system where white- and blue-collar workers directly negotiate factory issues with the company's management.
Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift
Fri, Feb 20 2015The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
