Bought the Bug about 7 years ago from the original owner (as he told me.) Began restoring it in 2012 and with the unexpected death of my wife have decided to sell it. The following is the list of new or restored parts to the '74 VW: door panels front and back; carpet- front, back and trunk; headliner; rear speaker tray; sunvisors; window door cranks; rear view mirror; complete rubber kit; "T"-bar bumpers- front and rear; headlights and rings; taillights; turn signal assemblies; driver side exterior mirror; aluminum running boards; complete wiring kit- front to back; starter; wipers and arms; generator; front windshield;door components; muffler; carburetor; chrome air filter; electric fuel pump; spark plugs and wires; tires; complete paint inside and exterior.
The restoration did not include engine nor suspension work nor has the transmission been restored or service in 7 years of ownership. The Beetle is not a daily driver and does have issues some of which are evident in the pictures. This is the known list: 1) the dash has one crack; (2) both front seats rock due to missing shims that were lost in the carpet removal and have not been found.
(3) During the restoration of the interior the back seat suffered a split in the seat back as the picture shows; (4) at speed (55mph) the car drifts; (5) during braking the brakes feel spongy; (6) rubber gasket at passenger door has a small crimp in it not a cut and will need gluing.
The VW is complete except for the missing seat shims (which were never located online, either) and runs as noted and shifts into each gear without clunking. The car does not need to be trailered but has not been driven extensively in 7 years or during the restoration. The car comes with an owner's manual and an 8-track tape player which I have never played and do not know if it functions.
The listed restoration is less than 6 months old.

Editors' Choice: Top Five 2013 Geneva Motor Show Debuts
Fri, 08 Mar 2013We've returned from a very busy week in Switzerland, and in going back over all of our 75 stories from the Geneva Motor Show, our editors have gathered up their personal favorite debuts from the European expo.
The wonderful thing about the Geneva show is just how wide of an array of vehicles are on display - everything from funny little one-off EVs to the most exotic of supercars to, well, truly ridiculous displays of coachbuilding. And because of that, this list of our editors' favorites might not be as predictable as you think.
But we don't want to give anything away just yet. Scroll down to have a look at our team's favorites from Geneva.
Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program
Tue, 04 Oct 2011You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Read the official announcement after the break.
VW budget sub-brand stuck in limbo over VW standards, costs
Sun, Mar 2 2014Reports in October 2012 claimed Volkswagen had begun investigating the creation of its own budget brand. This came after having failed to purchase Malaysian car company Proton or produce a meaningful partnership with Suzuki, and after watching Renault-Nissan make piles of euro on Dacia and plot the return of Datsun. For VW, more important than the question of what to call it was how to build it profitably and in a way that didn't damage the VW brand. According to a report in Autocar, a satisfactory answer still hasn't been found. The hurdle is how to hit "'necessary' quality and safety levels" at the price points needed to make the venture worthwhile. At the time of the 2012 report, German outlet Der Spiegel said VW was trying to get prices down to 6,000 to 8,000 euro ($7,784 to $10,379 US), about two thousand to four thousand euro under the price of the VW Up and in line with the cost of a 6,790-euro Dacia Sandero in Germany. In March 2013, VW announced, "We want to bring a true budget car to the market in China in the foreseeable future," the most concrete move in that direction after years of planning to make a decision. Working with local Chinese maker FAW, it was predicted that the vehicle in question would appear around 2016, but as of November last year a final vote on it needed to wait until this year because "We are still working on the cost side" and profit possibilities for a car that "has to be durable, it has to be precise, it has to be safe." Even Fiat, another automaker long considering a budget brand beneath its Fiat line-up, wasn't sure how to squeeze any extra money from lower-cost products but was sure that it couldn't be done by manufacturing in Europe. If VW hasn't yet made the math work with a joint venture in China, it will be interesting to see how it might build a European go-it-alone business case.
