Original odometer was replaced in 1998, new odometer states mileage since car was rebuilt and reads only 2491 miles. Car had a rebuilt 1600cc stock engine and rebuilt manual transmission installed, wheel bearings, brakes, and front end rebuilt, new tires, new paint, new interior, new carpet, Sony CD player and new speakers added, etc. all in 1998. Car was recently started and driven with no mechanical issues. Engine could probably use a minor tune-up but the entire drivetrain has been rebuilt/replaced <2500 miles ago and the valves were adjusted professionally last year. There is a small amount of bubbling of the paint near the rear windows and a few areas where scratches in the paint have been touched up on the vehicle. The interior has a few marks and small tears and there are a few small chips on the dashboard. The car was only driven in warmer months so the heater boxes and vents are not currently hooked up or running. Wiring harness and fuse block were replaced and the car does need some electrical work as most but not all electrical switches, etc. are working at present. Car does have a brand new battery. The hood latch and cable as well as the release lever and glove box were all recently replaced with new parts but need to be installed/adjusted. Car is very nice but is an older car and does have a few issues as indicated and as such is being sold as-is / where-is. Bentley Bentayga bodies to be built in Bratislava
Sun, Apr 12 2015Volkswagen's plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, has come a long way. After getting its start in 1971 by subcontracting the production of Skoda-branded vehicles, the plant was purchased by VW in 1991, where it was quickly put to further good use as it began producing Volkswagen Passat models for export. More recently, Bratislava has become a bastion for SUVs, assembling the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, in addition to the VW Touareg. Color us unsurprised, then, to learn that the Bentley Bentayga, which will be built atop the same large SUV platform as its cousins from Audi, Porsche and VW, will also be used for at least part of the production of Bentley's first SUV. Surely, though, one of the hallmarks of the Bentley brand is that its cars are handmade in England. Won't the Bentley-buying populace feel slighted by production in Slovakia? Not to worry. As is the case with the Porsche Cayenne, all that will be produced in Slovakia is the Bentayga's body. According to a report from Automotive News, bodies for the Bentayga will be shipped from Bratislava to Crewe, England, where they will be finished into fully operational vehicles. In order to accommodate the additional work, VW will reportedly invest 500 million euros into the plant in Slovakia and hire hundreds of workers.
Tesla tires turning on Stretchla Vanagon EV conversion project
Tue, Jan 7 2014It is one thing to say you are going to Frankenstein a Tesla Model S with a pair of Siamese-twinned Volkswagen Vanagons and quite another to actually start taking your newly-acquired, smashed-up electric sedan apart in an effort to bring it back to life. Otmar Ebenhoech is doing just that, and having no small successes along the way. The Stretchla project, as it is being called, has officially started and our protagonist has put together another bit of video to document his progress and let us know about some of the different challenges he's encountered and conquered. While our original post about this endeavor featured video of the stretched Vanagon's drivetrain removal, this latest installment focuses on the Model S. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition. Otmar received the Tesla in less-than-operable condition and has been tackling some of the basic problems one might expect to encounter: lots of error messages and an electrically disconnected battery pack. Without the aid of a manual or technical diagrams, he's removed the battery pack and discovered why it wasn't sending power to the car.
