1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle Base 1.6l on 2040-cars
Kankakee, Illinois, United States
I have for sale my 1973 Super Beetle. I picked up this car 1 1/2 years ago as payment for work on 2 other cars and planned on making it road worthy. However plans have changed, new house & another child, and I offer this up for sale.
This car was amateur restored quite some time ago and driven semi-regularly until 2011 when the brake lights quit working, and then was parked outside uncovered until I got it. By then the drivers floor pan, heater channel, and pedals had rusted. Drivers floor pan, drivers heater channel, spot behind floor pan, & very small spot on passenger floor pan by the toe area. Area under the battery is NOT rusted through. Drivers door is rusting at what I assume is a patch line, so is the drivers side behind the door. The engine is a "owner called it new" but appears to be a remanufactured engine -supposedly with less than 5K on it. I had the engine running before I stripped out the interior by using a jumper pack and pouring gas down the carb, ran excellent while the fuel lasted. Fuel tank appears to have been replaced, or absolutely outstanding original condition. But smells of old gas. Interior has had the carpeting removed (and gone) rubber floor mats are in trunk. Seats are in very good condition, door panels are a thin plywood, headliners sags as usual. Wheels are what appear to be Empi's and with some TLC (paint &polish) would be nice again. Right front brake was stuck when I got it & in the process of breaking it loose, chipped the drum. So RF brake: shoes missing drum bad. Tires probably only have the 5k miles since restoration, but are badly weather checked. All glass is good, as are all the fenders. Easy, LOL, restoration or an awesome parts car. Mileage on odometer reads 20680, actual is unknown. IL title because of age is exempt, spot for mileage is blank. Car is located 5 miles West of Kankakee, IL which is right by I-57, 30 miles from I-55, & 40 from I-80 so easy access. The car will need to be trailered from my location, IT IS NOT DRIVEABLE. I am able to store it for two weeks to give you time to arrange picking it up, if fully paid for. Preferably I would like it gone ASAP. Any questions are more than welcome, you are also encouraged to come and inspect it (email me). Please ask all questions before bidding, your bid is a binding contract to buy.
All nonpaying winners will be reported to eBay and blocked from any of my future auctions.
I do combine shipping with other items (if I have multiple auctions).
Please check my feedback, I have 100% positive and strive to keep it that way.
PLEASE look at all pictures and ask any questions you may have before bidding. |

Next-gen Volkswagen Golf R spied while running the 'Ring
Tue, 16 Apr 2013The launch of a new Volkswagen Golf is never a small thing, and things are already looking up for the subcompact hatchback after it was named 2013 World Car of the Year. While we've already seen the base and GTI versions of the next-generation Golf, now we're getting our first look at the sportier Golf R.
Although this prototype wears GTI lettering on the front fenders, it's more than just the roll cage and Sparco racing seat hinting that this is something a little more serious. Unlike the Golf and GTI, this car shows that the Golf R will continue to flaunt massive air intakes on each side of the fascia, and the rear of the car (though it's hard to see) has quadruple exhaust outlets. We still don't have an official word on power, but rumors indicate that the next Golf R could be pushing close to 300 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Golf ever. As much fun as we had during our first drive of the Golf R Cabriolet in the cold, snowy French Riviera last month, more power is a warming idea.

2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen First Drive [w/video]
Wed, Mar 25 2015Volkswagen currently offers five Golf models in the US, and in just a few weeks it will add the 2015 SportWagen to the lineup. The previous version sold as the Jetta SportWagen, although it was technically a Golf. For the new model, VW product planners decided to align all the hatchbacks under the same name. The SportWagen employs the same engines as the Golf, but significantly stretches its new MQB architecture. The result is greater practicality in the form of cargo room. With the seats up the SportWagen holds 30.4 cubic feet, almost 8 more than the Golf. The gap widens to nearly 14 cu ft with the seats folded; a max capacity of 66.5 cu ft puts the SportWagen into compact crossover territory. That added functionality leads VW to think it can sway buyers shopping the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. And with the high-mpg diesel variant – 31 mpg city, up to 43 highway – VW hopes to lure those considering fuel-sipping MPVs like the Toyota Prius V and Ford C-MAX. What separates this Golf from those other two segments is the driving prowess we've come to expect from Wolfsburg's best-selling nameplate. While the silhouette is similar to the outgoing Jetta wagon, designers honed the character lines to give the Golf SportWagen a more modern, angular aesthetic. The LED headlights look sharp, the hood now scoops down at a steeper angle into the front fenders, and the general proportions – in line with other Golf models – have changed. The new SportWagen is lower, longer, and wider and than the Jetta SportWagen it replaces. Specifically, it is 1.1 inches longer, 0.7 inches wider, and despite being about an inch lower, actually boasts more headroom. Inside, things look pretty familiar to the current Golf family. There are small, premium touches such as a sporty, flat-ish-bottom wheel, piano-black trim, and an optional one-touch panoramic sunroof that makes the cabin a bright, airy, and pleasant place to be. Otherwise, it's your standard Golf fare, but with a whole lot more room out back. The same two engines that power the standard Golf – the 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four TSI, and 2.0-liter turbocharged TDI diesel – are also found under the hood of the SportWagen. Gasoline-powered models come with a five-speed manual or a traditional six-speed auto, while the TDI gets six-speed transmissions across the board – either as a row-your-own manual, or a dual-clutch DSG auto with steering wheel-mounted paddles.
