Condition: This is a 1973 Volkswagen Standard Beetle, with a 1776 engine and a larger fly wheel than came standard with this car. People tell me its one of the fastest bugs they have driven. It has a new Fuel Pump, Leaks some oil from the Fly wheel seal, this can be replaced the next time you service your engine and the engine needs to be pulled. I dont think its a big deal. There is an area of small (3inch X 3 inch) rust on the passenger side rear panel behind the passanger side rear window and some surface rust on a render dent you can see that in one of the pictures. the front needs to be pulled out a little so the spare tire can fit in its slot, right now the spare tire is in the trunk laying horizontally over the gas tank. This car needs exterior work to be a show car but for most people its in good shape. The roof rack needs to be sanded on the wood slats and a new coat of varnish would be nice. I have had this car since 2003, I used it as a commuter car to get me back and forth from Stockton Ca to Sacramento Ca for college for 3 years. I have worked out the cars kinks and it has been a good car to me. Like any volkswagen you need to or will learn basic Mechanics to get you to and from your destination, it is truely a lifestyle not a car, so I hope you enjoy the ride. It is not the car for everyone but is the perfect car for some.
Work done on the car that i can remember: There are metal fuel lines for a majority of the line under the car, This car used to have an electronic fuel punp but it was more of a pain to fix when needing replacement than just replacing a 16$ fuel pump so i took it out.
The speedometer and gas guage work. This is nice. The mileage i listed in the post is arbitrary. Its what reads on the speedometer but if anyone put in a new speedometer, which is what probably happened if you have one that works, then its not an accurate reading.
I did more work than this obviously but its more maintenance than repair so im not listing every single thing. When you buy the car if you have any issues feel free to call me and i can possibly diagnose since i know this car so well.
The shifter is sticky and slips into a spot that isnt a gear, this can be fixed by a mechanic or yourself if you understand this part of the car. I dont so i havent fixed it. I didnt know how to fix anything on this car before i bought it everything that i know about it was from having to fix something.
The interior is good, Cream colored seats, no rips, some stains. the rug is black and was put in sometime around 2002. It could use some new glue in some spots, all and all its nice.
Headliner is white, and nice.
Has a radio and cd player with speakers aftermarket, i like it. Works fine. The radio doesnt hold a set channel though because when it did the wire connecting to the battery which gave it power to save channels, would drain the battery so i just disconnected it and when i want to hear a channel i manually go to it. Kind of a pain, but maybe you can figure something out better than my solution to disconnect.
I bought all new tires not that long ago, the tread it good.
If you want more pictures e-mail me csusamy@yahoo.com. I can only add 4 here without paying more to list the car
History: I bought this car from my brothers wife who purchased it at the Stockton CA Delta Car flea market around 2002, It was restored by the previous owner and had new interior and a paint job, that wasnt that good because it wore off fast. The work was done by Bugformance of Stockton when Gary owned it. My brothers wife never learned how to drive a stick and the car kept dying from a fuel starve, so i bought it from her. It took me a while to get the fuel thing right. I took it to alot of mechanics, The car would get just far enough where you couldnt walk back and then die. After about 3 different mechanics that i paid and they never fixed the problem, i started working on it myself. I had eliminated every option of fuel starve from the carb to the tank, and decided to look in the tank, there ended up being an aditive foil cap in the tank that floated when pressure wasnt built up, but as you drove the car the pressure built and the cap was sucked down to the tube and starved the engine. This made sence, because as you were broken down on the freeway, if you waited the car would start up and drive to a mechanics shop. Funny story but i realized why the guy had sold it after that. Noone could figure out how to make the car drive.
Shipping: It is the buyers responsibility to arrange shipping. The car is in Stockton Ca. If you buy it in Utah you need to figure out how to get it there.

Porsche 911 with VW turbodiesel prepares for LeMons assault
Fri, 21 Mar 2014LeMons racing is a wonderful example that setting limits can actually breed creativity. The series mandates that all entries must cost $500, not counting safety equipment, and that cap forces teams to be ingenious in how they build a racecar. Take for example this diesel-powered Porsche 911, which its creators have dubbed Ferkel the Nein-11, that will be racing in the Sears Pointless race this weekend in Sonoma, California.
This Frankenstein combines a 911 chassis that was originally bought just for its European powertrain and a Volkswagen TDI diesel engine mounted in the rear. After deciding the shell could still be of some use, the team decided to go racing. "We began brainstorming what replacement drivetrain to use for maximum offense and there was really only one answer: a diesel," said Philipp von Weitershausen, one of the team captains, to Jalopnik. They bought a 1998 Jetta TDI on the cheap and started figuring out a way to hack the engine into the bay. To pay respect to the donor, the VW's trunk was highly modified (and drilled) and grafted onto the back of Ferkel.
This team isn't a newcomer to LeMons. Its last car was a classic VW Beetle with a Subaru engine and dual controls, named Ferdinand the Bug, which could be driven from the left or right side. It's quite a sight.
Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki
Tue, 02 Oct 2012Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.
VW Jetta TDI Value Edition drops price of diesel ownership to $21,295*
Wed, 08 Jan 2014Getting a new diesel-powered car just got a bit easier. Volkswagen has announced a new Jetta TDI Value Edition for 2014 that trims over $2,000 off the starting price of a Jetta TDI, making the most affordable diesel-powered car in America even more so. Prices start at $21,295 (*plus $820 for destination) for a Value Edition with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic adds $1,100 to the price. For that money, owners will get 140 horsepower, 236 pound-feet of torque and 42 miles per gallon on the freeway.
Despite the lower price and being down on content versus the previous base Jetta TDI, the Value Edition does come quite well equipped, with standard heated cloth seats, a six-speaker stereo with a Media Device Interface, satellite radio, and one-touch, up-down power windows on all four doors. Customers will be giving up some notable stuff though, including tilt/telescopic steering, Bluetooth streaming audio, power seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
Still, if you're aching to get your hands on a new TDI, this is now the most affordable way to do it. We suspect having the lower MSRP will help the German manufacturer make even further diesel-powered inroads here in the States, a land where they cleared their decks of over 100,000 TDI models in 2013.
