Fresh rebuild to a 1641cc duel port. The build: I rebuilt this engine my self, but I'm a experienced mechanic for over 12 years and know VW well, but sorry no build sheet, so Ill do the best I can with describing it.
I started with a good case from a 1600 single port, drilled it out for the larger oil cooler and tower fan, striped the painted case back to the stock finish for proper heat dispersion. The previous build from the last owner of this engine was over heated after a drive I took at 70mph so all the internals came out. I installed a new 69mm crank as the crank was twisted in the dowel pins and treading to the flywheel was weak with a crack it had to go, like I said over heated so I took no chances with it. Went on to install new main bearings, new rod bearings, and new cam bearings, new rear main seal, and gaskets were made with black RTV. I find that they hold up better to oil leaks this way. The rods were re-used so was the stock cam, the gears, oil pump, and a good set of mildly used performance 041 vw duel port heads I believe that's the number on them, they have low miles, are like 2 years old and work very well with good burning chambers. I don't put together junk , what's the point, it won't run. The pistons and barrels were replaced with a brand New set of 87mm 1641cc piston kit and have good compression, this kit requires no machining to the case or heads. This engine is well built and a lot more powerful then a stock duel port 1600cc. This car has not made full break in as I have it stored and can only drive it in the parking lot right now. I brought it up to 50mph though on a strait strip, and drove it around my neighborhood a few miles risking it without tags, stupid I know. The engine has had the proper break-in revving process to set the rings in though. It has a new clutch in it so no problems there. The TOP has a new 34pic carburetor, New fuel pump, 009 distributor with new points, cap and rotor. The coil is in good used condition, 55 amp alt upgrade 12 volt system. Running a header exhaust with j-tubes and heater deletes, comes with with a stinger exhaust pipe, but I will include the quiet pack single performance muffler with the sale as well. Has a new battery in it. The CAR, this is the best bug Iv ever owned, being restored twice in the last 6 years, RUST FREE, dent Free, except for some small scrapes in the front end skirt do to it being lowered, but it's not even a concern. The car has had no major accident that I can tell it looks all original. The pan and car's body and it has not been taken apart that I can tell, so it's original and I believe the numbers match, witch is a rare thing today with vw bugs, but the Engine is not a numbers matching block as I got it in LA, TRANS the I'm not sure, prob was replaced, it's really good and have had no problems with this freeway flyer, but the trans came in the car and have not played with it, all is well. The guy I bought this car from is my neighbor who had this car for several years and it kinda got traded around my neighborhood for the last 7 years of so. before he had the car a marine did a st about everything was replaced0% restoration to the car cut out the batt tray aria of the pan and restored everything from the bottom up . He striped the whole car to the last nuts and bolts, everything in this car is new , New Gas tank and Brake system, cables, new dash, you name it tons of up grades and there is tons on money invested in this car, one piece windows were installed, it was painted in and out without any window glass, engine and trans came out all was taken part and put back with new stuff about 6 years ago. He installed the So Cal rubber window kit, shaved the metal trim so it does have a tiny bit of filler just to smooth it out from the trims and signal lights. The tail and turn signal lights where converted to the older style, the suspension is raked the front lowering it. He did a good job for a non professional, but no one seemed to like the yellow paint color. When I got the car it was flat black primer outside and without a motor or stereo and some small spots of rust that I repaired and re welded in the front gas tank aria and the front kick panels, so no more rust. it also needed several cosmetic things, and has been up graded, to the old school round mirror a Rockford sound system 10inch duel voice coil competition sub Rockford amp with a kenwood head unit. lots of up grades to the car must see it.The headliner and the rest of the interior was replace with top of the line tweed and was over $2000 alone. The gauges are an up grade but not all are hooked up right now but work. The steering wheel was replaced with a cool wolfsburg steering wheel kit and so were the seat belts and shifter knob. I installed the projector headlights with tear drop covers the t-bars and the new tail lights. The car comes with a spare tire that rolls. The NOT SO GOOD Part, I'm a sucky painter, so the paint job as it's an awesome color it's not professionally done and is no show winner, but not bad for a beginner and has a nice shine to it. The other thing is One tire needs replacing in the front but I can order it with the sale , you may need to have it put on though, and the last thing it will need in the future is the steering box is getting a bit worn and the car has a small bit of play but is still not to bad to drive but will need replacing within the next 2 years, I'm tapped out, so that's why I didn't replace that stuff yet. The pictures give the color no Justus and the car is a camellia type of paint so it's mainly a dark purple blue and much prettier in person, it changes completely in the sunlight to blue. It can appear dark in some spots and light in others as the car has curves as well. It's a bad ass driver hot rod custom and something to be proud of any place, nobody notices the problems with it hanging around it but I'm picky and disappointed with my work on the paint that's all. Has not been out side so has been covered in a tent at my storage lot where I keep it. Won't be a best of show, so it's no show car paint job, but all else is good, the inside door paint is fudged and that is prob the worst thing and I have a bad spray pattern on the drivers door, but is purely cosmetic. All else functions well in this car and would make a killer first time hot rod for a high schooler or adult. This car get's mad looks everywhere I go with it and everyone loves the color and just has to stop and bother me about it. lol? is it for sale or just bug talk and such, I don't have time for that BS bu love VW's so dealing with it lol. Truth is I just got done with the project and have owned the car for a bit over a year and would love to keep it, but I'm moving back suddenly to the east coast and have 4 cars so some need to go and ill be needing the cash as well to get back home so my loss. I am in and out of town all the time right now and getting ready for the move in may, so if you have the winning bid I can hold the car for you to pick it up as long as the car get's paid the deposit first, but I'm out of town right now as well so it may be a week before you can pick the car up as well, please just communicate with me so we can work it out I'm good about that and have a 100% feed back. The title is clear and in hand, the car is ready to run and drive, if in so cal I can deliver for a small fee depending on where you live, we can talk about it.You must have the $1000. deposit towards the car's price within 48hrs of purchase to buy the car. If you have any questions just ask me, thank you and happy bidding. |

VW announces reworked 6.0 W12 TSI engine
Mon, May 11 2015Nobody makes more engines with a dozen cylinders than the Volkswagen Group. They're W12s, of course, owing to the novel shape of their cylinder banks. Now the German industrial giant has announced a comprehensively reworked version of that engine at the same Vienna Motor Symposium where it presented its new 2.0-liter turbo four. The new W12 retains the same arrangement and the same 6.0-liter displacement, but updates it all with the latest powertrain tech. In place of Audi's FSI direct injection and Bentley's TMPI multi-point injection, the engine has adopted a new TSI system. It's also got a pair of new twin-scroll turbochargers, APS-coated cylinders, a new cooling system, active engine mounts, cylinder deactivation, and a stop/start system. And – crucially for application in the upcoming Bentayga – it has an oil circuit designed for off-road use. The revised package now produces 600 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Considerably more than the 567 hp and 516 lb-ft offered in the Bentley Continental GT W12, but less than the GT Speed, which we suspect will get an even more powerful version of this new engine. It's also more powerful than even the top version of Audi and Bentley's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, to make the W12 a more compelling option. Of course that's just as far as the Continental GT is concerned. The W12 has also found use in the Continental GTC and Flying Spur, as well as the Volkswagen Phaeton and Audi A8, and could find further applications under the Flying B emblem and elsewhere in the future. VW says that in the right application (say, in the production version of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept, for example), the new twelve-pot could deliver 0-62 times of under four seconds and a top speed in excess of 186 miles per hour. Volkswagen at the 36th International Vienna Motor Symposium Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser: "The car of the future will continue to fascinate people" - CO2 reduction, electromobility and digitalisation are the greatest challenges facing the automotive industry - The future of the internal combustion engine will be characterised by high rpm diesel and high-performance three-cylinder TSI engines - Laser roughening – innovative coating process in large-scale production - New 6.0 W12 TSI with 447 kW (608 PS) – performance and refinement - New generation of EU6 TDI engines for light-duty vehicles Dr.
Volkswagen Golf GTD Variant burns the oil long and fast
Wed, Mar 4 2015Volkswagen offers no shortage of variations on the Golf theme in America, from the base hatchback and the electric e-Golf to the sporty GTI and performance-oriented Golf R. But as many as are available Stateside, there are even more that never make it here. Like the one you see above. It's called the Volkswagen Golf GTD Variant. It's based on what we'd know as the new Golf SportWagen, which is just arriving in the US now, but this one packs the performance upgrades from the Golf GTD. Isn't that a typo? Don't we mean GTI? No, we don't: we mean GTD. Because in Europe, you can get what is essentially a GTI with a diesel, complete with all (or at least most) of the gear you'd find in the petrol hot hatch, only with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel inline-four packing 181 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. That may not sound like all that much as far as performance models go, but it's more than we'll be able to get from either the gasoline or diesel versions of the Golf SportWagen back in the States. And that makes us a little jealous, especially with room for the kids, the dog and all their gear in the back. World premiere of the new Golf GTD Variant - The perfect all-round package: sporty, economical, comfortable and spacious - Launch set for Geneva Motor Show Since 1982 Volkswagen's GTD logo has stood for Gran Turismo Diesel, with its promise of sporty yet economical motoring. Now for the first time, the GTD initials grace the Golf Variant, which like the Golf GTD, boasts the 184 PS (135 kW) TDI engine. The new Golf GTD Variant is set for its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, and is available to order as of now at a price of 31,975 euros. The Golf GTD Variant* is excellently placed to establish itself as an iconic long-distance cruiser. The 184 PS TDI engine takes the Golf GTD Variant to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds with the 2-litre unit delivering a maximum torque of 380 Nm – and yet this sporty Variant car boasts impressive fuel consumption figures of only 4.4 litres per 100 km. The car's sporty character is reflected in its exterior design: along with special GTD bumpers and the honeycomb radiator grille, the Golf GTD Variant also features smoked rear lights and flared sills. The look is completed by 17-inch Curitiba alloys, black roof rails and dual chrome tailpipes.
